As a recording artist, Gomez has sold more than 22 million singles worldwide, and her new album
debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. She will embark on a global tour next year.
You realize she was famous before dating Justin Bieber right?
That's honestly extremely disgusting to say that she's only famous for being Justin's girlfriend. She was in...

. Gomez is repped by WME, Brillstein and Ziffren Brittenham; Yorkey by WME and Anonymous; Laiblin by attorney Lev Ginsburg.

Netflix is blowing it by abandoning their HBO-like quality for Network trash.
Netflix has to appeal to EVERYONE not just the artsy HBO crowd, they have to appeal to a 10 year old as well as a 80 year old and everyone in between, HBO appeals to a narrow group of viewers.
HBO quality? House of Cards is a network soap opera with a bigger budget and nudity. It’s Empire featuring white people.
There is no way Empire competes with House of Cards as far as quality, and I haven’t seen any nudity on H of C. They might show a flash of butt but that’s it, not explicit at all.
Tons of boobs — I can recall one topless lesbian scene off the top of my head. And let’s not forget Robin Wright performing a sexual act on a dying man in his hospital room. Kevin Spacey pushing Kate Mara in front of a metro train. Sorry, but it’s a glorified soap opera. Anonymous is on the money.
Netflix is not trying to be HBO, how many times have they stated their goal is to have original programming for every niche and demographic? If you don’t like it don’t watch it, but it’s a smart move for Netflix and they are really wanting to attract a teen audience as well. So if it’s not for you in the first place why do you care?
Not with this. A mini series based on a best selling booking, that hasn’t even went in to production yet for anyone to judge. People love to be bitter and complain for some odd reason. And no one is forcing you to watch. That’s the beauty of Netfilx…
The book is incredibly impressive. As a producer, I aggressively pursued it because it has the opportunity to be the defining series about suicide for an entire generation. You’re comment is quite ignorant.
I agree with you AP. It’s disgusting when people are bitter about someone’s success. Especially a young woman’s success. I applaud Selena for being so dedicated to this project.
So…this will be a TV “series” not a big screen movie? Or will it be a TV mini-series, as in a long movie, which are usually broken up into 3 or so episodes?
+Ulysses:I think tv mini series that was the last thing I read on Facebook but then again there are only 13 reasons why Hannah killed herself so the tv mini series would only tell Hannah’s story with 13 epsoides(all flashbacks). So Iam
Pretty sure the tv mini series will not go past 13 epsoides unless it starts out with Hannah alive then going through the 13 reasons why in the book, then recording the tapes of her 13 reasons she killed herself before she finally ends up killing herself to make the mini series have more epsoides. But other than that it might have only 13 epsoides for 13 reasons why.
Is this is supposed to be an insult? I guess you are unaware of the award winning quality material the been producing as of late. Lol. So yes she should star in it!
Learn to read. I consider Netflix programming to be quality. And the material on which the show will based on is really good that’s why I said she should star in it. She won’t be getting opportunities like that in movies. Get it, Selena!
This is a truly great book, but I was expecting a movie. How the heck do they turn this into a series????? Oh well.
Maybe a 13 episode mini series? Each story is basically one side of a tape.
Not the quality of programming I expect from a Netflix original series.
I don’t get the whole Selena Gomez appeal other than she became famous as Justin’s girlfriend.
lol she has been famous before him and acting. just cause you are old doesnt mean others dont know who she is
Eh. She got famous on her own. She’s basically another one of the creations of Disney and made her own mark too.
That’s because you’re an idiot. She was famous for wizards of Waverly place and was /and still is a bigger star than the baby singer.
She’s been acting loooong before being Justin’s girlfriend. Did you really forget about the Wizards of Waverly Place? Our generation is pretty much the first to have children grow up as stars and remain that way. It’s actually amazing.
She has been in the business since she was a little tot. Selena started out on Barney in 2002 and had a cameo in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003 I think and Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire in 2005. Selena’s big break though, was thanks to Wizards of Waverly Place that began in 2006. Justin didn’t make her famous.
That’s honestly extremely disgusting to say that she’s only famous for being Justin’s girlfriend. She was in a 3 time Emmy winning series, worked with Grammy winners in her music, produced hit after hit (4 out of 5 of her solo singles charted in the Top 20). Both of her solo albums debuted at #1.
She’s famous because she knows what she’s doing.
I’m so glad she’s not in it! I love this book and would like decent actors to be in the onscreen version.
I don’t know why a lot of you are talking trash about this going on Netflix, saying, “Netflix is supposed to do this, and that!” First of all they can do whatever they damn well please as far as I’m concerned. It’s just like cable tv, they have shows and movies on there that appeal to everyone. “Netflix has to appeal to everyone, not just the HBO crowd.” Netflix doesn’t HAVE to do anything! As I said before, they do appeal to everyone and they have shows and movies that appeal to everyone.
Now, I am a HUGE 13 Reasons Why fan, I’ve read the book multiple times and I love it! I’ve been waiting on a movie or a tv show to come out since I read the book the very first time. So, I’m happy that they are making something! So what if it’s going to Netflix! It’s just like it being on a cable tv show/movie.
All I’m saying is, get over it. Netflix appeals to a variety of people. 👌🏼 k, thanks! Have a good day!
I hope in series form they will have the suicidal character take some responsibility for her choice to end her life and not just have her justify it by blaming everyone else.
I don’t know you, but I’m imagining you probably stopped reading the book after the first chapter, or read the book and hated it…or didn’t read the book at all, just the synopsis/summary. I didn’t get what you got from the book at all. Hannah is incredibly self-deprecating, and even admits that she’s “giving up” a few times. She also makes a point of saying “she could have stopped” select events mentioned in the book. She never seems to directly blame anyone for “causing” her to kill herself; rather, she merely reminds people of what their seemingly harmless (in their own eyes) choices can cause in the lives of others…even indirectly. The whole point of the story is to bring awareness to the fact that every one of your actions matters. It also shines a light on the stigma re: suicide and teenage girls. That’s what I got out of the book, after reading it roughly fifteen times between the ages of 16 and 21 (my current age – I re-read the book this past Tuesday). If they aren’t going to directly follow the book itself, I’d love to see Hannah actually seek therapy outside of school and talk about it within the tapes. These are all just my thoughts, however, and they clearly differ from yours. I respect your opinion – I just thought I might offer a different insight on the breakdown of the character. I’m really excited about this series. Thanks!
I am excited for her, I’m glad that she’s taking on more projects and it’s obvious that she knows her material. “13 reasons why” is such a great book too, I remember when it was as popular as the Hunger Games back before they made films out of it. But I can only see this as targeting young female teens as the audience.
^actually Iam pretty sure it targets both girls and guys who are teens. Because guys and girls both have the tendency to relate to the book.
Selena Gomez is on fire! Her album is awesome and she has never looked or sounded better. Now she is taking after Reece Witherspoon and optioning her own material. Whoever is advising her is doing a great job! Good for her>
I’m glad she is making a name for herself and she is carrying out so many projects. She really needed to be single to focus solely on herself. I have never liked the idea of being famous by riding on someone else’s coattail. The split was necessary. God works in mysterious ways. Selena, you rock, girl.
I’ve come to give Netflix the benefit of the doubt with the projects they choose to take on. And I really like Brian Yorkey’s theater work. I think he’s s smart choice. Next to Nornal was great.
