@lakota_spirit: Christopher Eccleston is a great actor and from the interview I have seen a great guy. He didn't left because he thought he could do better. He gave his reason on an interview to Radio Times:

"I didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in. I wasn't comfortable. I thought 'If I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong.' And I think it's more important to be your own man than be successful, so I left."

And for your information, since Doctor Who, he played on Heroes, a few movies and he is currently playing in The Shadow Line which is quite good. And he is amazing in it.
