Iran is an Islamic Republic now, with a rigid theocratic system implemented after the Iranian Revolution from 1979, according to the Western calendar anyway. It was a monarchy once. The sad truth and a bitter irony of history is that people, especially the minorities like me, used to live a much better and happier life during the times of the last Shah than today. From my Iranian perspective, a monarchy was much more secular and liberal than this republic that we live in right now. Maybe living in a monarchy once again wouldn't be such a bad idea after all. I was born too late to remember the last Shah of Iran, but my parents and grandparents have told me all about it. Almost like a fairytale, comparing to Iran today!

I wish I was living in a monarchy. There was much more freedom back then, during the last Shah. At least, that's what I've been told by my parents and grandparents. They say Iran was a secular country, almost like some Western democracy back then. I guess I was born too late to a country whose government doesn't care about its people at all, ignoring the will of the people for a change. I think it's about time Iran becomes a modern Western democracy, even if that means the restoration of monarchy in my country and I'm not the only one who think so. Millions of people of all ages want the same: freedom at last, even in a monarchy. In Iran, republic obviously doesn't work.

So far. If our president doesn't declare himself our new sultan.

He already has almost unlimited power and full control over the entire state. There's no more democracy in Turkey anymore!
