Another day, another batch of new shooting photos from the set of

filming in Spain has an extra twist this year- the series is in town at the same time as another show and there’s been some confusion, as

sequel set in 16th century Verona, has been shooting in Caceres over the past few months, and is still going strong. The show’s filming around Plaza de San Jorge has caused some false reports, so be aware, there’s another series filming in the city.  (Frankly, this is dredging up Grumpy Old Woman memories of the fall when

filmed in Northern Ireland around the same time as

will be shooting in the streets of Caceres on December 14th and 15th, in the Monumental City.

That said, we do have new images from season 7 today! Courtesy of our friends at 

Malpartida’s Los Barruecos is the setting for a showdown between Lannister soldiers and Daenerys’ legions. The photos here show the aftermath of the battle with corpses strewn around. We can see in the first photo dummies of a Dothraki warrior and a Lannister soldier, shot through with arrows. In the following images, you can see a large number of extras, some in Lannister costuming, plus horses and the occasional smoking remnants on the battlefield.

The ambush filmed in Los Barruecos is shaping up to be a significant moment in season 7, and judging from the photos, both sides will be taking major hits in battle. This is going to be brutal, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Anyways this is definitely one of the Scenes I’m looking forward to as well as the aftermath.

I’ll have to check in on Still Star-Crossed at some point just to see how differently their Caceres scenery appears on screen. Otherwise, being an ABC period drama I’m going to assume for now that it will be a rather mediocre program. Broadcast networks tend to do things too ‘clean.’ I don’t mean just PG-13 content, but in overall appearance as well. It’s like they build their fancy sets and costumes and then are afraid to “rub some dirt on it.”

I imagine the Dothraki refusing to wear a “coward’s armor” won’t help them much. Then again, the Lannister troops aren’t exactly wearing heavy plate either. I wonder if they’ll show any dissension within the Dothraki hoard when they find themselves in poor weather and they begin losing brothers in this war Daenerys has created for them. I suppose they are Dothraki though, so it’s kind of what they live for.

Hahaha! I was on my way to making this joke. Well done! When the show airs these mannequins will look amazing. Now, they’re just funny looking.

Another battle Lannister Golden Boy is going to lose!!

Jaime is annoying the hell out of me for still “loving” Cersei- I wish they would go away to wherever whores go so that we could focus on all the mysteries and solve all the major arcs.

I agree. Sick of Jaime chasing that Cersei dream. Looking forward to seeing how the Dothraki deal with the western style of battle.

While I am impatient for Jaime to break with Cersei and it is frustrating to see him still be on her side, I disagree with everything else. Theirs is one of the biggest arcs in the show, and Jaime’s arc is something I am looking forward to in S7.

Jaime loses the battle yeah, but the odds were not really in his favor, were they. Not only was he facing an opposition with superior numbers, they also have a freaking dragon, which in itself should have ensured a rout for Dany. The fact that Jaime manages to put up a real fight is a credit to him.

Yes, the aftermath and the final result of the battle is the most interesting thing, because as far as it looks from these pictures Jaime will be having control of the battlefield and Dany won’t be enjoying even a Pyrrhic victory. That’s sad, cause in 610 Dany looked unfairly overpowered, and now it looks like the showrunners intend to smash her into the dirt. But on the other hand GoT has never been fair to its protagonists. At least, Dany will come out of this shit alive. (But Jon Snow will have to fix things nonetheless the great distress of all straight-white-male protagonists haters).

I agree. Purely from reading spoilers and leaks, it looks like Jaime could well end up with the best arc in S7.

I think that is a matter of opinion though. IMO, on paper and by that I mean mainly the books, Theon has the best arc of all the characters. I find that GRRM truly shines when he’s writing for Theon.

I can’t wait for the dragon ballista thing and that rumor of Jaime wanting to take on Drogon by himself lol.

His scene(s) with Olenna should hopefully also give us some character development that he’s been needing since the season 3 finale. Not to mention…finally leaving Cersei and joining the WW war!

Cersei and Jaime are one of the major plots, but not the only one, and they had 6 seasons of building up and developing it, while for instance, they let Bran out of season 5 entirely.

I feel this arc has been streched far beyond credibility. Lena is amazing as Cersei and this might have been a factor they considered. Maybe they also felt jumping right into the fantasy aspect now and killing the KL plotline would be too expensive..

Another problem :DnD now have fewer options on the Human-Political antagonistc department- but they could have introduced Euron back on season 5 and build him up to replace Ramsay on season 6 as the major sadictic man on the block. Maybe they felt that focusing too much on the Night King would not provide the series with enough drama.

Anyway, I think it was more than time to say goodbye to Cersei, move North, and start uncovering all other juicy and supernatural aspects.

It doesn’t matter how good your army looks,when you go to invade someone people there are not just gonna let you take everything from them and hang themselves from a tree.Season 7 should be extremely “hard” for Dany.I can’t believe people complaining on the internet,”OMG D&D now try to balance everything,Dany should win in 2 episodes,what is this?”.No.Not at all.This is not just Dany fighting some lords for a crown.Entire tribes from a foreign continent come to make your land their own.Of course you fight back.Of course there will be oposition.It’s what Cersei relies on.It’s what keeps her in power.Lords and bannermen coming together to fight not for her,but against the invaders.

From what I see in the photos, it doesn’t look like Jaime will be losing this battle at all. Just look at the Lannister banners: they look absolutely fresh over the burnt landscape. So, it looks like Jaime will be getting some reinforcements at the decisive moment, and Dany will be taught to equip her armies proper armament, instead of relying on her air-force alone.

Yeah, it looks like Dany is going to get her ass kicked this season. You know what is so annoying about GoT? They have these big epic shots at the end of the season and then completely reverse it within the first couple of episodes. Like the whole army of the dead marching towards the wall in the season 2 ender. Suddenly, they are almost completely gone to who knows where in the 1st episode. Last season they left it with a hero shot of Dany and her army and from the leaks and spoilers it looks like they are going to be dust by the end of season 7. There is no other way to explain why they would treat with Cersei otherwise.

Pretty silly for anyone to THINK they can take on Drogon with a sword. I don’t think anyone would actually do that if it were real, not just fantasy stories.

We do know that Jaime is rather depressed that his White Book list of deeds is very lacking so that could be on his mind. However, he’ll probably be in a situation where he has no choice, similar to how Jon found himself alone on the battlefield facing an oncoming cavalry.

Yeah, I am looking forward to his scene with Olenna. It has the potential to be one of the best character interactions of the season imo, with her confessing to have killed his son, (Cersei and Margaery will probably come up as well) plus it looks like he lets her have a dignified death.

Other than this, he turns out to be a better commander than even Tyrion anticipated, has a confrontation with Tyrion which could turn out to be another powerful scene if the writers do justice to both the characters, a re-reunion with Brienne ( these are always great) and fiinallly abandoning Cersei !! All in all should be a good season for him.

I know i for one,would have been bored if they started the WW invasion from this season because i don’t think it has 2 seasons worth of material,even short ones like these . This is not the Walking Dead,GOT is a fantasy show but at it’s core it has always been more about the political and human subject than the supernatural one,no offense to those who enjoy the latter more . IMO,this is why episodes like Hardhome and The Door seem special,because it feels way more impactful when they do fantasy in short dosages otherwise it loses it’s flair and it doesn’t become special anymore .

I wouldn’t change my thoughts of the likely outcome based simply on some banners within the frame of a pap’s camera since we don’t know what’s in the filming camera fov, or the timing of the viewed situation.

Everything we’ve read in Leaks and non-leak spoilers has suggested/stated that Daenerys defeats Jaime, while he needs Bronn to rescue him and get him to safety, along with the torching of Randall and Dickon post-battle.

It’s very hard to say: it’s a fantasy story, so the showrunners can turn it however they like. They can make Dany a welcomed liberator, or they can turn her into a king of Napoleon in Spain or Russia (the best parallel I could think of, though not very good in fact). However, if we look into the Middle Ages, true or alleged tyrants were overthrown with the help of “foreign invaders” pretty often, especially when those “foreign invaders” were led by someone with more or less legitimate claim. So, I kind of have a problem with this inconsistency, but I hope that it will be resolved in a satisfactory way.

Think I might be seeing different photos than others here because in no way I think those photos suggest Lannisters won the battle. The dummies on the ground are mostly lannister’s (there’s only one dothraki) and there are several extras standing, both dothraki and lannisters. Also, based on the leaks:

I think the 4chan leaks said Jaime tries to take down Dany. Drogon gets injured from the ballista, so Dany is forced to land. Jaime seeing her, charges at her with his sword, however, Drogon seeing that tries to flame him, but Bronn manages to save him by pushing him into the water.

We don’t really know if these 4chan leaks are legit though.

Taryls are excellent fighters. The were the only ones to defeat Robert during the rebellion.

I doubt dany will bring all her fighters to this battle so the numbers on ground should be even. I’d even say with the Tarlys, Jamie has the upper hand on ground.

He/she may have confused the other of events. Lannister take over Highgarden, hence why the Lannister flags are on the castle, and then the battle takes place.

Well, the “legit” spoilers from WotW imply that Dany won’t be doing well. Her return to Dragonstone, Tyrion’s stealth mission to KL, and the parlay at the Dragonpit speak of defeat, not of victory. The only question is the extent of this defeat, or rather who will be having the Pyrrhic victory, because it’s pretty obvious that at the end of this seasons both Dany and Cersei will be in the same stalemate situation.

Regardless of how the ambush goes Dany/Tyrion can’t do anything about taking KL. There’s wildfire hidden all over the city. Cersei would blow everything up before she lost the City to someone else. She basically has all city as a hostage.

Thats why Tyrion has to try to bring some sense to Jaime

Also I really doubt Cersei would agree to negociate with Dany, Tyrion, Jon etc if the Lannisters had defeated Dany at the ambush. Why she would?

The truth of the matter is that battles are not going to win the war for the Iron Throne. From all the 5 Kings, the only one who managed to make cause among its subjects and to have real support-engagement from most of his bannermen ( for a time, of course) was Robb Stark.

Jaime and Cersei will start winning the battles, then they will start losin then and by the end of the season I hope that at least Jaime will realize that it does not matter because:

1- Nobody wants a Lannister on the Iron Throne , except for the Lannisters. The Tyrells were their only hope of defeating all the rebelled Kingdoms and in Margeary in particular, of establishing their dinasty through a very popular Queen and a legimate heir of hers and Tommen. But crazy Cersei had to put her personal stupidity first and, of course

So, yes, I am not impressed by Jaime´s arc in the last 2 seasons and I hoped that amazing look he gave to Cersei on episode 10 was an indicator that he would start trying to find his way out.

Of course, this may not be the last shot, etc. But when someone retreats from the battlefield to the initial position, it’s called defeat, not victory (at least according to my vocabulary).

I do hope that Dany will win at least a Pyrrhic victory and (or) that she will manage to compensate the lack of success at the Highgarden battle at some other location or by some other way. Winning/losing a battle and winning/losing a war are two different things after all. But I am saying, that otherwise than in case of the BoB, the winner of the Highgarden (ambush) battle is much harder to predict.

Dany may and probably will get the upper hand in the first phase of the battle and toast the Tarlies, and make Jaime and Bronn to run.

But what about the aftermath? From what I heard, there hasn’t been a single hint that Jaime will become Dany’s captive, or that Highgarden will be surrendered by the Lanister forces, etc. So, that kind of implies that there might be the second phase of the battle with the surprise attack or similar, which might bring a victory to Jaime after all.

I am just speculating or maybe I just want to make myself (and you) to worry about Dany and keep your fingers crossed instead of complaining about snooze fest of predictive victory. No offense, OK?

But anyway, Dany seems to be making major mistakes in planning her entire campaign, starting with landing on Dragonstone, and that’s make me want to get a reasonable motivation for these mistakes ASAP, because now I’m just tempted to write her off as a hopeless military commander and that irritates me (sorry for whining, maybe I am just in a bad mood tonight).

The season is not yet lost, there are many questions that remain unaswered by the leks and pictures. One that arises, and might change everything is

If Dany´s forces will attempt and succeed in taking Casterly Rock, as it has been foreseen and speculated. The ambush is 100% the begining of the end f the Lannisters. It is that simple, because Cersei would not agree to a parlay with Dany and Jon if she would be on a winning streak.

I believeLannisters start the season trashing everybody, Dany breaks their spirit with this ambush by mid season and Cersei is left as the mayor of KL through terror

Any word on the members of Suicide Squad going beyond The Wall on a mission Grab-a-wight-and-run-before-a-White-Walker-gets-you? WHQ shooting is winding down and Rory etc have been nowhere in sight. Wouldn’t surprise me if there’s BS in those spoilers.

It’s pretty easy to see why she makes these “mistakes”, and that’s due to D&D’s refusal to adapt a certain character. I understand why they chose not to, but this is one of the unwanted consequences of that

In the books Dany will not be facing Cersei (that would be a complete rout as many speculated this season would be) but fAegon. That alone puts a completely different spin on things. In the books these won’t be “mistakes” as much as it will be just the hand she’s dealt (like having to land on DS and not being able to perform a “hostage rescue operation)

Randyll Tarly is an excellent commander and he lead the “Tyrell” van against Robert. Tarly fighters are only as good as the rest.

I agree with Priscila. Jaime-Cersei relationship was supposed to be wrapped up by Season 4 or at most, S5 not S8. GoT is a combination of “political characters” mixed with “fantasy”. It’s not about a person preferring one genre over the other. It’s about wrapping up both in 13 episodes without making a mess.

It appears to me they’re simply doing exactly what so many shows and movies do to create a dramatic story. Whether it’s D&D, GRRM or anyone else writing the story, some choices made just don’t make sense sometimes as they’re setting up what they think is climactic. Sometimes that method (character choices) looks dumb as it’s happening.

After last season everyone was asking how Cersei stands a chance. Daenerys, dragons, Dothraki, Unsullied, Dorne and the Reach all swarming together would leave her no chance. Not to mention the thought that Cersei would have earned so much hate that a lot of support could be gained easily by Daenerys. In line with some ideas, it appears they’re going to split them all up to weaken Daenerys’ side and bolster Cersei’s side by making her army stronger than perceived, more loyal than realistically expected and gaining more support than reasonable.

I think Cersei and Dany are agreeing to meet because they’ve reached a stalemate.

And because the show needs to finally get Jaime north.

You’re frustration is getting the best of you, calling things you want to happen 100% as set in stone and siting your own interpretations of different events with no tangible relationship as your reasoning for such conclusions. Also, I don’t think people showing up to once and for all see with their own eyes if the white walkers are real is a sign that either is weak and losing and desperate to treat and team up. The only person trying to turn it into an avengers meeting is Jon, with the possibility of Tyrion hopping in there with some greater good agenda as well since it’s his family.

Agree. Frustration that many readers and viewers feel results from withholding of reveals and retarding of character development. The reveals of season six were barely a safety valve. Mysteries and secrets pile up; none are explained. The science underlying the magic and unexplained phenomena, if any, is way overdue for exposure.

Compounding the impatience is the possibility that TSoIaF may never be completed.

Why are so many convinced Dany loses this battle? I see way more dead Lannister soldiers than Dothraki.

Dornish and yara’s iron islanders get whipped by Euron so all of Dany’s losses won’t be from the “ambush” but wars in this era don’t last past two or 3 major battles, if this is a major one where Dany gets the food, makes the Lannister’s and Tarly’s scatter, she burns Randyll then yes that is a victory for Dany. BUT it could also show Jamie and Bronn weren’t killed, some Lannisters and loyalists survived and they managed to kill a bunch of Dany’s men even though they lost what they went for, that is how Dany wins the battle but still takes a hit. Jamie was ready for an ambush and puts up a hell of a fight even though they “lose”.

My only response I could say about the banners are the Lannisters were in marching status with food and supplies taken from the sacking of Highgarden. When you are running a train like march they use banners so people know who is coming and what not. I have proposed that the battle will cause many casualties on both sides of the field. Dany will eventually “win” because they take the field, they successfully get the food and supplies, and Dany and Drogon are still alive. Because they take the field, food, and supplies, that means there will be plenty of Lannister garb and banners left behind. Dany will win but will realize the loss of a lot of men. this is her first battlefield and will realize how tough it is and hate to see the death of so many.

I think that is why the term ambush is being used a lot. A battle means both sides see it coming, I don’t think the Lannister/Tarly army is aware that they will be attacked. there will be plenty of losses on either side without any main characters dying or being taken captive (besides the tarly’s). Dany wins cause she takes the supplies and field, Jamie loses because he lost the field and supplies. Moral victory for Lannisters because they kill a lot of Dany’s men, and hold off a dragon. Moral loss for Dany because her attack with Drogon didn’t go as planned and she is sickened by the amount of people that die for her side even in a “win”. Make sense?

Anyway, then you had the season finale, with Jaime arriving in seeing first hand that Cersei had done the same thing he gave up his honor to prevent, and now I am , once again, asked to lose more time on that shit? I am sorry, I am not invested.

Jon, for instance, will have to wait a bit longer to know who his mama is. But I guess this is okay, dramatically speaking, because he asked this question on first season, and he is only getting the answer on the last. Simetry!

I am still on the other side of the fence about her landing on Dragonstone. It is smart. And since we know about Cersei using Dragonfire and Tyrion has used it before it does not make sense to attack Kings Landing until a better plan is formed so the Dragonfire doesn’t get used on her army. So it is 100% not smart to go straight to Kings Landing. If not Kings Landing or Dragonstone then where? Dorne is to far away from the areas that need controlled to take over the Iron Throne. Storms End at this point in history has never been successfully taken, Kings Landing is not smart I have stated why. Going around to take Lannisport and Casterly Rock is boring for the story. The next closest is Dragonstone and it is symbolic for Dany. She sure as hell isn’t going to White Harbor lol

Dany is thinking of a hostage rescue plan. basically keeping the people away from the fighting and defeating the Lannisters outside of Kings Landing is the best hostage rescuing plan. You can’t move a million people. You have to liberate them. That is the hostage rescue plan.

lastly, she probably is a hopeless military commander. Most of the newly made commanders struggle starting off. Tyrion had a plan but not much after that plan. He would have been killed if not for his dad. Jon Snow got lucky that Davos ordered the calvary charge or he would have been smoked. Dany has not had a legit fight on her hands yet. Every fight she is around is an ambush. So yeah, I can see her struggle at first as a commander. But all the rhetoric about her landing on dragonstone being stupid is getting old because you seem very realistic in your history. How can her army go straight to kings landing after sailing for two months straight to a place that tyrion knows about dragon fire. That is stupid. So instead of saying it is dumb for her to go Dragonstone, I feel I have proven she shouldn’t go straight to Kings Landing where do you think they should land?

Yes, we as the viewer would think the people of Westeros will hate Cersei but it is not the world that GRRM created. They still have the Lannister army where the show has made the biggest in Westeros. They have the Reach minus the Tyrell’s because of the Tarly’s. They have Westerlands, They have some Storm lands because Cersei’s kids are baratheon’s, they have Euron’s Ironborn as well. The Lannister’s have men, plenty of them. Just have to weed through it all.

It seems though the show is going with letting her loosen the reins on her own planning though and letting Tyrion take up the reins instead since he is experienced with Westeros and she’s not. Like it showed at the end of last season, she listened to his military advice instead of making her own plan. Tyrion probably just didn’t realize his brother would be a better military strategist than him.

What legit spoilers? They are commenting on the pictures. In which there are way more dead Lannisters than Dothraki. No dead Dragon either that you’ve been talking about. Your basing all your stuff off of the stupid banners on a wagon when everyone is just standing around. Why would Jon Snow you straight white hero want Dany if she is routed by the Lannisters and her Dragons are dead etc? Literally everything that has been posted here has backed up lads. Ill believe him over some fanboys.

If that’s what you think, you’re misinterpreting our “legit spoilers”, at least partly. Of course Dany will face adversity. Duh. But she won’t be losing.

I expect since Dany and Cersei are meeting to parlay – that they are at a draw and neither has won. Rather both have suffered losses at that point. It wouldn’t be much of a story if Dany flew in and annihalated everyone easily. I know the show doesn’t have the luxury of time like the books do but the Dothraki should be somewhat weaker against the Lannisters given the new environment they are in. I know in the shots we’ve seen they have new armour – so going from fighting half naked to donning heavier armour would be an adjustment and put you at a disatvantage as your dexterity and speed would suffer wouldn’t it?

For the story, I see why it has to be a spectacle of a battle, but a battle without Jon Snow makes me feel,

Considering it’s a ensemble cast and they have tiers of importance characters and no actual main character, it’s natural that Jon isn’t going to be in every single battle. Jon is a good fighter but i’m looking forward to Nikolaj aka Jamie to take some of the spotlight considering we’ve seen him fight but not actually in a war before.

If the idiot of Daenerys does not lose then what emotion has this garbage of season?, Always wins the queen / stupid goddess, nothing interesting happens.

Yes, of course, I realize it is an ensemble. All I’m saying is that after 6 seasons, pretty much the only character I’m emotionally invested in is Jon. So when I read these tidbits from Spain having to do with the ambush battle, I want to be super excited, but I’m kinda not. That’s just my opinion. One fan’s opinion that I’m sharing because maybe someone else out there is feeling like I do.

Looking at all those ‘corpses’ I can just imagine Jon screaming, “Well there’s more wights if the NK comes South of the Wall, you idiots!” I don’t think Dany or Cersei will be a clear frontrunner by the time it comes to the parlay in the dragon pit. It’ll just be the case that the former will know for certain that them fighting and killing each other’s troops is only playing into the hands of the White Walkers.

Regarding Jaime, I get the frustration with his show arc. I’ve not always been best pleased with how things have played out on-screen either. Having said that, taking the leaks into consideration, there’s every chance this is going to be HIS season. Nikolaj has certainly been filming a lot already. I can’t wait!

Just two notes. 1) I doubt that Dany will take any of supplies, because we see all wagons burned into ashes along with whatever they carried. 2) The Lannister banners should have burned along with the wagons, and if we see clean Lannister banners on the field, they should be fresh Lannister banners brought in by some reserve/reinforcement troops which didn’t take part in the battle. Of course, we can assume that the showrunners may be simply saving the Lannister banners for future use and they will be stained during the post production, but those clean banners look strange and out of place…

Though on the other hand it doesn’t matter really: we all kind of agree that the ultimate result will be stalemate leading to a parlay and luckily there will be the WW coming in to unite most of the more or less reasonable people.

As for Dany’s landing spot, I have never said that she should have gone straight to KL, but there were three options: Dorne, the Reach, and the northern coast of the Sea of Dorne. Any of thee have ensured timely support for allies, but as everyone is wise post factum, I just want a reasonable explanation of landing on Dragonstone and/or the initial plan of the campaign. Maybe Ollena and the Sand Snakes were simply not willing to feed all those Dothraki hordes and turned Dany to Dragonstone themselves (I would be pretty happy with such explanation, BTW, because I don’t want Dany to be bashed as a careless commander, or a potential villain, or Hitler in Munich, or whatever).

And yes, Clob, I am afraid that the showrunners might be trying to make drama for the sake of drama and without a proper reasoning. But I hope all my worries will be cleared after the season airs.

I totally feel the same way, and it’s funny to me. I didn’t realize how much I depend on Jon Snow to care about the big battles. Even Battle of Blackwater Bay kind of pales in comparison because of it.

That’s fair enough, we all have our own characters we are emotionally vested in.

The reason i’m looking forward to this battle though is as much as I love Jon his had the spotlight with his full on battles long enough, the other characters deserved theirs.

They cut us seeing S1 & S2 battle against the Northerners and Lannisters, we didn’t see Stannis war against the Bolton’s, We didn’t see much of the Iron Born taking the North with the exception of Winterfell, We didn’t see any actual fighting at the Blackfish, Yunkai seige was shortened to one small fight scene, Mereen Civil Rebellion was Shortened, Dany and Co fighting the masters and freeing all slaves even though it’s been her whole story for 6 seasons was severely shortened as well.

I totally get you. I like a lot of characters on the show, but I’m invested in Jon the most and it helps that he’s been in the endgame story from the beginning and when he’s achieved something it was realistic and always at a huge cost. I know he is one of the characters with plot armor, but somehow he always makes me worry about his fate lol (which I don’t get with some of the others…the suspense is missing in the story). Last season I honestly didn’t care about any of the storylines except his and Bran’s. Fortunately, Jaime’s looks promising this time around.

The Dothraki standing around don’t seem to have any weapons in these pictures. Also, where are their horses?

There’s something to think about when it comes to which side “wins” this battle…

There have been all kinds of discussions regarding Jaime, his transition to the ‘good side,” he’s a protagonist, he’s a fan favorite, etc. Here we are now in a battle between Jaime and another, a main character with just as much fandom hope behind her if not more. The story is steaming in the direction of Daenerys being A victor in some fashion. However, it’s also indicating that Jaime is a major factor in the endgame as well. Having him completely destroyed, utterly defeated and humiliated in this battle would lessen his character for things to come. I think he needs to appear strong and worthy for his part in the final events. His actions in this ambush scene may be the last opportunity for them to portray that strength… It may very well end up being a reason why they film/write it in such a way that there is no clear victor.

Considering it’s a ensemble cast and they have tiers of importance characters and no actual main character, it’s natural that Jon isn’t going to be in every single battle. Jon is a good fighter but i’m looking forward to Nikolaj aka Jamie to take some of the spotlight considering we’ve seen him fight but not actually in a war before.

Have to say that I will find it strange watching a big battle scene without Jon – he has had three large-scale action sequences in the last three seasons (in

) – and all three of those sequences were shot with Jon as the central character we were following. All three were spectacular set-pieces and so emotional to watch in very different ways. The last battle episode we saw that didn’t include Jon was

. So yeah, it will be a bit strange – but at the same time good that we will have an opportunity to see other characters in this way. And good that we will perhaps then get to see other sides of Jon himself.

I am really excited that we will finally get to see Jaime in action. Riverrun was a siege that ended without any real fighting and while we have seen Jaime fight before, we haven’t seen him in battle – the closest we came was Whispering Wood in season one, but all we really saw was Robb showing him off as a captive after the battle had finished. I’m looking forward to Jaime’s arc in season seven; that look he gave Cersei at the end of 610 says that even if he is fighting for her this season, what happened in that episode crossed a line.

Well, I feel the exact opposite, I am glad we’ll have a big battle/sequence which he won’t be in. There are other major characters that deserve their time in a huge sequence as well, and mainly I am also glad that we’ll have a big sequence/battle that’s not in the North since S2.

Even though it seems like Jaime will still be on Cersei’s side for most of the next season, I’m still hella excited to watch him . His last 2 seasons were so underwhelming imho (with few exceptions like scene with Edmure and Brienne last season), and from what we have seen so far for S7 his season will be packed, with emotional/drama scenes (with Olenna) big action (ambush) and what more (dragonpit). It will feel like he’s one of the major characters again, having his own importance.

You shouldn’t make the assumption that people who hate Jon are Dany fans.

I’ve seen plenty of people who dislike both Jon and Dany and think of them both as overrated, there are a lot of different kinds of fans like Littlefinger fans, Cersei fans, Stannis fans, Ramsay fans etc people like what they like and dislike who they want it doesn’t always have to do with a competition between Jon and Dany.

There are not many characters I dislike but my personal faves are Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Jorah, Jamie and Davos. Never really liked Stannis though to be honest.

While people I know who watch GOT say they loved Stannis, thought Jon was the most boring character on the show, don’t give a shit about Dany and all her bloody slaves, think Jorah is a pathetic creepy old man, think Jamie is a pathetic loser, think Davos is a dumbass, think Cersei deserves to be Queen etc

Everyone has their own opinions on who they like and dislike, it’s wrong for any of us to stereotype one group of fans for some of them thinking one way that is different to others and making assumptions that if they don’t like a certain character that their obviously a certain fan of another character.

That’s the thing about the show how rich and complex the characters are that some we might consider villians appeal to different people in the audience who consider them more interesting than the characters with more straight cut morals.

Jaime is not a treacherous rat who would leave a sinking boat. He is exactly the opposite, so he must have his boat still on the float to be compelled to change its course. Just like with Riverrun: Jaime was ready to do anything to beat the Blackfish; he was shattered only after that good-for-nothing Walder Frey took a seat next to him and said “Here we are – two king slayers”. And that made Jaime want to be something different and provoked that look he gave to Cersei in 610. But (leaks)

However, if he managed to win the battle against all odds, it would boost his confidence, win him affection of his soldiers and people in general, and that may be pivotal, because IMO that would make Cersei to see him as a potential rival and competitor and that might drive a wedge between them etc.

Hence, character-wise it might be reasonable to make Jaime a victor and Dany should go through some major downfall too before she fully embraces her role of a savior, not a conqueror. And therefore, the result of the ambush-battle becomes the most unpredictable in GoT, because this time it’s really not clear who should win to push the story in the right direction.

I guess you missed all those comments by a few Dany fans, (on this very site and others) who liked to allege that all Dany hate came from insecure Jon fans who could not stand to acknowledge her importance? I would say even this falls under “putting all fans of a character in one tiny box” .

You get me wrong – again. I have never said that Dany will be totally defeated and turned into ash: she will be the force to be reckoned with even, if she loses her Westerosi allies and a substantial part of her own troops; she even can afford losing one or even two of her dragons. Moreover, according to the spoilers

her forces will manage to sack Casterly Rock

and that could be a major game-changer as Priscila rightfully pointed out. So, the overall score by the end of the season will be 1:1 or 2:2 (keeping the Riverlands in mind), which will bring both parties to the parlay etc. But the problem is that in 610 Dany was shown as if leading the entire US navy against some looser Hussein, and if the victorious blitzkrieg that was promised is not happening, IMO we have some right to look for potential reasons.
