On this day 2 years ago was the launch link link of the popular UK telly show Geordie Shore which at the point of launch in May 2011 had been previously conceived in the wake of the success of US TV show Jersey Shore which aired link on (MTV?) in the US in December 2009.

Following the launch and success link of Geordie Shore, 2 more Jersey Shore inspired and oriented shows have launched, the first was The Valleys set in Wales which launched link on 25 September 2012 and the second was Gandía Shore set in Spain which launched link on October 14, 2012.

The show which echoes Jersey Shore with it's Geordie residents having distinctively orange skin (a point which has been referenced in various songs including Barley Political - Key Of Awesome’s track Jersey Shore Parody Song link and rather unfavourably in B Dizzle's eponymously titled track link entitled Jersey Shore) has attracted some criticism after the show was criticized link for being a contributing factor to the north west having the highest alcohol rate in the UK after health campaign organisation Balance, which is based in the North East, hit out at the show for helping to glamorise alcohol and several of it’s cast members have been subject to high profile news coverage including cast members Holly Hagen being intimately involved with X Factor hit-maker Frankie Cocozza link , Miss Hagen accusing link hit-maker Rita Ora of having an affair with hit-maker and Ms Ora’s mentor Jay-Z, Miss Hagen being accused link of being an wh*re by Miss Ora and Charlotte-Letitia Crosby being banned link from the road for 18 months and paying £350 in fines after drink driving.

My opinion on the show, credit where credit is due Geordie Shore is certainly a more entertaining shore than most with this bunch, however, no shore in the world can beat Westward Ho! and I reckon Electric Sandwiches link would second that.
