I do believe that the Beast wouldn't be as possessive as some others. I think he respected Belle's feelings, the best example of it that he let her go when her father was ill. In the end of the movie, it wasn't that Beast that in the beginning. His first aim was to become human, and he didn't know, understand, that it's not so easy - to prison a pretty girl, to force her to dine with you, and you're a handsome man again, no, and only after "Something Where" (or a little earlier) he began to realize that he loved, and his behaviour changed, it's opposite to his "possessive things" in the beginning. Well, just IMO.

Ya he was huge jerk when he was the a beast! Also he was rude when he was human.

It's a good point about Beast letting Belle go, and what it showed about his change, there are some of the other princes I definitely think wouldn't have done that. The reason I still picked him is that he even had to 'let' her go. Most of the other princesses wouldn't be in a position to need permission in the first place. I can't imagine someone like Mulan, Pocahontas, Ariel or Jasmine thinking of needing permission if they truly wanted to leave their partner. I do think Beast changed for the better, and since this is Disney we can assume he was lovely the rest of their lives, but I think there were more signs of him being controlling than some of the other princes and we didn't spend enough time with him after he'd changed to prove they were gone. Neither of these are who would come top of my list personally, but out of the two I think Beast, even though he makes me laugh :)

Just because Beast was possessive at the start, it doesn't mean he's gonna be possessive now. I thought the whole point of the movie was to not judge a book by it's cover and your first perception of someone can easily change. That's what he did: he changed. That being said, I still see Beast ('Adam') being a little more possessive than John Smith. I don't think either should be #1 though, but meh.

@ppv: But it's because he was sorry that he upset her by ignorantly insulting her people. That is the ONLY instance of him being in any way possessive- one line. Beast showed a bit more possessiveness than that.

Like I've said before, John respected Pocahontas and her people for the most part of the movie (he insulted them by accident- like I said, ignorance). He knew Pocahontas was a free spirit and didn't try to control her. He even went against his own people. Also, he didn't try to get her to come with him to England- he just asked once, and then realized that Poca really was needed there. I'm not sure that Beast would have been able to do the same.

John always came off a little more arrogant and almost well....like he would make anyone do what he said because he knew better? I dont know if you noticed it but that sure bugged me...I dont think Adam would be controlling ANYMORE simply because he...well he did change and you can tell he is completly in love with Belle....I doubt he would really boss her around especially after all they went through.
John on the other hand just seems like he thinks he knows it all...im sorry but he does to me.
