Ariana Grande-Butera[1][2] (born June 26, 1993),[3][4] known professionally as Ariana Grande, is an American actress and singer-songwriter. She grew up in Boca Raton, Florida where she attended North Broward Preparatory School. Grande made her acting debut in 2008, playing the role of Charlotte in 13 on Broadway. From 2010 to 2013, she played Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious and reprised the role on the spinoff Sam & Cat (2013–14).[5]

In March 2013, Grande reached mainstream success after "The Way" from her debut studio album, Yours Truly (2013), became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA.[6][7][8] The album received critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. This made Grande the first female artist to have her debut record enter the chart in the pole position since Animal by Kesha in January 2010, and the fifteenth female artist overall.[9][10] Later, Grande was honored by The Music Business Association in 2014 as Breakthrough Artist of the Year, to recognize Grande's achievements over 2013.[11]
Ariana Grande-Butera was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida. She is the daughter of Joan Grande, CEO of Hose-McCann Communications,[12][13] and Edward Butera, a graphic designer.[14] Her elder half-brother Frankie is an actor, dancer and producer, and a contestant on season sixteen of Big Brother.[15][16] She is of Italian descent, "half Sicilian and half Abruzzese."[17][18][19] Growing up, she took part in children's and community theater and attended North Broward Preparatory School.[20][21]
Grande dated her 13 co-star Graham Phillips for three years, starting in 2008 and ending in December 2011.[citation needed] She was in a relationship with Jai Brooks, a member of the Australian YouTube group the Janoskians, from August 2012 to July 2013.[101][102][103] On May 1, 2014, Grande was photographed kissing Brooks and confirmed that they were back together.[104]

Grande is a vegan and has adopted three dogs.[105][106] She was raised a Roman Catholic but abandoned Christianity after Pope Benedict reportedly labeled homosexuality and working women as sins.[107] Grande stated, "I lost faith when the Pope decided to tell me that everything I loved and believed in was wrong. I needed something else to believe in." She has since started following Kabbalah's teachings, believing "the basis lies in the idea that if you’re kind to others, good things will happen to you."[108][109].
