Is skipping around a lot annoying?

I'm 글쓰기 a story, and I need the story to start a few months before it picks up, because the main character is sick, but the symptoms slowly start to appear over the course of a few months. But I don't have much to fill in the spaces between.
Do 당신 think it's too annoying when authors skip lots of time? I was thinking about skipping weeks at a time, filling in the reader with what was going on with the main character, but I feel like I skip too much.
