You'd be surprised to know that Shoeshine is not actually Underdog's real name. That's his secret identity. His real name is actually Junior because he was named after his father who was killed in his car 의해 a train and his mother died of a broken heart. During a freak lightning storm, the future Underdog trailed the crook who happened to be a fraudulent dentist into a cave. But, the crook caused the cave to collapse and started pumping Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide) into the caves. A stray bolt flew into the caves and the combination of lightning and laughing gas caused an extreme pressure change that was enough to turn the coal in the cave into diamonds. Underdog underwent a similar change that granted him his powers. When he got out of the cave he didn't even have to use them to catch the crook because the dentist was so confident of being rid of him. I got his secret origins from a book called How Underdog Was Born (Link is in the description).
