His hair's always been like that. :) Blackish-brown or brownish-black. I think that if he's under the shade or something, his hair would look dark, but if under the sunlight, his brown hair colour would be more obvious. Even in the final scene, when he and Rapunzel kiss during the kingdom celebration, you can see that his hair colour is slightly darker than Rapunzels. It's so nice though! :D
