I think both are really good, though with FMA, I would recommend Brotherhood over the original.

I haven't seen either, but I hear better things about FMA..

From what I've seen, they are both worth watching. WARNING: FMA stops following the manga about middle of the series (when they meet their teacher). Brotherhood, from what I can tell, follows the manga almost to a T. It does have a better ending, but I suggest watching both. FMA spends a lot more time with the first part of the show than Brotherhood because FMA:B figures its audience has already watched the first series. You get to know certain characters better and it goes more in depth.
