wasn\'t among the most exciting of the season, it did forward a lot of action and hit some incredibly satisfying notes. One of those notes involved Jaime Lannister meeting up with Brienne of Tarth for the first time in a long while. The meeting included an awkward conversation between the two flirtatious fighters about who would be keeping the Valyrian steel sword that Jaime initially gave Brienne to complete her mission to find Sansa. As it turns out, that\'s a moment that actor Nikolag Coster-Waldau is pretty sure Jaime is going to regret. Here\'s what he had to say in a recent interview about the episode:
I\'m sure the writers already planned that years ago. This was his moment. Just take the sword back! I was like, \'Just take it. Take it! You know it\'s going to come back and haunt you.\'
Speaking with TV Line about the moment when Jaime refused to take the sword back from Brienne, the actor admits that it may not have been the best move Jaime could have made. While he\'s making light of the moment in the interview, he does have a point. In the episode, Brienne also loudly asserted that if the negotiations went badly and there was a battle at Riverrun, she would be compelled to choose the Tully side and fight in Sansa Stark\'s name. If she had to kill Jaime in that process with his own sword, she totally would have.
Luckily, it didn\'t come to that. Instead, Jaime concocted a plan to get Edmure Tully back into the castle. Edmure is a known wimp, and he was bullied by Jaime into giving up the castle once he got in and could command his men. It looks as if there was little bloodshed, other than the Blackfish, who was stated to have gone out fighting in the castle. Jaime and Pod were able to hightail out of there on a rowboat before they were found by Jaime and his men, so any question of a swordfight between Jaime and Brienne has been put on hold for now.
If it does come to a swordfight, Jaime is at a severe disadvantage, having lost his hand some seasons earlier. So far, he\'s mostly been able to be strategic and avoid hand-to-hand combat, but Nikolaj Coster-Waldau says Jaime knows that if he must face Lady Brienne, it\'s probably not going to end well for him.
There\'s no question that if it comes to that, they\'ll both do it. And obviously she\'s going to kill him in an instant.
I have no idea if the show will figure out a way for the two characters to meet once more, but they have so much chemistry together that I sure hope so. I also hope it will be a battle of the wits rather than a battle with swords. If not, Jaime Lannister will surely be regretting his benevolence with the sword this past episode.
