Well, I love her portrayal of Elena and her portrayal of Katherine has improved a lot, so I don't think she's a bad actress, but as much as I love her now I will probably never forget how awful and wooden I found her performance in Lost girls! ;P

I'm not going to go with either. I don't think that she is a bad actress, but she isn't on par with some other actors in the show. She is getting better though so I'm sure that she was just getting used to the role and working out kinks.

i personally think she isn`t that bad..she plays two characters who are complete polar opposites and pulls it off. in general i find she's way better as katherine than elena,but..she's just believable to me and that`s a freaking fact. tbh,i thought she was a little stiff during the first few episodes,but..the fact that she improves with every episode is really significant.

I don't think she is a bad actress or a great one...really, I think it depends on the character she plays.

I like Elena, but the thing is, her character IS pretty dull, and sort of lacks a personality in genral. I've seen it happen before, when an actor/actress, who is actually good at acting, play a boring, dull character, and that makes them seem like they are bad at acting.

That's what I think is the case for Nina when she plays Elena. However, I think she is actually very decent at playing Katherine, who has a LOT more personality than Elena.

I remember when I used to watch Degrassi when I was younger and Nina played Mia Jones and I found her performance of the character really stiff and no personality. There was nothing to the character that she added and the storylines they presented were already really boring especially with that character. But still I thought maybe she could do something out of the character, but uh, she didn't. She made it worse.

So she came to play Elena and I was freaked that the show would be a wreck with her playing the lead. But I was pleasantly surprised. She wasn't stiff and I didn't feel as if she was insecure playing the role. Still, she isn't the greates actress but from my perspective she's far from bad. She plays Elena well and she gives the performance her all. She's improved significantly through the first season and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her acting. As Katherine she's allowed more personality through the script and she pulls it off nicely. I couldn't say she was my first choice actress for anything, but I disagree with the fact that she's a bad actress. I feel like in her performance she isn't slacking off, she's really giving her best and Elena's character has evolved so much and so has her acting.

Yes she obvioulsly a good actress.. For instance when she plays as elena she is strong willed etc. And then when she is Katherine... She plays the part, exciting, cheeky etc.etc.

I don't she sucks, but she's definitely not that good. She's pretty cool as Katherine, but I'm not that satisfied with Elena. Maybe you should have added a middle option.
But maybe she should have chosen modeling, because she really is beautiful.

Nina Dobrev is my favorite actress! and i like alot of actresses. she is a great actress! unlike most actors nowadays who only act because they are related to someone that was a great actor. where as she is just great! she can play any type of character i just love her sooo much!

I was going to say yes but then I remembered she is Katherine as well. I dont think she does a very good job of playing Elena. But to be able to switch from sweet and strong willed to evil and manipulative, you gotta have some skills. Props to Nina.
