Basically, the main reason I like Katniss is because she is a refreshingly realistic, flawed character. She is also rare in another way - Katniss is a well thought-out, well-written female character, rather than just being there to be a 사랑 intrest for a male hero (this might have somethig to do with the fact that Suzanne Collins herself is female).

The Hunger Games
In the first book, Katniss is motivated 의해 a need to get out of the Hunger Games alive. She manipulates Peeta, kills people, and runs on base instincts. What a 더 많이 typical (read: Mary-Sueish) character would have done would probably be very different from this - they would refuse to kill anyone, warn the girl who lit he 불, 화재 under the 나무, 트리 to put it out instead of letting the Careers kill her, brood constantly ov er the morality of their acts - and be completely unrealistic. I mean, if you were to be thrown into a kill-or-be-killed competition, survival and killing everyone else would almost certainly become priorities, because 당신 could never go 집 if there was anyone else left alive.

Catching Fire
Then, in the 초 book, Katniss, unlike your typical hero would be, is NOT motivated 의해 rebelling, at least not at the beginning. She is motivated 의해 keeping herself and her 프렌즈 alive, and who wouldn't be? After that, she is convinced to rebel, but it works because it fits with her personality. Finnally, in the Quater Quell, Katnss finnally makes a 더 많이 typical protagoist 옮기기 - she decides to keep Peeta alive even if it means her dieing. However, here's the catch - it also means all the OTHER tributes dieing. One thing I think is very realistic in Katniss's personality is how personal things are a hundred times 더 많이 important then everything else. As in, if she had to chose between her family and a thousand people she doesn't know dieing, she'd chose the thousand people without batting an eyelash. Well, okay, I'm exagerating, but 당신 get what I mean.

Mockingjay
의해 Mockingjay, Katniss's sanity begins to slip away. Even though some 팬 aren't happy about it, this is quite realistic and I enjoyed watchig (well, 읽기 about) this happen - it started subtly in Catching 불, 화재 and 의해 the end of Mockingjay 당신 can really see how the war has changed her.. Annie Cresta became insane after just one Hunger Games. Katniss has been through a lot more. Despite this, however, Suzanne Collins manages, unlike many other authors where character development is 더 많이 like character derailment, not to sacrife Katniss's core personality, keeping her recognisable as the character we were cheering for at the very beginning, rather than alienating her from us. Katniss's fireiness that I 사랑 is still there, and is what makes up her mind to assassinate Coin.

In the epilogue, it looks like she might actually be finding a way to cope with her life despite everything that has happened to her. Another thing I 사랑 about her is the way she Will. Not. Give. Up. Suzanne kept that as well. I chose the picture with Katniss and the quote for this part of the 기사 because I think the quote - "I kill Snow" - really sums up Katniss's drive in this book. Yes, I know she shot Coin instead of Snow in the end, but this way both Coin AND Snow died and she knew it. She would never again have had a chance to assaissinate Coin so easily, and 의해 that time she had figured out that Coin and Snow were not so different after all and she didn't want to put Panem out of the hads of one evil president and into those of another. Mockingjay is one of my favourite 책 의해 far, though I know the majority of the 팬 hated it, and one of the reasons for this is how Katniss develops during it.

Thumbs up, Girl on Fire.

Jay's costume is almost exactly like mine, but his scales are a soft golden color and the gauze fins down his spine are blue. His costume splits at his waist and, unlike mine, continues into knee-length pants. Our chariot has been decked out with festoons of seaweed-like cloth and shells of every type imaginable.

When we roll out along the pink-and-yellow road of the capitol, Our ears are assaulted 의해 applause and cheers. 어치, 제이 smiles his crooked smile, glances my way, and waves at the crowd, indicating I should do the same, so I do. Glancing at Jay, I realize that his smile is a little fixed....

I wake up suddenly, lying on the floor. I don't remember falling asleep, but at some point, I must've. I've been told that your brain processes things while 당신 sleep, and mine obviously has, because I know how I'm going to win the Hunger Games.

I rise from the floor and walk to the dresser. Ugly dress I'd never be caught dead in, something ruffles that couldn't flatter the figure of a supermodel... THERE. In the bottom of the closet, shoved to the back 의해 some Avox with no fashion sense, lies a pale green 셔츠 with matching leggings and skirt. The edges are still a little lacy for my taste,...

I hate the reapings in district 4. They hold them on a makeshift stage near the docks. Always at the crack of dawn. And because the sea faces east, we have to squint into the rising sun to see the platform. The glass reaping ball is erected in the center of the stage, casting its shadow into the crowd below.

Ah, there she is. Bubbly and neon-colored as usual, Tabbie Crankshat bounds up onto the platform. Fashionably late, as always.

“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be EVER in your favor!” she warbles in the thick...
