I think that since Elena is back to how she was in Season 1 maybe they want the first scene to be her in front of her mirror. It could be a bit repetitive, but I don't know. When I read an interview to Julie Plec or Nina, I don't remember, well, someone said that Elena is back to how she was in the pilot, mourning, and I imagined Elena and her mirror being the first scene of Season 3.
Although it'd be TOTALLY cool if the first scene was naked bubbly Damon and Elena just staring him doooooooooooooown.
