퀸 of Hearts - Arthur's Inability to Rescue Guinevere - Stalemate

EPaws I agree, but I put it down to the fact that the series is called Merlin and he had to save the day and of course, we had to be introduced to DRAGOOOOOOOOOON! Secondarily, Athur tends to come apart when it becomes personal. When it is an outside force he is attacking, the boy is all over it. Hence his reactions to Morgana’s betrayal, Merlin had to pull up his socks on that one too. The same with his Mother. He gets mired in the moment. It is very human.

MISAforever Well, i loved how he was heart broken, and how he acted in the throne room. One of my favorite scene, no commment there. But in general, he didn't really do much. To be honest, he didn't do anything. As if he was so devistated he couldn't do anything. He didn't get a chance to do anything, it was a perfect timing for Dragooon to show up. And I get it. All of it. Still i wish he did something more. I litteraly cannot believe he wouldn't do anything to stop Uther from killing her.

chngeyuratitude I agree with Stacey, I think when people hear devastating news about the people they love they are unsure of what to do, sometimes you can't think straight, and Arthur would be caught between the love for his father and the woman he has fallen in love with, and I think if Dragoooon didn't turn up, I think he would have snapped out of it and he and Merlin would have thought of something

HumbleQueen My initial reaction was to feel disappointment in him when he was up in the bedroom seemingly helpless. But I do agree with you Stacey that they had to make sure it was Merlin who did the rescue and I also agree that he was feeling so devastated that it completely unhinged him. Knowing him, though, if Dragoon had not shown up, he would have found a way. As he said" I cannot watch her die, Merlin," and indeed he wouldn't have!

nsk nah i dont agree at all, it was just a terrible mistake from the writors who wanted to put merlin as a saviour forgetting the real purpose of this episode : ARWEN arthur is ready to risk his life to save Mordred , i dont believe he is able to stay in his chamber when the love of his love is ABOUT TO GET BURNED ALIVE IN FRONT OF HIM. this is bullshit especially since he WAS out of his chamber when he saw the dragoons seriously it was a mess the ending of that episode , the writors arent able to write a good damn episode from the start to finish

RosalynCabenson I think it was a good episode from beginning to the end. of course I wish arthur would have done more, or at least the writers had insert Arthur trying to rescue her and I'm sure he would have done. I totally agree with Nanna!

Melisey I agree with you Naima. The last part of the episode was bad writing. It was a mistake and ruined part of the episode for me. Because it didn't seem consistent.

kbrand5333 The big plot hole in the episode that always bugged me is that neither Arthur nor Gwen questioned WHO Dragoon was and WHY he did what he did. Especially Arthur, because he didn't know that Morgana was evil. He clearly knew he wasn't enchanted, but he never wondered what this mysterious old man's motives were? Really?

EPaws I do agree about really questioning who Dragoon was actually. That seemed perfectly natural and neither did it.

merlinforever i agree with naima the last part of the episode was bad wrting but it was good episode.

Bonne-Bell Overall, it was a good episode. But I do wish that Arthur had taken a more active role in trying to save Gwen. And Gwen and Arthur really should have questioned who Dragoon was. I also think that Arthur should have started to become a little suspicious of Morgana at this point. He knew that besides Merlin, Morgana knew of his feelings for Gwen. She was also the one who suggested that he spend time with Gwen only for her to show up with Uther while they were having a picnic. But then again, both Arthur and Uthur have a huge blindspot where Morgana is concerned so I guess that's to be expected.

Even when he was outside his chamber and first spotted Dragoon he was with guards...so what could he do...nothing, that's why magic had to be used. PS. Does anyone know when they will be back in France...I'm dying for more pics to hold me over until October.

EpicArwen Hi all! New here. Just a few thoughts on this. His inactivity didn't bother me nearly as much as a few other things. At first, he's a bit shell-shocked, and being kept under constant guard, I got his initial inability to do anything. And by the time he could do something, Merlin already was as Dragoon, which is what Arthur was then focused on because he could see that as a way to clear Gwen. What bothered me more though was what he had Merlin tell Gwen -- that he would convince his father of her innocence. Gwen's reaction was spot on. They've all been around long enough to know Uther wasn't going to bend so why Arthur would send THAT message was beyond me. That was a moment for a good "I'll die before I let anything happen to you" or "Don't give up. We will be together. I will find a way" or something to that affect. Not, "Sit and wait while I convince daddy." The other thing that bothered me was the end Arwen conversation. Not the conversation itself per se or their general interactions, but this was supposed to be the first time they've seen each other since death nearly separated them. The intensity level just wasn't there. Especially not after the intensity of the throne room. I would think a few more things would be on their mind in addition to what they discussed, such as was it worth the risk? Did they regret having met in secret? Who would have betrayed them? etc. As well as the overwhelming relief and reassuring each other. To me, those were more disappointing than Arthur's initial inactivity. Just my humble .02 cents! :)

san819 Hi Epic/Arwen I too think that the scene after she was freed was a bit low key...but for me I had issue with the topic. But the truth is the show is so not about the romance, it's never going to get enough screen time I fear. Hopefully if they scrap the filler eps. they can do the characters more justice this season. The Arthur talking to his dad thing is different for me though. From his perspective he loves is dad. He believes that once things calm he will be able to make Uther see reason...of course everyone else knows better. The overly dramatic I die for you etc. would have distressed Gwen more...to her Camelot and it's people living under a just King is more important to her that her life...she has chastised him before for risking his life for her. So that I was totally ok with.
