I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Ike Barinholtz discusses ‘Suicide Squad’ mystery character and humor |
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Ike Barinholtz is sworn to secrecy on which character he is playing in “Suicide Squad,” but he can at least say he’s not playing a good guy.
“I can tell you my character in that movie is someone you would not want at your house for dinner. He’s a very troubled human being,” “The Mindy Project” star tells Zap2it with a laugh at the 2015 summer TV press tour.
Though the character Barinholtz is playing is still a mystery, he expects that news will be revealed “by the time the next trailer comes out.”

The first trailer for “Suicide Squad” was as ultra-serious as previous Warner Bros. DC movies “Man of Steel” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but naturally-funny Barinholtz says there was some room for comedy in the making of the film.
“The trailer is very serious, but [director] David Ayer is a psychopath. As as much as he loves the dark and exploring the disturbed side of society, it’s not like you’re telling jokes, but if you can just kind of in the moment try to play things a little honestly and react to these giant, huge superhero things that are happening, funny stuff can kind of happen and there can be laughs from it,” Barinholtz explains.
“With that said, who knows; when the cut the movie it might be very serious. But Will Smith is a very funny guy, Jai Courtney is actually a very funny guy, Margot Robbie is actually funny, so I think there is going to be some moments in that that actually make people laugh.”

Barinholtz has a history with DC property, and famous “Suicide Squad” comics writer John Ostrander is even friends with his mother Peggy Barinholtz.
“I don’t want to say I’m a comic nerd, but I definitely read comics as a kid,” he says. “I loved the ‘Dirty Dozen,’ and [‘Suicide Squad’ is] not too far off from that. I always thought it was a great story. It’s one of those too when you’re 6 you’re like, ‘Oh, this is going to be a movie one day.\'”
When Ayer cast Barinholtz in “Suicide Squad,” his “Mindy Project” costar/boss Mindy Kaling had exactly the type of reaction fans would expect from her. “Mindy instantly was like, ‘Oh my god, Jai Courtney’s so hot.’ That was her take,” Barinholtz recalls.
“Mindy” executive producer Matt Warburton also geeked out, but as a “comics fan.” “They all asked questions and I couldn’t tell them anything,” Barinholtz says. “We’ll all get drunk and watch it opening night.”

On the flip side, his fellow “Suicide Squad” cast members were fans of “The Mindy Project” too. ”
“Cara Delevigne is a pretty big fan of the show. It’s all like machismo guys on that set, but after a few weeks you’ll get someone like Jai Courtney [who admits they’re a fan]. It does slowly come out that they have seen the show,” Barinholtz says. “Joel [Kinnaman] was more of an ‘Eastbound & Down’ fan. They were all wonderful.”
“Suicide Squad” hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
