vet Sherry Stringfield is joining CBS’ just-launched spinoff as the longtime wife of Gary Sinise’s Unit Chief Jack Garrett, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Karen is described as a supportive wife and dedicated mother to the couple’s five children. Their oldest kid, Ryan, is a young recruit for the FBI, and their middle daughter, Josie, is heading into her freshman year at USC (Fight On!).

Stringfield — whose history with CBS includes guest stints on

 snags a renewal, will likely recur in Season 2 (and beyond).

 spinoff got off to a solid-ish debut last week, drawing 8.6 million viewers and a 1.6 demo rating (improving on 

 Season 1 average of 7.1 mil/1.3); TVLine readers gave the premiere an average grade of “B-.”

Why do you say that? I think it is slow starting but will pick up speed.

I just hope that the success of Beyond Borders will not kill the chances for Code Black’s return. Both are shows with a great deal of potential, but Code Black is my favorite of the new CBS shows.

I’m really enjoying Beyond Borders. So much better than the previous CM spin-off. The characters are interesting, the plots have been pretty good, and I’m really hoping for a renewal.

Sherry Stringfield is the female Mandy Patinkin. She was in the original cast of NYPD Blue, but walked out after one season. She walked out on ER after three seasons. Although several years later, she did come back to ER.

Love love love her!!! She will make me watch!
