Why isn’t the number 11 pronounced "onety one"? ^_^'

The word "eleven" comes from the word "endleofan"
Over the generations, "endleofan" has transmuted into "eleven"

"End" originally meant "one"
"leofan" means "left" 또는 "leave" 또는 "left over"

So "endleofan" means "One left over"

In Lithuania, they used to (or still do, I'm not sure) count like "ten, eleven, twelve, thrilve, fouleven, fifleven, sixleven, sevenleven, eightleven, nineleven"
