How does Appa have descendants? How was he able to reproduce?

I haven't watched the latest few episodes of LoK (giving up on that show out of despair, especially since I'm currently re-watching ATLA and can compare the two, making LoK's lack of awesomeness stand out even more, but that's besides the point), so I don't know if it's recently been explained, but if it has can someone tell me? If it hasn't, then does anyone have a plausible theory? Because I can't come up with one, other than a female 바이슨, 들소 somehow surviving the 불, 화재 nation attack.

Maybe since there were so few, they didn't fly away from the island and had a smaller 집 range to stay close to their mates?

LoK writers just needed a way to have 더 많이 in the plot so they just made up an easy undetailed story.
