Wicked Awesome 3D Photography brings real estate to life

Company is owned by three sisters who use 3D technology to give a 24/7 open house

By using Matterport technology, the company can see property from a dollhouse and floorplan perspective and move through the property

One sister is based in Cary while the other two are in New Hampshire

When Brittany Dolloff relocated to Cary from Boston a year and a half ago, she found the search for a home overwhelming.

“By the end of a single day, I was trying to keep straight which one had which feature and what the floor plan looked like,” she said.

Dolloff, who studied photography in college and worked as a Realtor in Boston, quickly pinpointed a hole in the market.

“I realized we could meld the two things I love: photography and real estate,” she said. “I ran the idea by my sisters, and they thought it was really cool. I wouldn’t be able to do it without them. We are a three-sister company.”

The company is Wicked Awesome 3D Photography, a real estate-focused photography company specializing in 3D technology that allows clients to have a 24/7 open house.

“You can walk through the house, stand in the bathroom or kitchen and get a feel for a space that you can’t get from a photograph,” she said.

Wicked Awesome uses Matterport technology and is the only certified provider in North Carolina. The technology originated in California in 2014. Using Matterport, a client can see a property from a dollhouse and floorplan perspective as well as moving through the property.

“They can spin the house around and check it out from all sides,” Dolloff said.

Wicked Awesome opened its Cary office six months ago. A second location recently opened in New Hampshire, where Dolloff’s sisters, Stephanie Dolloff and Ashley Stiles, are located.

“It’s been a crazy six months,” Dolloff said. “We are working with a national property management company and helping them integrate it into their sales process. It makes sense for apartments, especially.”

She said they also are working with local builders, and a good portion of the business is with individual real estate agents, who like to give customers up-to-date technology.

“Builders really love it,” she said. “They can throw up a house, and if they need to sell, even with custom builds, they can show what it looked like and what they’ve done.”

She said the technology makes it more effective than a traditional slide show of house photos.

“We joke about the photo slide shows. In the generation we are in now, the attention span isn’t enough to make it through a slide show.”

She said the technology also could be used by insurance agents, a part of the business she calls “overlooked.”

“One of our customers had a house flooded during the sales process,” she said. “They were going back and forth with their insurance company, but as soon as their Realtor reminded them that they had the Matterport video, they were able to get a lot more money back. That was a good win.”

Dolloff credits the sisters’ success to a solid working relationship.

“We have good debates,” she said. “It’s really nice, though, because we are able to talk openly. We each have our strengths. My oldest sister crunches the numbers, and my middle sister has always worked in customer service.”

In the Cary office, Dolloff is the sole photographer and company president.

“Our next step we’ve been working on is to bring on new photographers,” she said. “We’re at the phase where expansion is an issue. We don’t want to get too big. We want to keep that boutique feel.”
