Are Megatron and Galvatron the same Decepticon?

This is one thing that has confused me to high hell ever since I received a Galvatron toy. I've heard that Galvatron is basically a souped up version of Megatron, though some sources say otherwise. Could anyone provide an explanation?

Most Megatrons are upgraded into Galvatron. So yes, only the name changes, usually.

Yes, they are the same Decepticon as Unicron turned Megatron into Galvatron in The Transformers: The Movie.

Future incarnations often rename him Galvatron because they think that name sounds cooler.
