LOLerz: How so? They wanted to kill each other, say they are pretty much enemies.

They're more fitting in that category for me at least. Plus, when I was searching for any ideas on best rivals, L and Light were on every list. But then again, it's rather subjective so it doesn't really matter.

I see rivals as people who just want to beat each other (in a race or contest) or be better then the other. Enemies are the ones who want to stop the others plan or harm the other in anyway.
