@zanhar1 I must admit I'm rather surprised to hear it. So, how come you keep uploading Japanese and Russian music videos then?! I thought you of all people would be fluent in all those languages, if not more than just those 2 languages. : O

Let's see. Apart from my native English, of course, I can speak & understand a lot of other languages, which comes handy being a waiter. The more the merrier! I can speak German even from school6. That's why I live in Hamburg, Germany, now, together with my husband, Seán. Both of us also speak Irish Gaelic, his native tongue. Yes, he's Irish, I'm English, so what? Get over it! I can also speak French, Russian, some Spanish & in a way, thanks to Google Translate, I can even communicate with my Greek friends, not just here, on Fanpop, but also irl as well. That's 6 languages so far, but I'm always trying to learn more. Even learned some Hebrew using Google Translate. Can I say 7? Anyway, it's good for business & what's good for business is also good for me & for my budget. That's how waiters who can speak more languages get their tips, people like me. With so many tourists , it comes handy even here in a foreign country, in Germany. Yes, there are tourists who come to see Hamburg, gay tourists to be exact.Yes, I'm gay, but you already know that. I used to work as a waiter at a reastaurant in both Belfast & Dublin once. I work at a Hamburg gay night club now, working night shifts. People will respect you & appreciate you more if you can speak & understand their own language, not just tourists, but also the locals. Of course, the same applies to Fanpop. Or at least it should. Some people like me for speaking in their native tongue, other people don't. Some people just ignore me, as usual. That's why I'm not on Fanpop so often these days. That & a fact that I work night shifts, so I have to sleep most of the next day. I barely even see my own husband now, except on holidays. We only see each other each afternoon. If I have to chose between (making love with) my husband & posting to social networks like Fanpop, what, or even better, whom do you think I should chose? Fanpop? Think again! Love is all we need. Well, freedom, peace, love & happiness. We all speak the universal language of love. Agreed?

I can also understand Serbian, but then, our 2 languages are almost identical that most people in Croatia don't even consider it a foreign language. We don't need any translation when it comes to Serbian, even on TV. Although there was a war between our 2 countries once (they attacked us, not the other way around!), we understand each other just fine. A word perfectly would best describe it. All the Croats and Serbs speak almost the same language. Once, it was called a single language, but not anymore. Croatia and Serbia are friends and neighbors now. Maybe I shoud pick 6 instead.

@Zagi87 If Croatian and Serbian are so much alike, does that mean I can speak and understand also the Serbian? That would be 6 languages then.

I feel Italian myself, but also a Slovenian at the same time. I live in Trieste, Italy. It is a city with a mixed population: one half is Italian and the other half is Slovenian. Just take a look at my full name on my profile page. You'll see what I mean. We always used to speak both Italian and Slovenian in my family. I'm teaching my husband Slovenian now. My brothers, my parents, and me, we all speak both languages fluently. I'm a married man now. My husband, Guido, is a genuine Italian, but I come from a mixed family. My dad is an Italian, my mom is a Slovenian. My grandmother on my mother's side is from Croatia, near Zagreb, where my friend Dominik or Zagi87 lives, so, I can speak to him in his native Croatian on this site.

Serbian, Russian, German and English. That's 4. But, if you count Croatian which is very similar to Serbian, my native tongue, then I would say 5.

We speak Farsi in Iran. I can also speak and understand some Arabic, just enough to pray to Allah, or to recite from a Noble Quran, and some Turkish, enough to read some comics that my friend is smuggling from Turkey, and English obviously. Some say I'm fluid in English, but that's for you to decide. I like watching everything made in Bollywood, but Hindi is another story. I wish I could learn Hindi to enjoy all the latest coming from Bollywood. Bollywood is much closer to our Iranian culture and our Islamic mentality than Hollywood, but Hindi is still an obstacle. Although it is illegal to own a satellite dish in my country, I used to have a satellite dish once to watch some TV channels on Astra, before the members of Basij, or the Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, came in and demolish it. Many TV channels on Astra are in German, not in English, so I learn some German, just by watching a satellite television. Today, owning a satellite dish can get you arrested. Most young Iranians, much like me, are on VPN, to have the Internet access, because almost all Western social media is being blocked by our government. That's the world of constant fear, terror and censorship that rule my country since the Islamists took over the country. I can't even gain access to Fanpop when on local network, so, I have to be creative, much like millions of young people of my generation who have enough. We just want the freedom of expression and a freedom of speach. In short, we want democracy back to Iran.

Did I mention that we use a Persian alphabet in Iran, which is derived from Arabic, and much like Arabic, it's also writen in cursive, from right to left? To learn any Western language, one must first learn how to write in Roman script, using Roman alphabet and writing from left to right and that's not so easy as you all might think. That's the ultimate challenge for people like me who use the Arabic script instead. Some people say we should turn to Roman script, just like Turkey, or Indonesia, but that's not gonna happen until we live in a free country at last. Iran today is a fundamentalist Islamic state, which is a theocracy instead of a secular democracy.

Fluently? Just English.

Hold a basic convo or understand words/ catch words and phrases in speech to understand the gist of the conversation would be Dutch, Maori, German and Korean. But I'm not fluent in those.

I'm 'fluent' in only English, but I know enough about German and Latin to be able to read and translate basic sentences in both. I can also vaguely write in Latin too, though not with German.

I uploaded videos in different languages because I can enjoy them despite not understanding them. I like the melodies, beats, and/or vocals and that is enough for me. Music is one of the few things that I think can apply to everyone regardless of language barriers. If I want to know the lyrics I'll google a translation.

Also I'm assuming g that this poll means how many can you speak fluently. I know bits and pieces of Spanish, Russian, Dutch, and Japanese but not enough to say that I spake them. I'm trying to teach myself Dutch because I want to go to the Netherlands. And I've picked up on some Russian and Japanese because of The songs. That said I'm also trying to teach myself Russian but it is tricky because I dont have the time between fics and irl stuff. But I do have the basics of Russian and Dutch down; I can read certain words and pick out certain words in songs.

TBH it majorly pisses me off that I didn't have the opportunity to learn a new language from a young age; I wish public schools would require it but they don't have the foresight.
