As some of you know I've been really bipolar with Rapunzel lately. She's gone from 1st to 6th in about a month because I'm starting to see more and more the Mary-Sueness of her and how much that reminds me of Belle. Belle is my least favorite, so I'm honestly being bias right now probably, but I do think Belle is more the Mary-Sue. Rapunzel, while lacking flaws, is someone I wouldn't necessarily call perfect, while Belle is very much more so in my opinion. Rapunzel has quirks, flaws, and seems more real than Belle, which Belle just seems to be given every trait (sass, wit, adventurous, kind, caring, ect.) that would make a perfect character.

Belle doesn't suck up to anyone, she is super stubborn. I can't see at all how she is a mary-sue.

Rapunzel tried to impress her mother her whole life, like I don't care if she was abused but she always tries to get on another's good side.

I don't think trying to impress people makes you a Mary-Sue, if anything it displays her insecurity and shows how she's not a Mary-Sue.

Belle has hurts and dreams that get broken as well as a bit of a temper. She isn't always cheerful, she doesn't end up taking out the villain.

Rapunzel leaves, falls in love, finds her parents, saves Flynn, AND gets many enemies in a mere three days!!!! HOW THE HECK IS THAT NOT MARY-SUE?! Sorry. But I see Punz as the MOST mary sue ever

I have accused both of being close to being Mary-Sues, since they are always seen as right, makes no mistakes and when they do something wrong, it is seen as right, no one outright dislikes them, and has no flaw rubbed into our faces, or that is SUPPOSED to be defined. Both are too perfect.

I think Rapunzel is closer, because she is somehow loved by everyone (specifically look at the incident in the pub), even though she has spent her whole life locked up in a tower with only Gothel to talk to. It just seems so unrealistic to me. Belle is not universally loved by the townfolk; they think she is strange, and that to me is far more realistic.

dclair- Being a mary-sue is someone who is perfect, and is also aware of that perfection, while also sucking up to people. That's basically Rapunzel

Even though they are the closest to being Mary-Sues, I don't think either are too perfect... you could argue that about all the DPs, well except maybe Ariel and Merida.

Though I pick Rapunzel because she never does anything wrong, everyone in the movie likes her (even the villain) and she's INCREDIBLY multitalented.

Definitely. I'm reading a character analysis of each DP in deviant art and the Rapunzel one made me realize that there are so many things wrong with her.

I don't think Belle is a Mary-Sue, since she does make mistakes (e. g. Goes to the West Wing, shows the Beast to Gaston, etc).

I guess, Belle seems like "that perfect character that everyone loves". Her looks, the way she walks, talks, she just seems like that perfect character. Rapunzel I say is a mary sue as well, but I just feel like Belle is more. My opinions might change if I watch the full movie though.

That's one of the reasons why I don't really like her. Everyone thinks she's the "perfect girl".

I don't think either of them are Mary-Sues, but Belle is more so, as much as it pains me to admit it.

^ I know, it is a bit too much. It is just that I joined RIGHT after she stopped being that active, and everyone always talks about her, and I have read her stuff. I like witty people.

I actually made a decision. I think Rapunzel is closer to one because she has been isolated for 18 years, only speaking to Gothel, but it has little to no affect on her and how she socializes. She has a lack of flaws for someone who grew up in such a dense atmosphere. Everybody likes her and she never has to work on her relationships. She has A WHOLE LOT of talents and she overall comes off as too unrealistic.

At least Belle is stubborn and seems more of a realistic person.

By a lot. She comes across as being annoyingly perfect and loved by all, much more so than Belle (who is actually a social outcast in her village).
