New Danganronpa V3 and Danganronpa 3 anime debut at series press conference
New anime series to finish the Hope\'s Peak Academy story.
‘s theme is “psycho cool.” A completely new chapter in the series, it is set in the “Gifted Inmates Academy.” Like games in the series before it, it will consist of exploration parts and Class Trials. During exploration parts, you’ll talk with various characters. And during Class Trials, you’ll use your own “lies” to defeat opponents.
Watch the trailer below. View some screenshots at the gallery.
. It will be the final chapter of the “Hope’s Peak Academy” series. According to
series creator Kazutaka Kodaka, it’ll feature content that can only be expressed through anime.

i hope it’s as wacky as concrete revolutio haha
“Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope” would be the perfect title for the game instead of “New Danganronpa V3”
Maybe but seeing as the Hope’s Peak story is ending before, it may not even be relevant to that game anymore.
Ending that story arc with an anime? Not sure if I’m into that.
Wow did not expect the true sequel to be released as an anime. Hopefully its a worthy conclusion.
I can see why they decided for an anime conclusion to the story. Am excited. At least we won’t have to wait for the anime as long as we have for the game.
I’m still excited for both the anime and the game!! :)
“According to Danganronpa series creator Kazutaka Kodaka, it’ll feature content that can only be expressed through anime.”
Well, it’s that or somehow come up with contrived circumstances to have everyone kill each other AGAIN.
There’s no need for the killing game, they could have done a regular visual novel, or something like Zero Escape. Heck, they could even try with another genre.
Kodaka told us during AX that he was going to try something new for 3 and that it might make us hesitate, but that we should give it a chance. Now I see why he said that.
I do feel bad for fans of the game who aren’t into anime, and I’m definitely trying to tussle how I feel about this. But at the same time, given either this or the option of having more DR games in the same continuity, continually having conclusive but open-ended endings with an unclear point of end, I’d take this any day.
There’s a lot more creativity and future options for the franchise this way.
“it’ll feature content that can only be expressed through anime.”
You just want those anime fans yens SpikeChunsoft and I cant blame you, but dont lie to me please, Im not stupid.
Not necessarily. I mean they could do it in a game but seeing as it looks like it’s going to be focusing on DR2’s conclusion, it would be a waste.
What would be a waste? Though thinking about it a little more, isnt it fitting? Anime fans and the anime industry (generalization incoming but backed up by sales charts) is known for being stagnated and only consuming the same thing over and over, so they get more of the same while a new thing has to be made in game form.
It would be a waste because there would be no logical reason how the ending of DR2 would result in those characters ending up in a killing game with Monokuma again. The only thing left unanswered in that entire story is “what happened to those students”.
How can he incorporate reacurring characters that are all buddy buddy now into a mutual game of killing? Only other way I could see it work, would be as a pure VN, without the courtroom gameplay.
Not so sure about the “buddy buddy” since Makoto has handcuffs XD
Is also true that I still have to play the second game and maybe I’m missing something(but I already know how it ended… stupid spoilers everywhere XD)
not sure how i feel about the anime since the first one’s was terribly made, and since when did Danganronpa become liar game? and what’s genos doing there
This one has the potential of being better since it isn’t going to be based off a game script.
I don’t even remember watching the first anime (i did) so I think that can explain how i feel about this.
So what happened to making an anime adaptation of Danganronpa 2?
Also I like the look of the new girl in the picture very pretty gotta love those twin tails
They’re not making one, at least as far as this looks. They’ll more likely do a recap of what happened in DR 2 during this anime.
There’s really no way for them to adapt the second game well unless it were a 2-cour, and I doubt they’d want to make it after the mediocre success of the first one. Better for them to make an original anime; that’ll get them more attention and will have more room for better-paced writing than adaptation.
OK, wait a minute: Is the anime based on the upcoming 3rd game, just like the 1st game got an anime adaption of it? Cause i’m getting confused here.
It’s a prequel showing what happened after DR2
There is no Danganronpa 3 game. This anime is Danganronpa 3.
Unexpected but it does make sense considering how ridiculous it would have been for them to end up in another killing game. Although a Standard Visual Novel would have been nice.
Visual novel would even be difficult. Seems like they want the Hope Peak’s story to have one conclusion instead of leaving it up to player’s choice.
I would’ve loved if they had animated the second game first. I have no way of playing it and now I’ll have no idea what’s going on in the new anime.
I’m pretty sure they’ll try and summarize what happened in the 2nd game for those who have only watched the anime. Sucks because the twists and drama in the 2nd game was great.
They did it again. I can feel all that despair just as they wanted. Damn bastards!
I don’t mind having the conclusion in the anime, but it will be unfortunate for game fans who don’t watch anime. Unless they have some kind of special edition that includes a dvd of the anime with the game.
Seems like the game might be further along than the anime though.
Yeah! I don’t watch animes, but I want to see how that story ends.
Welp, I guess now will be a good time to start?
Unless there’s conspicuously no killing in a Danganronpa game for once (unlikely), it seems we’ve already turned off the three laws of robotics.
I dunno, RoboNaegi just seems like a bad guy. Plot Twist, we play the mastermind this time and our intent is to get people killed at the class trial.
Literally the only reason you won’t have the laws turned on in a robot is to be bad, so probably.
Which is why this could be a problem. For everyone else involved that is.
Does anyone else think that that’s Komaeda talking to Naegi at the end of the anime trailer?
I don’t like it. I understand why they did it (because PS4 owners never played D1/D2) but again… I don’t like it. Because as a Vita owner I can just not care about small details like that.
Your Despair, its delicious but what don’t you like? not really talking about it. That the 3rd (technically 4th) game doesn’t have anything to do with the past games because being on Ps4 as well? nah that’s really a big reason,
Didn’t stop 999 and Last Virtue, its doing this for the creators reason which isn’t all that bad but i understand wanting to know the ending part of the series in a game than an anime.
I don’t really think it has that much to do with the ps4. That’s mainly something western devs worry about. They probably didn’t know how to make a decent game in that format that completes the story.
I’m the only one who really likes the the design of the new Naegi ? I think it’s quite cool.
Now seriously though, I think it’s a good idea. That thing needs a conclusion or something close to it, and they can’t keep the old formula and advance at this point. They probably have a lot to tell but not a lot to make you play. They would need to do something weird like Danganronpa Another to make it into a game, probably, and I don’t know how fans would have reacted to that. If they feel an anime is the best way, let’s just hope they can at least make something decent and not too cheap.
This. I figure if they tried to make the conclusion into a game it would be nothing but a giant free-time event game
Well fuck you all, I’M hype. God, last place I expected everyone to be a bunch of negative nancies.
An anime to close Hope Peak story and V3 as a complete new beast? I approved this despair…uh i mean news :3
Megaman protagonist lol the most coolest protagonist design in danganronpa ever xD
1:33 this silhouettes. Very curious about this new characters.
I can count 16, though I suppose it’s easy to miss the really short one that’s like half the height of everyone else.
New Danganronpa V3 looks so awesome and just like what I wanted from it, I can’t wait to see more characters and info about it.
Normally I would be a bit skeptic when it comes to lines like “it’ll feature content that can only be expressed through anime”, but hey, this is Kodaka we’re talking about. I’m sure he is Uchikoshi’s drinking buddy for a reason.
– New Vita/PS4 game will in actuality have nothing to do with the Hopes Peak series [no not like how DR2 ended] and is pretty much a reboot in a sense
– Anime is what is gonna wrap up the Hopes Peak saga rather then another game.
Funny how DR2 never got an anime adaption, but they are doing one that takes place after that game.
I wouldn’t count on the reboot thing. I’m sure as hell that both the old and new academy will be connected.
the best looking megaman X / rockmanX i like his design so much including its upgrade.. good game kinda annoying that died so many times :(
agreed ( I’m still shocked we have A robot for an MC for this Danganronpa game XD)
yeah i wonder what will be the story behind it :D but i felt this 3rd not kinda reboot might be a same “badgirl” that gonna be new villain to continue her senpai legacy :P
Also, interesting choice to have Monomi and Shirokuma returning (or at least bears that look like that)
LOL why are People so Up in Arms this franchise has always been Known to try new things with this franchise ( I like what I hear so far anyways so whats the big deal ?)
Maybe because they don’t share your preferences. Imagine that. It’s unorthodox to say the least which is a fair reaction. It doesn’t help that the first DR anime was mediocre at best and having the conclusion be exclusive on anime wasn’t exactly what people asked for.
that because was adapting the game ( this anime will be its own thing ) and for all we know Kodaka Probably Thought that the ending he had in mind was to short for a game so an anime was the only way to go ( but We get Robo Neagi as Mc so that earns points heck He might have a cool backstory on why he is a robot )
Last chapter original theme song, next chapter jazzy original theme song, old setting, new setting, old guys, new guys, same story, different story, etc. I give it a seal of approval.
I’m so super duper hyped for this, can’t resist biting someone.
Pretty much my current state xD I can spend longer enough with my PS3 because of SO5 delayed, but even i buy PS4 i still going to play PS3 sometimes :P (now i am waiting for my digimon story cyber sleuth vita copy)
Yep, especially with the games I’ve bought 4 days ago, my backlog is growing more than ever. I may need a PS4 in the future for hope, but that won’t stop me from playing the systems I own ;D. I have to finish up couple of games.
How many games you bought 4 days ago? I also plan to get tales of vesperia jp for PS3, maybe jp translation from sites will help me understand the story a bit lol
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Diablo III: Ultimate Edition.
I go into Ultimax from time to time just to pass the challenges because how tough it is to time the commands :(. Diablo III, on the other hand, I play that in a sibling 4 player co-op that I’ll surely enjoy when my brother has day off.
It’s settled then girl. We cool with that. :P
Fucking hyped. Atleast they won’t leave behind the original cast and will give them a proper conclusion in one way or the other.
Wait people are actually upset over this…? Shit i’m excited for both and I’ve only just been introduced to this series a month ago. Can’t wait to see if they will do this new anime right.
apparently W’re very angry about this :P ( we have a Robot Mc people that alone should make your day )
Maybe it’s because; A) The last time they did an anime for the series, it was terrible so people are worried
B) The continuation for the story arc currently at is made into an anime instead, which therefore brings us back to A
Because the main format was a game. They also skipped the Danganronpa 2 too and for me its a dissapointment since the original anime sucked. I love to play the videogames for the ammount of text and details, also because you have the freedom to interact with each character at your own will while thinking how to resolve the misteries.
So how do i get to know what happened in two if i want to watch the anime?
“Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy” is a sequel anime meant to wrap up the current plot of the games released thus far (as the plot has gotten to the point where it wouldn’t work well wrapping it up with a main-series game). It is not an adaptation of any game whatsoever. (They were blatantly trolling for an adaptation of the second game, but it’s beside the point.) It’s an original story, penned by Kodaka (not a spin-off, an actual series entry), that’s simply – in an odd shift in media – ending the games’ current plotline, allowing the new games to go in a different direction.
They might cover it briefly in the new anime, but it’s probably better off if you play the second game to see the events upfront (or watch a playthrough of it, if you can’t).
Also, to the commenter below me: don’t think I didn’t notice you copying and pasting my breakdown from ANN. :P
one thing is for sure ( Funimation is going to get their dirty hands on it again you can count on that for the anime )
I do want to play those games, but i dont know when i have the time and i want to watch the anime when its out.
for now almost no time. I usually can only play on the go, so pokemon is the game i need to finish first.
Play the original games on PS Vita, they’re WAY better
I dont know when i have the time to play..
I do own a vita, so thats not the problems. I like to watch my animes 1 episode per week and i dont know when i will play those games.
If you can watch 1 ep of anime per week, I’m certain you can find a lets play and watch like one episode of it per week. There’s many people who’ve already played the games and uploaded their lets plays onto youtube.
Albeit the game is a lot longer, but it’s not like you have to binge watch everything at once; just watch when you have time – or play when you have time, since playing it yourself would probably be better. Particularly since it’s on PSVita, which is something you can easily pick up when you have a spare 20 minutes or so.
i do want to play the vita game, i just dont know if i will find the time until the anime will air :/
I know where you’re coming from, college is kicking my ass and I rarely have time to enjoy any of my hobbies anymore. ;__;
It’s not like you’d need to see the anime upon it immediately airing, though, right? Next time you’re on a holiday (I’m assuming you’re in education or somethin, sorry if I’m wrong!) you could always binge the game and then catch up on the anime if it’s already started airing by then. It isn’t starting until sometime in 2016, do you not have like a christmas break or something? :’0
i have, but i do like the 1 episode per week watch style. I can find time for the anime somehow, but to find time for the game is harder, especially if i give some games priority to :/
i more prefer they doing it own anime isn’t using the story from the video game. (you know the first one…)
Well, if they’re gonna go that route the anime better turnout damn good.
It sucks, because I like to marathon anime though and if I do for this I’ll have to worry about getting spoiled.
I played all the games. I mean getting spoiled about whatever takes place in the anime if I lag behind.
I just like binging on things rather than watching one episode a week, but people love trying to ruin this series for some reason.
Ignore YT, tumblr, anywhere with anime really. XD
I’ll just try to live like Komaru for awhile, I guess.
Less checking on anime site that keep discussing danganronpa anime
To anime people, watch a playthrough or buy DR2 before watching DR3. Just throwing that out there
Playing/watching Ultra Despair Girls is also highly recommended.
Definitely, since it’s supposed to be a conclusion to the story that those things are a part of. I imagine you’d be a bit lost on certain aspects if you haven’t seen SDR2 and UDG, because it’ll more than likely reference events that happened in them, or at least characters that were in them.
Wow so the despair theme is over. I would have never expected that.
Psycho cool theme seem like its going to be even more insane. I can’t wait!
Also is that Yasuhiro Hagakure? He looks way better than the others. I almost didn’t even recognize him.
The first anime was kind of…meh. Since this one will be an original production, we can hope it won’t be rushed.
Danganronpa 2 works best as a game though, They use tricks that could only be truly accomplished in a game. Hopefully this anime will follow the trend.
Not going to lie…I am kinda disappointed that the ending of Hope’s Peak Academy is going to only be an anime, while the past 3 entries have been games. The first anime they did was mediocre at best, so this does not raise my confidence in the project either.
UDG has shown that a non traditional Danganronpa game will sell, so there really is no excuse to not make this a game too. All that is going to happen is newbie anime-exclusive fans will be lost without knowing the events of DR2, while veterans of the series will be forced to see the anime to get any kind of closure with these characters we have been with for 3 games.
I just hope that DR3 will be good, as right now it looks promising.
This is an original production, so it doesn’t have to adapt anything. It won’t be rushed. That was the problem with the first anime, and that’s likely the reason we won’t receive an anime for SDR2: they don’t want a rushed adaptation that will water down the fun of that story.
DR games have long stories that can only be told through longer forms of storytelling, like games, novels, or manga, but animation is much faster. However, animation works for a faster story, and especially for a faster DR story (the games’ cutscenes and still art drawings are the only way to really propel a story forward, but imagine if we got all of that continuously?). I think this is a good idea, as now they can actually make the game they want (an all-new mystery set in the DR universe, but without having to tie-up lose ends).
Not a killing game more likely, and unless someone is dying not a 3rd person action game like UDG. So the only option would have been visual novel, but that would have to require different endings and player choice which they don’t want because they want it to be one cohesive story.
As much as people liked UDG I don’t think they would bite on another game without the class trial format.
Honestly, I’m happy they decided to do things this way. I get why they’ve made these decisions regarding how to finish the current plot line, and it doesn’t mean to say that there won’t still be spin-off material regarding it. I’m satisfied and glad that they’re not going to drag it out for too long. Also, the whole inmate thing? Psycho cool? Sounds great. Consider me signed up already. Can’t wait for more info.
thumps up if anyone Thinks FUnimation will milk the hell out the New Danganronpa anime ( while trying to promote the game in the wast when it gets localized )
Fucking hyyyyyyyyyype. Loved the first game, but I’m only at the first case in the second. I need to get on that shit.
Second game trumps the first in nearly every way possible. The first trial itself blew me away. Enjoy!
yeah. stay away from the comments section then. lol
Remember that you could slash words in the previous game lol
I’m feeling a mixture of dispair and disappointment. I can’t believe they are going to go this route. Looks like Phoenix Wright can go back to being my favorite series.
Am i like the only one who isn’t hyped for the new protagonist but is hyped for the anime and the game? I mean i’ve got a bad feeling about him, i guess i have to wait and see…
I’m interested by Robo Naegi and why he’s like that but I don’t think he’ll be for the hope.
lol, of all characters , that Kazuichi Soda is the one that gets a lead role is a little hilarious xD , didn´t know he was that popular
me to, i would have thought Gundham Tanaka or Nekomaru would have been the most popular given they were the best characters.
True. Since they’ve already done similar spin-off manga with different leads like Nagito & Chiaki, I guess Kazuichi is their next choice. I can’t remember the popularity poll, but I don’t think he ranked too badly in Japan.
I have Questions. Warning there might be spoilers
1.I want to see it so where can I watch this anime. Will it be on crunchyroll?
2.Will the anime tie up all loose ends from the games?
3.Will Monaca Towa and the Warrior of Hope be in it? That evil child of hell is still out there.
1.Will this game take place in the same universe as the other games?
2.Why is there a silhouette that look like a child?
1. The anime is gonna take place after the events of DR2, so you can expect many things, characters etc, from DR1,DR2 and AE.
2. The V3 game will feature new characters, new setting and new concept (psycho cool). Completely new and unrelated to the first games/upcoming DR3 anime, although many believe (myself included) that there will be connections from the new setting to the old one.
!. Where will I able to watch the anime? I live in the USA. Will it be on Cruchyroll?
2.Do you think they will turn it into a game for the PSP Vita sometime? There are animes that have video games.
3.What kind of connection do you think it will have?
4.Why is there a silhouette that look like a child?
2. I don’t think so. Kodaka said that “it’ll feature content that can only be expressed through anime.”
3. I believe that V3’s gonna be in the future, beyond the DR3 anime, so there’s gotta be something to connect them.
i really hope this anime isn’t a mess since its going to be completing the story of 3 other games…
Sounds fantastic. Love how they keep trucking on with new content. If they learned their lesson to not hurry plot points like in the first anime season, it could turn out great. Visually, the anime was pretty good.
Kodaka (the series’ scenario writer) has published a series of tweets regarding NDRV3 & DR3, including some teasers for the anime. Long post ahead! Tweets are as followed. (Thanks bamboo-woods @ tumblr for the translations!)
“Danganronpa 3 The end of Kibougamine High” is an animation for final episode of events in Kibougamine High! “New-Danganronpa V3” is a completely new chapter! Both of them are completely different 3s!! Fans of DR 2 might want to look forward to the animation bit. And for the game, please stay tuned for completely new world!
I want to give DR fans a stomping shock for animation “Danganronpa 3 The end of Kibougamine”. So I’ll be directing production. We introduced anime only, so I think you’ll be surprised at our next news. It’s a piece that drains you out just by looking at!
Naegi’s height is growing, but it’s just an expression thing and he’s going to look mature. The whole thing is more similar to DRAE’s anime than DR’s first anime.
(TN: I think he means that Naegi might look taller, but his height hasn’t really changed)
The first animation for Danganronpa contributed to increasing DR fans. However, 3’s animation will target people who supported Danganronpa up until now. I thought about what excites you guys the best, and I thought I should do it.
This is our repayment for Danganronpa fans. There’s no reason to betray it. We’re drawing the final episode with full power. The mission to excite all the fans! I hope to complete it and meet again!
As a fan of the games you failed me with the anime format as the end of the main trilogy, even more dissapointed that the last game in this universe is a shooter called Another Episode. In any case its a show I cannot miss now since it was made specially for fans like it or not, we are curious about the conclusion.
I got into Danganronpa in March, and ever since I haven’t been able to leave this fandom. I just love this series. I’m so hyped for the game and anime, you have no idea. My favorite game was definitely SDR2, but the other games were amazing too. The anime was pretty rushed. It’s better if you play the game before watching the anime, because the anime feels more like a recap of the events (it worked for me, since I was way too lazy to go through the whole game again). I liked the art style and voice acting, but that’s pretty much it. It’s not a really wise choice to try to compress a 24 hour long game in 12 episodes (still loving Monokuma’s dance, too. I literally squealed when I saw Shirokuma doing it in DR:AE).
The Robo guy looks really cool, can’t wait to see why he looks like that. Also, holy crap, Naegi’s way taller than before. Where’s that 5’3″ midget we all know and love?
Anyways, I seriously can’t wait! 2016 is gonna be an amazing year. Just heard that ZE3 will appear in 2016 too. I’m shaking with excitement.
so we get an anime to finsh the main story arc, and the new game is off to something new…
TV Danganronpa 3 is about the Main story While Game Danganronpa 3 is a new story on its own.
True, but the original DR anime was an adaptation. With this anime, they can do whatever they want, they aren’t restricted by any source material. Hopefully it will be a lot better as a result.
Kodaka will be directly involved in DR3 anime, so it has much more potential this time. The DR1 anime was a rushed adaptation, so hopefully DR3 can overcome that, being a standalone anime and all.
I honestly would rather have a game instead of an anime but since its an original so it should be great. Hyped for V3 and Robo-MC!
Psycho Cool?! GODDAMN! Put a bit more despair in that and that’ll be the fucking absolute greatest VN ever!
Warning – Possible spoilers in the discussion below.
the trailer Confirms the Robot is the new MC at 1:21 mark https://youtu.be/0kWB42StHYY?t=81
just stop the vide around that time frame ( he finds a clue and this ?! on the stage )
