Hmm... I have a lot to say. I'm going to answer your question, but let me get a few things on my mind out of the way... please read it all!!

First:
Let me start 의해 saying that there are different types of anime. Some are for teenagers, some for children, and some for adults.
Contrary to popular(misguided) belief, people watch 아니메 for many reasons, not only perverted ones(although some do. Not that it's a bad thing. People can watch whatever they want, for whatever reason they want, 당신 know).

Secondly:
아니메 and 만화 are basically the same thing... 아니메 is just what people in 일본 call cartoons. Really. The only difference between 아니메 and western 만화 are where they were made.
Some people like to say,
"Ohhh, no!! They're different!! Western 만화 and 아니메 are soooo different!!"
...How? 아니메 just seems to have a larger following and is aimed at a bigger audience, but they're essentially the same.
(Also, some "Otaku" out there like to bash western 만화 because they think 아니메 is superior. Please do not do that. Would 당신 like it if someone bashed 아니메 because they find western 만화 superior? Most of 당신 probably answered no. Then don't bash western cartoons. If 당신 don't like them, that's fine. But please, do not try and make them out to be super-duper terrible, just because they didn't come from Japan. Many say, "Oh, but Western 만화 are sooo stupid!!" ...listen. I can name a bunch of 아니메 that are really, reaaallyyy stupid, so don't go there. Also, don't pull the, "But 아니메 is soooo much better drawn! The artwork is so much prettier!!!". There are a bunch of 아니메 with terrible animation/artwork. Western cartoonist work really hard to make cartoons- just as hard as 아니메 creators. Don't bash their work just because of where it came from. Of course, this only applies to a select few 아니메 fans.)

Third:
If 당신 think that 아니메 is a "bad role model" for kids, maybe you're watching 아니메 that's not made for kids, but for a 더 많이 mature audience.
Some 아니메 are perverted, some aren't. Some are violent, some aren't. It depends on the genre of the anime(ex; action, romance, comedy...) and the audience it was aimed at(ex; kids, young adults, adults).
Very much like... books. Yeah. Some 책 are perverted, and some may present some mature themes and characters that may be considered "bad role models". But that doesn't mean 책 are disgusting and gross, right?

Fourth:
Now, for an actual answer to your question. People like anime... because they like it. Why do some people like TV? Why do some people like reading? Why do some people like (fill in the blank)?
They enjoy it, and that's the only reason they need.

Because we find it interesting, its your choice to watch the gross type of anime. I grew up watching it. i'm Japanese and live in 일본 so
I naturally like it.
I'll leave the rest of it to other people I don't feel like saying anything else.

I like the 아니메 things that I watch because of the story, and some of them are pretty funny.

~there ARE educational animes (like Hetalia....you've just gotta know a little bit to catch the history in it)

Part 2: "why 당신 even waste your time on it?"
~it's made me 프렌즈 i wouldn't have without it
~i talk to people a lot 더 많이 and become closer with them because we have 더 많이 in common
~it's fun as heck to draw
~it gives me challenges (mostly in drawing it but also in following along with some of it, Death Note being the biggest 1 in that aspect)
~it gives me something 2 do when otherwise i'd b bored outta my mind!!

Not all of it is bad for children. There are some 아니메 like Fruits Basket, Pokemon, ect that are no different then plenty of appropriate 만화 and actually teach children a important message with a good story behind them.

How is it disgusting and gross in general? Yes there's plenty of animes that have ecchi and perverted things in them but a large majority of 아니메 is totally clean. All of the ones I watch are~

I like it because there's animes that are creative and have a beautiful story to them. I admit there are some awful animes out there, but a lot are no different then some of the shows 당신 probably watch. Some make me cry, laugh. They inspire me, make me happy, and ignite my imagination~

It actually depends on what kind of 아니메 당신 watch. I consider myself an Otaku, but I don't watch 아니메 I know are gross. 당신 are talking about hentai and fanservice, no? I can handle it. It all depends on how mature 당신 are.

But, I'm not keen on how 당신 said "why 당신 even waste your time on it". It sounded as if 당신 were saying it's a waste of time for everyone. I'm probably wrong, and if I am, I'm sorry.

I think 당신 might be looking at the fanservice-y type animes(or full-on hentai). 당신 know, stuff with teen 아니메 girls getting panty shots and suggestive facial expressions 24-7 (like this 아니메 called Rosario+Vampire -_-)

There ARE animes for children, they're just /really/ hard to find.

Ok, now to why I like it. I like 아니메 because some have amazing stories, take soft, down-to-earth animes like CLANNAD for example. Some can even teach 당신 important life lessons, for kids 또는 not.

Well not all 아니메 is necessarily bad. Sure there maybe a few... odd... ones here and there but it really depends on the viewer.

I'm a big 팬 of 아니메 because it greatly entertains me either through its story 또는 characters and is one of the things that comforts me in life.

But hey, if 당신 don't like anime, that's okay and I ain't going to give 당신 shit for it. uvu

First of all and when I say this get this through your thick, dense skull. 아니메 isn't cartoon. Surprised? 당신 should be! Cartoon is drawings shown in an exaggerated way. Now before 당신 jump to the stupid conclusion that they’re the same thing, don’t. Just shut up and listen! 아니메 is 텔레비전 애니메이션 having a science fiction theme and (yes) sometimes includes violent and sexual material. Does it make it gross? No, it makes it real. Why on earth would 당신 want to watch something purposely watered down? 아니메 is an escape from the harsh reality we live in. It’s funny and the characters are relatable. Sure, when I was kid I watched cartoons, there’s no denying that.

But I got older and discovered 아니메 which in my opinion is better. Far better. I would respect your argument but there wasn’t any. All 당신 said was that it was ‘gross’ and ‘disgusting’. That’s just a pathetic reasoning. It really doesn’t clarify your feelings. However, it did clarify that you’re an immature cretin who has no freakin clue what she/he are talking about. I don't know about you, but I have learned a lot good things from Animes. Certain Animes have changed me, for good. e.g. 앤젤 Beats!, Fruits Basket, 07 Ghost, etc. If 당신 don't have enough information about, then don't talk. There are many Animes that have stories, good role 모델 and which are not disgusting and gross. We don't waste our time, we like it. Hope you'll understand this.~
