are you kidding me what kind of question is that There is no comparison Katherine is older and stronger she is over 500 years old and has survived. Elena would be no match for her. Someone got confused with twilight new borns are different onVampire diaries.

Because she is older, stronger, and more experienced.

And just to point something out: I don't know about the show, but in the books, it made no difference whether you were a newborn or not. It didn't affect your strength and an older vampire could still take you, easily.
