After months and months and a few more months of waiting, 5SOS have finally gone and released sophomore album

and let\'s just say that it\'s worth every single second you spent wishing it was inside your earholes already.

Just over a year on from releasing the debut self-titled record, 5 Seconds of Summer really couldn\'t have come further. From circling the globe about forty five times and winning a whole pile of awards on their way, to the epic 69 stop Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour and starting a whole social movement in the form of The New Broken Scene, it\'s pretty amazing that they\'ve even had the time spare to write and record album number two.

But they\'ve done just that and as we\'re sure you\'ve already listened about 43 times, it\'s time to have a bit of a chat about what we make of the album.

Like, how does it pan out? Which songs are catchier than an STI in Magaluf and which tracks are we all going to be itching to see them do live? Time to find out with a little track-by-track analysis, because yolo and all that.

​This one\'s been floating about for a while but it\'s a killer opening to the album. A big uppy track full of guitars that explodes into a chorus of \'WOAH-OHS\'.

Listen to it when: You\'re in the mood to party with your pals and you all want to shout along to something and jump off the sofa while pretending you\'re playing Wembley.

A sun-drenched feel-good track that will have even the grumpiest of dads swaying along when you put it on full blast in the car. Reminds us a bit of Weezer\'s \'Islands In The Sea\'.

We\'re the kings and queens of the new broken scene / but we\'re alright though. 

Listen to it when: You need reminding that you\'re awesome, because you are.

This dude is the main character on the cover of our album. I love how much this image provokes people to think. Everyone has been broke at some point in their life, but money isn\'t the be all and end all. Wealth isn\'t the source of life contentment. This is \'Hey Everybody!\' 3 days till SGFG

In 10 years time we feel like this is 100% still going to be the iconic track for anyone who\'s ever felt a bit like life is hopeless or they don\'t really fit in. It\'s big, anthemic and makes you feel like you can do anything.

Hey everybody, we don\'t have to live this way / We can all get some, yeah, we can all get paid

. \'Cos it says everything that needs to be said in one handy line

Listen to it when: You need some motivation. This track is insanely catchy and will take you from laying on the floor to fist pumping around the room in about five seconds flat.

Permanent Vacation artwork, I love this song and the message it has. We played it on tour and it was sick like Hopefully people out there can relate to this, enjoy ! x

This was the first tease we got of anything from album numero deux and it\'s a bloody great representation of the feeling of the whole record. It\'s got a hint of 00s Greenday in both sound and lyrics. 

Congratulations, your imitations / are taking over the radio stations / corporations, calculations / we\'re the voice of the new generation.

Listen to it when:  All of the time but particularly when you\'re feeling pissed off or sticking it to \'the man\', whoever \'the man\' might be. It\'ll sort your head right out.

This is the artwork for jet black heart. I really like this character from the NBS as the lyrics to this song mean a lot to me and I think I\'m a lot like this guy. can\'t wait to show u guys more of the NBS. 4 DAYS TO SGFG.

Potentially one of our absolute favourites on the record, this is when the mood shifts to something a bit slower and more introspective. It\'s a big Michael moment and has a really strong message about dealing with the crap in your life.

This blood in my veins / is made up of mistakes / let\'s forget who we are / and dive into the dark.

Proof that punk can nail what it feels like to be in love better than any drippy ballad ever will. 

Listen to it when: You\'re feeling low and a bit like people don\'t get you because even if they don\'t, this song gets you.

From what we can tell this one is either about heartbreak or the feelings the rest of the band experienced when Luke decided to shave his beard off. While that\'s upsetting to be reminded of, this track is still great because it really showcases Calum, Luke and Michael\'s voices individually.

The words you speak, surrounding me / This is broken love in the first degree / The air you breathe is haunting me / Maybe I\'ll change your mind

Listen to it when: When you\'re Netflix and chilling, but minus the Netflix bit. AHEM.

The build into this track takes you into one of the poppier offerings on the album and it sounds unlike anything else we\'ve ever heard from 5SOS. It\'s got a slightly synthy / Panic! At The Disc sorta sound and we cannot wait to see it live - particularly for Ashton\'s mad drumming moment in the pre-chorus.

Best line: Not a line but the bit where someone retches, \'cos anyone who can make a sick noise sound that awesome is someone we wanna be friends with.

Listen to it when: You\'re getting ready to go out.

The first day we flew into LA we wrote this song. It\'s called \'Waste The Night\' I can\'t wait to play it live. 1 Day...

Look we\'re just going to say it: this needs to be a single. Calum on the chorus and Luke on the verse? It\'s a match made in musical heaven. 

 I don\'t wanna say goodbye to another night / and watch you walk away / I don\'t wanna let it burn in the city lights / and make the same mistakes.

Listen to it when: You\'re basking in the sun. DAMN YOU WINTER, for spoiling our fun.

Besides from the fact that they\'ve spelt vapour wrong, this is a very good song.

I want to feel your love like the weather / all over me, all over me.

Listen to it when: You\'re having a smoochy slow dance. Probably by yourself in your bedroom, but still enjoyable.

This is a sassy one, innit? Turns out it\'s about being jilted by your girlfriend/boyfriend and not about a volleyball called Wilson either, which is cool. 

Listen to it when: When you\'re girlfriend or boyfriend is being a dick / the person you\'re into has read your whatsapp but hasn\'t replied, the douchebag.

Q. Has there ever been a better name for a song? A. No, there has not. This one has some killer Luke Robert Hemmings vocals and a whole load of echo that adds to the drama of the track. Also a bit of a Greenday feel, which we likey a lot.

Listen to it when: It\'s the end of the night and you\'re doing a sway on the bus home with your best mate.

The acoustic build on this track really shows off the depth of the lyrics. It\'s sort of like the musical equivalent of the broken heart emoji and it\'s an amazing but kinda painful listen.

Your painted memories that washed out all the seas / I\'m stuck in between a nightmare and lost dreams.

Listen to it when: You need to feel all your feelings - it\'s a weeper.

INVISIBLE - this song means a lot to me it\'s been incredible representing the songs through art across the world, I hope you find a way to relate to some of them, sounds good feels good - 4 DAYS AWAY - X

After that emotional little interlude, there\'s nothing better to bring you right back up than a listen to \'Fly Away\'. It\'s got that classic album one sorta sound and the chorus will make your heart do a proud little swell at how far they\'ve come.

I want a lit bit of California / with a little bit of London sky/ I wanna take my heart to the end of the world / and fly away tonight

Listen to it when: you\'ve just listened to \'Broken Home\'.

Calum Hood. That is all that needs to be said about this song (although we will add that it\'s definitely one of the stand out tracks and a guaranteed fan favourite of the future).

I was already missing before the night I left / just me and my shadow and all of my regrets

Listen to it when: You\'re feeling reflective and feel like you need a bit of a deep and meaningful moment.

AIRPLANES - this song is super special to me and I think you guys will really like this song. +his wings are cool as shit. 3 days to SGFG

Michael is on FIRE in this track. You can just imagine them dreaming up the lyrics soaring through the air

Airplanes cut through the clouds / like angels can fly, we\'ll never die.

Proof that they are, in fact, immortal. Suck on that Harry Potter and your claims of being The Chosen One. 

Listen to it when: You\'re in bed at the end of the night. It\'s a dreamy, reflective one. 

SANFRANCISCO - where love was made ❤️ I love the lyrics in this song, I feel it big time and hopefully you do as well, 3 DAYS!

Acoustics guitars ftw on this simple but lyrically rich little banger of a track. 

Remember that weekend when we got out of town? / Drove into infinity, held you \'til you fell asleep.

 JEEZ LUKE, we told you not to tell anyone about that magical weekend we had together that time. Ahem. 

Listen to it when: You\'re driving in the car with the windows all wound down / you\'re in some sort of date montage in a movie.

4 days until SGFG. This is my favourite character and song. IVe never connected to a song more than this one in particular. This is \'OUTERSPACE\'

WHAT an ending. After a journey of emotions, we find ourself with the kind of track (well, two tracks) that is best imagined as that jubilant feeling you get as the credits roll on your new favourite movie. Wowzer.

The darkest night never felt so bright with you by my side.

Listen to it when: You\'ve listened to the whole album. It really is the cherry on the cake of your life.

Final thoughts: the album is f***ing incredible. Sorry for swearing, but it is what it is. Go buy it and love it like a musical child that most certainly was not produced in your womb. Promise you it\'s worth it.
