Captain Teague is the father of Jack Sparrow, so why are their surnames different? Is there anything in his back story to explain this?

Actually, Jack's last name is in fact Teague. Jackson Edward Teague is his real name. Though, as 당신 may already know, Jack isn't too fond of Teague, and 당신 can't have TWO Captain Teagues. So, to avoid association with his dad, he personally goes 의해 Sparrow. It makes sense if 당신 think about it.

actualy, im pretty sure that teague is only "theoreticaly" his father. i mean when has he actualy admited they were related? did i miss a scean 또는 something?!? other than that fact that they dress alike and talk alike there realy is no evidence that says they are related....other than that "how's mum" part.

One. In the 책 Pirates of the Carribbean: Jack Sparrow Jack refers to Teague as might-be-father.
Two. They're pirates! So of course there's no legal marriage between Teague and Jack's dead mother.
So.... Either Jack uses his mother's name 또는 Sparrow is his OWN devision. Incidentally, Sparrow is a 제목 that was given to a sailor who had sailed in all seven seas (and as Jackie grew up on Teague's ship, he just might have done that before his teens).

Have none of 당신 played close attention to At Worlds End?
If any of had payed attention Jack walks up to Captain Teague and says. "How's mom?" And Teague proceeds to hold up the shrunken head of jacks mothers. I find this scene to be quite odd and I'm questioning the vulgarbility of it being in a 디즈니 channel kids movie.
But anyway. Yes captain Teague is in fact his father. I will also pick the answer that is correct besides my own. Lol

Ok, basically at a younger age jack didn't get along with teague so he, possibly when he ran away from home, he took up a nome de Guerre: sparrow-meaning someone who has sailed everything in the ocean! And this disassociated him from teague which he regretted a bit later on in life but at the time thought it was a good idea!

The name Sparrow is a nickname given to him 의해 Captain Salazar because when Jack was young and faced him and he was really high up and just mocking and taunting him and plus he did a lot of moving. Salazar said he looked like a little bird and from that point on he earned a name that would haunt him forever “Jack the Sparrow”.
