May 21, 2013—Two days before a tornado—with winds clocked at over 200 miles per hour—tore through suburban Oklahoma City on May 20, National Geographic explorer and storm researcher Tim Samaras captured this video of a tornado forming in south-central Kansas. EDITOR\'S NOTE: Tragically, just 10 days after this video was recorded, Tim Samaras died in an Oklahoma tornado, along with his son Paul, who shot this video, and Carl Young, a frequent partner of Tim\'s.
