Episode 58

Lying Is Bad

September 3, 1956
Location: Cheyenne Wyoming

Everyday, everypony is kept working busy on the Union Pacific, but they don't mind. They enjoy their work, and couldn't think of anything better to do.

Song: link

Conductor: All aboard!
Signal Pony: *Turns signal green*
Hawkeye: Another 일 another dollar.
Stylo: 당신 said it.
Hawkeye: *Blows horn twice, as he drives his train out of the station*

Meanwhile in the yards.

Wilson: *Pushing freight cars down the hump at 5 miles an hour*
Snowflake: *Checking freight cars* Go a little slower.
Wilson: Got it. *Slows train down to 3 miles an hour*
Worker: *Uncouples freight cars*
Snowflake: Good.
Metal Gloss: *Walking into yards*
Snowflake: Metal Gloss, your train is ready to go.
Metal Gloss: Got it. *Goes to another train*
Percy: *Putting oil in the valve gear of Metal Gloss' engine*
Metal Gloss: *Arrives* Hi.
Percy: 저기요 Metal, I'm just making sure the valve gear has enough grease, and oil.
Metal Gloss: It looks great Percy. Thanks. *Climbs into engine*
Percy: Working 의해 yourself today?
Metal Gloss: Yeah, I'll be fine. This engine burns oil, so I can operate this train 의해 myself.
Percy: *Backs up from train* You're good to go.
Metal Gloss: *Blows whistle, and rings 벨 as she drives her train out of the yards*

Back at the station

Pete: Attention, the 다음 passenger train for North Platte will arrive in two minutes.
Passengers: *Buying tickets, and goes onto station platform*
Pete: Too bad Gordon is driving the train.

On Sherman Hill.

Gordon: *Driving passenger train* No, I don't believe it.
Mirage: Okay, 당신 don't have to believe it. I'm just saying that when a car's tire get flat, and 당신 continue driving, 당신 rip it up into shreds, and it just falls off.
Gordon: Yeah, whatever. *Passes red signal*
Mirage: 당신 just passed a red signal.
Gordon: The 더 많이 the merrier.
Mirage: *Confused 의해 what Gordon said*
Metal Gloss: *Blows whistle, and passes Gordon on the other side of the line*
Gordon: Ugh, I hate steam engines.
Mirage: Well, our railway is scrapping 더 많이 of them. All we have are those Northerns, the challengers, and the big boys.
Gordon: *Slowing train down*
Mirage: *Looks out window of his engine*
Gordon: *Stops train at station*
Pete: *Walks onto platform* Mirage, I got a job for you.
Mirage: Oh good, what is it?
Pete: Come into my office, and I'll tell you.

As the two ponies went into Pete's office, 더 많이 passengers were getting onto Gordon's train.

Gordon: Well, looks like I'm on my own.
Conductor: All aboard.
Signal Pony: *Turns signal green*
Gordon: Adios Cheyenne. *Blows horn twice*

Pete was telling Mirage about his special job in his office.

Pete: We're suppose to get a new shipment of supply trucks. One of them just arrived, and I want 당신 to drive it around, and check it out. Make sure it works up to our standards.
Mirage: Yes sir.
Pete: *Gives Mirage the keys to the truck* And be careful. 당신 can drive the truck for as long as 당신 want, but just bring it back here with no damage.
Mirage: Yes sir.

Meanwhile in Ogden Utah, Anthony, and Roger were having hard times working on their railway. Even though they were getting extra help from Duke, there was still to much work. However, things were entirely bad for Roger.

In Michael's office.

Michael: I want 당신 to work the yard for this entire week, but be careful. Gangsters have been spotted there, and they have guns.
Roger: I'll be careful sir.
Michael: I hope so.
Roger: *Walks out of station, and heads for the yards* Why do those wiseguys come here anyway? There's no fence to prevent them from coming in, but they just show up anyway.
Anthony: *Arrives* Are 당신 talking to yourself?
Roger: Maybe. What's it to you?
Anthony: If you're worried about the gangsters, let them stay there. They ain't gonna hurt you.
Roger: Oh yes they will. I just want to do my job, but they end up shooting at me anyway. I'm just an ordinary 조랑말 driving around in a train. What have I done to anypony?
Anthony: Besides the fact that 당신 keep trying to get them to leave?
Roger: They have guns. Why should they stay here? Those wiseguys could hurt somepony.
Anthony: Since when were 당신 concerned about others?
Roger: Forget you. Why am I wasting time with you, when I should be working? *Goes to yards*

Meanwhile, with Mirage he was still test driving the truck that Pete gave him.

Mirage: All things in this vehicle seem to be correct. Time to go back to Cheyenne. *Turns truck around, and sees a small Southern Pacific work train* Hmm, that engineer seems new. I wonder who he is.

The engineer was named Ryan. He was hired 의해 Michael to fix track on his line.

Ryan: *Stops train at red signal*
Mirage: *Stops truck 다음 to Ryan's train* I'm Nocturnal Mirage. Who are you?
Ryan: I'm Ryan.
Mirage: Don't recall seeing 당신 before. What brings 당신 this way?
Ryan: *Gets angry* My boss told me to fix track! (This is no time to be talking with a 조랑말 obsessed with cars.)
Mirage: Well done. Cheers, and keep up the good work. *Drives away*
Ryan: Stupid bastard. *Sees signal is green* Well, time to continue with my work. *Drives train*

Roger got in a locomotive, and was pushing freight cars down the hump. He was still concerned about the gangsters nearby.

Gangster 조랑말 35: Shoot him.
Gangster 조랑말 46: I'm on it. I'm on it. *Grabs pistol, and shoots at Roger*
Roger: *Takes cover*

The mafia didn't like Roger, and often tried to kill him whenever they could.

Gangster 조랑말 35: Let me do it. *Grabs tommygun, and shoots fifty bullets at Roger*
Roger: *Continues hiding in cab*

After working in the yards, Roger had to put some tank cars in a siding. Another train would take the cars to a dairy, and they would be loaded up with milk.

Roger: *Slowly putting tank cars in siding*
Jeff: *Fixing nearby track*
Roger: *Stops train in siding, then sees Jeff* I remember him.
Jeff: *Sees Roger* I remember him. *Walks over to Roger's train*
Roger: *Jumps out of engine*
Jeff: *Sees bullet holes in Roger's engine* What happened?
Roger: Some gangsters tried shooting at me. My boss just makes me continue with my work.
Jeff: Nopony understands our feelings. Now if 당신 were sick, 당신 couldn't work, and 당신 wouldn't have to worry about gangsters. Would you?
Roger: Good idea. I'll try it.

He did so 다음 morning.

Michael: *Answers phone in his office* Hello?
Roger: I don't feel well!
Michael: So?
Roger: I can't go to work today.
Michael: 당신 sound alright to me. Why don't 당신 come over here, and let me check 당신 out?
Roger: No. What do 당신 think I am, a 도서관, 라이브러리 book? *Hangs up*
Michael: Great. *Gets on PA system* Attention, Anthony Richards, and Ryan Morrison, please come to my office.
Anthony & Roger: *Arrives in Michael's office*
Michael: Roger is pretending to be sick.
Anthony: How can 당신 tell?
Michael: 의해 his voice. I'm getting somepony to bring him here. In the meantime, you'll have to do his work, as well as your own.
Anthony: Fine.
Ryan: I'll be able to do that.
Anthony: Good. I knew I could rely on you. Now get going.

So they did. Anthony got in a passenger train, and was using a Pacific to pull it.

Ryan worked in the yards, and would take a freight train westbound later.

Anthony didn't mind his work. When he got to another station, he uncoupled his engine from the passenger train, and drove it towards a hill.

Sometimes on railways, when a train is heavy, it needs extra engines to get up the hill. The engines used to push these trains uphill are called helpers. They get on the train at the bottom of the hill, then they get off at the top, allowing the train to continue on downhill.

Anthony was going to work as a helper today. He parked his engine in a siding, and waited for a freight to arrive.

Gangsters: *Waiting 의해 the tracks on the hill* We're gonna kill that blue unicorn today.
Gangster 57: The sooner, the better.
Engineer: *Blows horn on train*
Anthony: Well, I better get ready to help this train get up the hill.
Engineer: *Gets train pass Anthony*
Gangster 57: He's getting ready. *Loads sniper 소총 with bullets*
Anthony: *Drives engine out of siding, and onto freight train*
Gangster 57: *Aiming rifle*
Gangster 45: Shoot him, shoot him.
Gangster 68: *Looking at train* Wait, don't shoot! That's not Roger.
Gangster 57: *Shoots funnel on Anthony's engine*
Anthony: What was that?
Gangster 68: I told 당신 it wasn't Roger.
Gangster 57: 당신 should've told me sooner. *Accidentally pulls trigger on rifle*

The bullet hit Anthony's front leg, then the train stopped.

Gangsters: Let's get out of here. *Running away*
Anthony: Help? Anypony? I'm stuck in a train.
Ryan: *Arrives five 분 after the accident* Anthony, are 당신 okay?
Anthony: I would've been if 당신 got here sooner.
Ryan: Never mind, we'll help you.

Anthony soon got back to Ogden, and was sitting at a bench on the station with Roger.

Roger: I'm sorry about your accident. I'm always cautious when it comes to driving trains near the mafia. They don't like me.
Anthony: Why didn't 당신 warn me?
Roger: I didn't think-
Michael: *Arrives* 당신 never do!
Roger: *Looks at Michael*
Michael: 당신 can start now 의해 doing Anthony's work as well as your own. That'll teach 당신 to pretend you're sick.

After placing Anthony's engine into the repair shop, Ryan was going to do his final job of the day. He was driving a train full of equipment for repairing track, when he had to stop at a red signal. Then Mirage arrived in another brand new supply truck.

Ryan: *Opens window in cab, and looks at Mirage*
Mirage: Splendid to see 당신 again. I'm test driving supply trucks for my railway.
Ryan: Well done. Cheers, and keep up the good work. *Drives train pass the signal when it changes green*
