TWO MOONS HAD PAST SINCE MISTKIT AND NIGHTKIT'S deaths, and Leopardfoot was still stung with grief. That doing will always be in my head, and I'll never forget my sisters.
I hurried out of the elders' den, Stonepelt at my tail. When I leapt in the nursery, he growled. "Leopardfoot!"
Leopardfoot got out of the nursery at the sound of his voice. "What is it, Stonepelt?"
Stonepelt was hot with fury. "Your son, here, put burrs in my bedding! See?" He turned around, his back covered in burrs. I chuckled, admiring the reaction of my practical joke. "I will be itchy for sunrises!"
"Stonepelt!" Larksong, another elder, came out of their den. "Surely you're not scolding the only kit in ThunderClan!"
Stonepelt scoffed. "That kit is a menace! He put burrs in my bedding!"
"It might've been Lionpaw." Larksong mewed. "Don't scold a kit! Now, ask Featherwhisker to help 당신 groom your pelt."
"Come, Tigerkit," Leopardfoot beckoned me to get back into the nursery.
"Tigerkit," she scolded as we walked in, "why did 당신 put burrs in Stonepelt's bedding?"
"I wanted to brighten everyone's moods, so I decided to do a little joke. That's all--"
"A little joke!?" she yowled. "How do 당신 think Stonepelt feels?"
I chuckled. "Itchy."
Leopardfoot then cuffed me on the back of the head. "That's it! 당신 are not going outside today, anymore!"
"But Leopardfoot--"
"Don't, 'but Leopardfoot,' me! In the nest, now!"
I groaned with annoyance,asIwalked into the nest with Leopardfoot deside me.
"This is the third time this quarter moon he made a practical joke!" Leopardfoot told Snowfur nad Robinwing. Robinwing came to the nursery a moon ago, saying she was expecting kits. They both shook their heads.
"Hopefully my kits won't pick up his bad habits," Robinwing muttered.
"Leopardfoot," I started, "can I talk to Lionpaw for--"
"No!" she meowed.
I hate being told no! When I become leader, no one will say "no" to me!
"Thistleclaw! Bluefur!"
Snowfur was filled with joy when her mate, Thistleclaw, and her sister, Bluefur, came to visit her three sunrises later.
Snowfur stood up to meet Thistleclaw, with weight heaving at her paws.
"I heard from Featherwhisker the other day," she said, pressing against Thistleclaw's side, "and he said that the kits will be due very soon. Are 당신 excited?"
"Very," her mate replied.
I watched in disgust, as Snowfur was brushing her muzzle against her mate's. *Get a den!*
Bluefur cleared her throat. "I'm still here."
"Oh," Snowfur chuckled, nervously. She sighed as she flopped back into her nest. Suddenly, she grunted and winced.
"What's wrong?" Thistleclaw was protective all of a sudden.
"Nothing," she grunted. "Just--a little sharp pain."
"Sharp?" Leopardfoot mewed, suddenly absorbed in thought. "Snowfur, I believe that pain means the kits are coming."
"No," Snowfur yowled, "they're couldn't be due anytime soon, I thought! Oh, dear! I think it's another contraction!"
Bluefur gasped in shock. "Quick! Get Featherwhisker!"
Robinwing woke up from her nap. "Are the kits coming?"
"What else would it be?" Thistleclaw snapped.
Robinwing jolted up, clumsily. "I'll get him."
As she left, Bluefur licked between her sister's ears. "It'll be over soon."
What's going on? I inched out of the nest, stretching out my neck. Bluefur blocked the view to see what was going on. I suddenly felt Leopardfoot's paw on my tail, and she was pulling me back into the nest.
"You're as nosy as a squirrel! Why don't 당신 go outside and see if 당신 can find Lionpaw."
Finally! "Okay," I squeaked, leaping out of the nursery. Featherwhisker was in the way of the entrance, but I was able to pass. "Watch out!" I yowled, "Coming through!"
I breathed in the fresh air of the clearing. The nursery's too crowded!
"Excuse me!" Thistleclaw moved swiftly out of the nursery and through the gorse entrance. *He's in a hurry!*
"Tigerkit!" *Lionpaw!*
I ran to the entrance of the apprentice's den. "Hi, Lionpaw!"
I looked up to meet his face, because I like to be looked in the eye when I spoke to someone. Lionpaw towered over me, with his large size. Goldenpaw then came at her brother's side.
"What brings 당신 here, today?" Goldenpaw aske me.
"Snowfur is having her kits, and Leopardfoot told me to come out here for a while."
"Want to walk around the camp?" Lionpaw asked me.
"You already gave him a tour," Goldenpaw mewed.
"That's okay," I answered, "I'd 사랑 another tour!"
Lionpaw stood up. "Great!"
"Let's go!" I squeaked.
"We're at the apprentices' den," Lionpaw started. "Over here, is the elders' den. That's were the retired warriors and queens sleep."
Stonepelt came out of the elders' den. *Uh-oh!*
"My shoulder may be crippled," he glared at me, "but the 다음 time 당신 put burrs in my beddin, I will get you!"
"Cranky!" Goldenpaw emphasized the word, making it sound like two.
"Moving on," Lionpaw continued with the tour. "Here is where our warriors sleep. Let's go over to Highrock."
As we moved across the clearing, Thistleclaw came into the clearing. He had a wad of moss in his mouth, and he entered into the nursery.
"Is she alright?" I heard him meow.
Featherwhisker's voice then rang out from inside the nursery. "She's fine, but she'll need 더 많이 moss. Gather it from the stream outside camp. The water will be fresher there."
Thistleclaw then ran out of the nursery.
"He's in a hurry," I repeated, aloud.
Goldenpaw purred. "You are so funny!"
"Here we are, at Highrock!" Lionpaw stopped at the monumental stone. "That is where our leader, Sunstar, makes all of the announcements."
"Your father was a great leader," Goldenpaw whispered.
I nodded. *Too bad he's a cowardly kittypet!* I swore vengeance on all kittypets, because they lured my father into their impure ways.
"We end our tour at the nursery." Lionpaw stopped. "Aee 당신 later, Tigerkit!" He then left.
"Bye, Tigerkit," Goldenpaw mewed.
I stood 의해 the edge of the tunnel.
"He's beautiful!" I heard Snowfur exclaim.
The voices were muffled and low. I couldn't then make out what they were saying. *That's it! I'm going in!*
I scrabbled into the nursery. "Is it over?" I saw Snowfur suckling, one, solitary tom. "Where are the other kits?"
Leopardfoot purred. "That's the only one."
I cocked my head. "That's all?" I stared at the pure white tom. "But it's white! It'll never be able to hunt with a pelt that color. The prey'll see him comin tree-lengths away!"
Leopardfoot walked over to me and nosed me into the nest. "He'll be a fine hunter, like his mother."
I snorted. "Not as good as me."
"Keep your 코멘트 to yourself, Tigerkit," Leopardfoot scolded, nicely.
Thistleclaw was in the nursery, seeing his son for the first time. He was licking between Snowfur's ears. "Well done," he murmured. "I'm so proud of you."
Snowfur looked up at her mate. "Can we call him Whitekit?" she whispered.
He nodded. "We can call him whatever 당신 like."
*Whitekit. How original!*
"Why don't 당신 take a nap, Tigerkit?" Leopardfoot woke me from my thoughts.
"Okay," I soon fell asleep. ...
