Movies are supposed to provide a suspension of disbelief. That\'s the whole point. But even some of the greatest screen outings have their flaws.

Plot holes, while not completely ruining a movie, can niggle away at you like an itch: stones left unturned, implausible outcomes, unexplained coincidences, errors in editing or just an impossible poster.

Here are some of the biggest gaping holes in films that are otherwise excellent.

Luke goes to visit Yoda and spends a good portion of the movie training to be a Jedi with him. His training appears to go on for weeks. Meanwhile, Han and Leia\'s adventures last what seems to be a couple of days at the most before Luke comes to "rescue" them. Time-zone issue? We think plot hole.

A good portion of the movie sees the Gotham police force trapped underground after Bane takes over the city. Why would they send the

police force down there? Anyway, months pass, Batman comes in to save the day. Except all the officers emerge unscathed, clean-shaven, and, most crucially, alive. You would have thought months underground would take their toll. Apparently not in Gotham.

Yes, another Batman one (we love you Christopher Nolan, honest!). Remember the microwave emitter that vaporises all the water in the city? It\'s funny how none of the humans are microwaved, considering we are made up of around 70% water. Also, the toxins dumped in the water by the League of Shadows over weeks can only be breathed in through vapour – surely quite a few people have taken showers/boiled kettles, and so would have inhaled steam through boiled water in that time? 

Bond meets Blofeld, who seems to be unaware of who 007 is. But wait, haven\'t they met before? Oh yeah, in previous movie

. Granted, then it was as Sean Connery rather than George Lazenby, and an original script revealed that Bond had undergone plastic surgery to disguise himself. However, that narrative was ditched, hence the gaping plot hole.

Arguably one of the most discussed and contested holes. We\'ll say nothing of the extraordinarily unlikely premise that one man wouldn\'t change cells in twenty years. Let\'s let than one go. But how does Andy, after spending decades slowly chiseling his way out through a thick prison wall, hidden only by a poster of Rita Hayworth, re-attach the poster from the other side? Eh?

Buzz Lightyear comes into the story believing that he is real, and not in fact a toy. Despite the endless denial, it seems rather odd that he freezes like the other toys whenever humans enter the room.

Groom-to-be Doug, whom the others spend days trying to find, is finally discovered on the top of a roof in Las Vegas. Easy enough mistake to make… except that it\'s the sweltering heat of Nevada in the summer, and God knows how many substances he has in his body. He would be severely dehydrated and need to be hospitalized. Or he could even be dead. On the other hand the tiger and the baby are 

It\'s arguably one of the best films in the series, but it did provide one nagging inconsistency. Hermione\'s time-turner proved a pivotal part, saving Buckbeak the Hippogriff from being executed and Sirius Black having all the joy sucked out of him by the Dementors. That\'s all well and good, guys, but if you can go back in time surely you would stop Voldemort doing all those horrible things in the past? 

How It Should Have Ended pointed this plot hole out remarkably well: 

Those giant ice blocks in the castle that Edward carves sculptures out of: where did they all come from? Plus, the film is set in a warm climate. And how would he have carried them? Sort it out, Burton.

Those. Bloody. Eagles. Of course, if Frodo and the Fellowship had ridden eagles to Mordor to destroy the One Ring we would have had one (short) movie and no character development, Gollum moments or awesome battles. But it would have saved countless fictional lives.
