Title: Until You Get It Right

Rating: T (paranoia again)

Type: Fanfictionnnnn like all mine are.

Characters: Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Nico di Angelo, Leo Valdez, Tartarus "Tartar Sauce", and more...

Summary: Percy wakes up in a totally strange dimension, unlike any he has been in before.
First: he can’t remember how he got here.
Second: a big part of his life is missing. his head gets fuzzy, and it all seems fake.
Third: no one remembers him. He doesn’t exist.
Fourth: someone from his past life is missing everytime. It has always been like this.
Fifth: he accepts this crazy wacked up idea to be his reality.
Someone from his past life is missing each time. And they affect the rest of his life.
Of course, the only people that know the truth won’t say anything.
Percy Jackson is 12 years old.
He lives at a place called Camp Half-Blood.
The leader, Chiron, has always been there since Percy stumbled in with two other demigods five years ago.
But his teacher suddenly gains a hard heart, and he is no longer talking to Percy.
Why? Percy wants to find out.
His reality is totally different from what you would expect- everything isn’t how it should be.
That is, until a new camper his age stumbles into camp, their mother killed in a fatal car accident just up the road.
Percy wants to help so badly, it’s almost killing him.
But this camper takes some other people.
Percy, not wanting to miss the action, hijacks their ride and follows them. When he is discovered, they reluctantly let him come.
But something in his mind tells him this isn’t right...
Especially since he gets the same warning everytime he shuts his eyes.
You should not be here. You shouldn’t even be alive.

Part 3: It's Just Reset (Chapter 6-?)

Disclaimer: All Characters belong to Rick Riordan. I own plot.
Credit: I actually had this idea after I read the book 'Mercy' by Rebecca Lim. It's awesome! Also, 'Maximum Ride' by James Patterson helped me be inspired to have this :D

[A/N- This is not a betrayed/whatever you want to call it forum. This is like a demented nightmare/reality of Percy Jackson.]

Chapter 1
Execution
Percy

In a world so dark and cold....
A figure emerges from blackness.
“Perseus Jackson.” says a robotic like voice. “You should not be here.”
“So?” the figure in chains hisses. “Who says I care anymore?”
The guard looks around, and leans down on the figure. “Chill, Percy. It’s me, Nico.”
Percy glares at the guard. “You should be with the others. Safe.”
“I couldn’t let you do this.” the other one protests. “Once they have you, there is no turning back.”

Percy closes his eyes, and walks right past his younger cousin.
“I have to do it Nico.” He says softly.
“You have a choice!” the other protests.
“Not anymore.” the one in chains mutters. “I can no longer choose.”

Two other guards appear, and the one hijacking a guard jumps away and leaps into the shadows.
He vanishes in the blink of an eye.
The other one is taken deeper into the darkened chamber.

Eleven people surround him, their eyes like ice.
“Perseus Jackson.” the one on the largest throne says. “You have broken an oath far greater than our power.”
The boy doesn’t say anything.

“Therefore,” the figure continues. “We have given the right of your spirit to another owner. You will serve them. Next.”
Not even caring that he has just ruined this seventeen year old’s life, he bats him away with the blink of an eye.
No one else contradicts the master. No one dares to. They are too scared to try.

More guards appear, and the boy makes no attempt to stop them from placing him in a cold stone chamber.
“Prisoner 13137,” a droned robot walks into the room. “You have been exiled from Olympus for accused felony. You will wait here until your new master comes to collect you.”
It leaves, and the boy slumps to the floor.

He hopes, and prays to whatever guardian angel out there for him that all his friends are safe.
He shuts his eyes, emitting silent screams.
It is dark. And tortuous- the walls feel like they are moving. Getting smaller. They are going to crush him.
Closing off his mind- he thinks of his friends and family he has just saved.

In a world so dark and cold...
the gods of power do not care
that their children suffer in enclosed cages
silent screams echo through the walls
these children lay lost and forgotten
and wander like sheep into the lion’s mouth.

Frank. Hazel. Jason. Thalia. Nico. Piper. Leo.
How he will miss Jason’s rants about dirty socks, and Leo talking about things he wants to build when it is safe to join the world again.
Piper, and her obsession with not wearing anything pretty, or ever putting on makeup.
Hazel, and her sad golden eyes watching Percy walk off alone.
Frank, and his funny comments about how he can’t enjoy ice cream like all the others.
Nico, the shy kid who used to play Mythomagic and now listens to Screamo.
Thalia, and their little spats and her revulsion to Leo.
He chokes back from crying. He will not give these pathetic robotic guards the satisfaction of breaking him.
He wishes he had his horse- Blackjack.
He compares himself to a stubborn horse- untrainable and is not easily broken.

Something beeps softly next to him.
He thinks of home- where his mother, and Paul are safe, with the other demigods he was able to save.
Once again, he swallowed painfully. Only the demigods he managed to save.
But he moves on, thinking of other things.
The council calls for him again, and he is bound by several more chains to keep him from escaping.
He manages to bite one of the guard’s fingers. Satisfied, they try to give him a blow he easily ducks from. Smiling in his own poetic justice, he is dragged to another room.

Out the window, he sees the dark cruel light he has seen for a while.
The sun no longer shines in his world.
In the middle of the room, there is an arguement over him.
“The one who bids the highest on a broken hero!” one shouts.
“We should keep him and make him suffer by our own demands for entertainment.” one says loudly.
He is like a cow for slaughter- taken care of poorly, only for the amusement to watch him be tortured.
Beads of sweat break out on his skin.
The world he lives in is not safe for people like him.
They are hunted down by bounty hunters for sport, and Percy surrendered himself so his family could escape.

He escaped from this place almost two months ago- the needles, the wire cages...
The torture chambers.
The spikes coming through the wall, and the balls that rolled after you like in the Indiana Jones movie.
Your worst fears come to life.
“Give it to Tartarus.” one growls.
The others begin to nod in agreement, as if this is reasonable.
“Perseus Jackson,” the leader commands. “We have decided on a new punishment for you.”
Percy doesn’t move.
In the shadows behind him, a figure in black hides behind the maker’s thrones.
Percy locks eyes with him: Go.
The figure disappears in the shadows.

“Your new punishment is to be exiled to the center of Tartarus.” the all powerful being continues. “You will suffer worse punishment than we can ever give you.”
Percy swallows, not allowing them to show fear.
If Reyna and Hazel successfully managed to stall the others...
This was no mission of being heroic.
Quick in and out of the prison, Percy would have accomplished.
This was days ago.
Just a small off-set prison, but he was sure this was the place.
It had all been a trap.
Scattered among the burning remains of the empty prison, Percy distracted the bots and let his friends escape.
Reyna had to lead the others now.

Now Percy was taken to the lead prison, and he was meeting the last people on earth he would ever want to see again.
The same people who had caused him this pain in the first place.
It had all been for one reason- to make them pay.
Revenge.

“It has been decided.” the council spoke. “Perseus Jackson, you are hereby exiled to Tartarus, where you will be executed for our own entertainment.”
Percy gulped.
“And you will stay there, until you have learned from your mistakes.” a female voice spoke up. “And after you have learned, we shall take you back and execute you. Good day.”
The beings all flashed away from the room.
Percy lay on the floor.
A small figure in a robe came over from her fire, and knelt over the hero.

“Percy, you can’t do this.”
Percy smiled weakly at his friend’s disguise. “Piper, I told you to stay back at base.”
“Hestia won’t let me stay here forever.” Piper warned. “Either you come with me now or-”
Doors opened.
Piper vanished in a plume of smoke.

Something was latched around Percy’s head, and he couldn’t move his neck.
Thick shackles were attached to his arms and feet.
He didn’t even resist. He had no reason to.
Just as a portal opened up, he looked around one last time at the throne room.
He saw a flash of gold, and focused on the movement.
His eyes widened. The same person he had been looking for since she had disappeared.
But she wasn’t chained, she was watching him with a cold expression. He saw her standing next to the guards with a fierce, determined expression.
Betrayal.

He almost screamed out her name, when the cart was given a harsh shove, and he went flying into the portal.
He had just seen the person he had been looking so hard for, working for those who wanted him dead.
Blood boiled in his brain, seeming to make the ride to Tartarus much less enjoyable.
At the bottom, the cage cracked.
He leapt up, ready to attack.

A swarm of darkness encased his body, cutting off his oxygen.
“Hello, Perseus Jackson.”
Percy didn’t turn to look at the speaker.
The one girl he had searched for so long he would never see again. Dead or alive.
“Welcome to hell,” Tartarus spoke. “Although, according to my patrons, you’re already living it.”
Percy gulped.

“Now, to teach you a lesson.” the figure rubbed his hands together.
“One you will never forget.”
The room spun, and then Percy felt like he was dipped in the River Styx again.
Then it went black.

-------PART 2-----
Everything is Backwards
===================================

Chapter 2
My life is messed up. Really bad.
Percy

Percy woke up.
The first thing that happened was a man with loose blonde hair looked over his crib.
“He looks too weak.” he grunted.
“Nonsense,” a woman hugging his shoulder gasped. “He’s adorable!”
“Fine.” the man spat. He turned away for a second. “You said he was up for adoption?”
“Yes.” came another man’s voice. “As soon as you can take him.”
The woman grinned, and she hugged the large man. “Oh, thank you, thank you thank you!”
So this begins Percy’s incredibly suckish life.
This Percy is two years old. He doesn’t know or remember any of his friends.
He doesn’t remember how he got here.
Strong hands removed him from the crib.
“Can we take the crib?” the woman asked.
The man who was giving Percy away, was obviously just an orphan house owner. “Sure.” he said. “I got plenty in the back.”
Then Percy was moving, and he squirmed around.
Large hands placed him back in the crib of the back of a car.
Percy wiggled around, and for the first time he saw his hands.
They were small, and baby-like.
They flexed as he did.
Stunned by this, he started crying. Even though he had a 6 month old developed mind, he knew this wasn’t right.
“Shhh,” the woman said. “It’s okay, mama’s here.”
No, Percy thought. You are NOT my mama.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“Sweetie, it’s time to go to school.” his ‘mother’ shook him awake.
“I don’t want to go.” 5 year old Percy grumbled.
“It’s okay Percy,” his mother cooed. “I know you’re upset that your daddy left us, but we have to move on. Time to get up.”
His mother’s lips trembled. A few months ago, Percy’s ‘father’ had left one night and never came back.
“I don’t want to go.” Percy muttered.
His mother dragged him out of bed, roughly. “Yes you DO!” she screamed. “I can’t bring you to work, and you can’t stay home alone without burning the house down!”
Percy grumbled and put on his pants and a clean shirt.
His mother hadn’t been stable since his father left.
Her name was Glinda, and his father’s name had been Harold.
Percy was adopted- he knew that as a fact. But he never mentioned it to his parent’s because he knew they would lie and tell him their story.
But Percy knew.
At school, a boy a little older than him dumped hot sauce down Percy’s shirt, staining it.
When Percy got home, his mother forgot to pick him up.
He walked home alone in the rain, with no jacket, and without an adult.
It was almost two blocks.
When he got home, he found his mother holding hands with a tattooed walrus.
“Sweetie, this is Jaws.” His mother smiled in a sweet sticky grin. “He will be living with us and supporting us for the next few years.
Not surprising, this guys was named Jaws for a reason.
Percy was pretty sure a few times he went hungry because while his mother went to go clean the dishes, Jaws would grab his food and shove it down his throat before the 6 year old could even react.
Bitter years.
One day, on his tenth birthday, he went home.
A teen boy with crutches waited on the side of the road, watching Percy.
Percy stared back and opened the door.
Inside, the house looked like a tornado had swept through.
His mother looked up groggily from her chair, wielding a large whisky bottle.
“Hellooooo Percccccyyyy,” she slurred. “Yourr gonna havee to cleaan upp youurr mess...” she said, gesturing to the destroyed kitchen.
As if Percy had even been here.
“No.” Percy said, placing down his backpack.
He ran to his room, and grabbed his books and faced his mother.
She got up drunk, and walked over and slapped him across the face.
“Clean this up!” she yelled.
“No!” Percy shouted back. “I didn’t make this mess, and I won’t! I won’t! I won’t!”
She glared at him with cruel ice in her eyes.
From ten year old Percy’s mind, something triggered.
A vision of many cold stares like that, in a dark room.
Then it faded away, and all he could see was his mother’s angry face.
“You shall do what you are told!” she screeched at him. “Clean this up!”
“NO!” Percy shouted louder this time. “And by the way, YOU FORGOT TO WISH ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
Percy didn’t know his real birthday. All he knew was that it was sometime during the first few months of school.
Late August? September? He didn’t know.
The words struck his mother’s face like heavy blows.
“Percy,” she said weakly. “Can you forgive me?”
Percy reached the door handle.
“No.” he said. “If I’m not wanted, I don’t want to be here.”
The door swung open, and he slammed it shut behind him.
As he ran down the street in his jacket, his blue backpack swinging behind him and ignoring the fact his mother was screaming his name behind him.
The teen he had seen earlier was walking after him now, trotting in his crutches.
“HEY!” the boy yelled. “Wait up!”
Percy turned around- first mistake.
The boy caught up, panting. “Did you just run away?”
Percy nodded, looking up at the boy.
The boy smiled. “You’re gonna need somewhere to stay.” he had a familiar twinkle in his eyes that Percy couldn’t place.
“Do I know you?” he asked.
The boy frowned. “Nope, I’m pretty sure we just met.”
Percy nodded, and the boy put out his hand. “What’s your name?”
“Percy.” Percy said. “Percy nobody.”
“Okay,” the boy said. “Nice to meet you, Percy. My name’s Grover.”
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“Where are we going?” Percy asked as the strange crippled boy led him up a hill.
“Somewhere safe,” he replied.
Percy looked around, he didn’t see anything.
He blinked.
A whole camp appeared before his eyes, with a large cabin and lights filling up the room.
“What..What that-what-what?” Percy stammered.
The boy grinned. “LUKE!” he yelled over the hill. “THALIA! ANNABETH! CHIRON! Anybody home?”
A few faces appeared from the room, a girl with spiky black hair, and a tall tanned blonde boy, and a short blonde girl with curls ducked out curiously behind them.
“Hey Grover,” the girl with the black hair said. “Got a new camper?”
“Heck yeah! Percy, this is Luke,” he said pointing to the tall camper. “Thalia,” to the girl with spiky black hair. “and Annabeth.” The girl with the blonde curls waved half-heartedly.
Grover walked up the hill, and Percy followed.
As he passed, a moment he saw a faded image of a large pine tree at the top of the hill. Then it wasn’t there.
Percy frowned, and the blonde girl looked him over. “You a run away?”
“Yeah.” Percy’s voice felt dry. “I wanted out. My parents didn’t care.”
Luke raised an eyebrow, and there was just a tiny scar over his eye, but Percy had another strange flashback that this wasn’t right- the same boy, Luke, but older, and a larger scar.
“Parents?” he questioned. “Divorced and remarried?”
“My, uh, dad left when I was five.” Percy said, trying to get the strange from his mind of the old bitter blond boy. “My mom...well, I just left her.”
Thalia frowned, like this was odd. “It doesn’t matter,” she said glaring at Luke. “We welcome all demigods.”
Percy frowned at her. “Demigod?”
“Demi, being part of.” the small blonde girl interrupted. “God, as in the immortal all-powerful beings that control the world. Or,” she glanced at the taller blonde boy, Luke. “they can be called our parents.”
Percy stared at her like she had lost her marbles. “Yeah right.”
“Come on,” Thalia said, dragging him in. “Chiron can explain everything later.”
Inside, a man in a wheelchair had his back turned to them, reading something.
“I’ll be back later guys,” Grover said. “I’m gonna go get a coffee.”
Luke chuckled. “More like eat the styrofoam.”
Annabeth and Thalia laughed.
Then the man in the wheelchair turned around, smiling at all of them. “Is it my campers I hear?” he asked smiling.
“Percy,” Luke said. “This is Chiron, our head counselor/director uh, person.”
He said the last word person like he found that amusing.
His gaze turned to Percy. “Hello, who are you?”
“Percy.” Percy said meeting the man’s gaze. “Percy, and that’s it.”
For a minute, his vision shifted to see the same man in a wheelchair sitting in this same room, but he looked more anxious and older.
Something was wrong here.
Percy would soon figure that out, in his first night at his new home.
“Well then,” the man said, getting out of his wheelchair.
Percy backed up in alarm, as the wheelchair folded up into a size not thinkable, and instead there was a man smoothly grafted to the end of a horse.
“I can personally welcome you to camp.” the centaur Chiron smiled. “Percy, I welcome you to your new home, Camp Half-Blood.”

Chapter 3
See the bigger picture. It’s too small right now.
Percy

Luke led him to a run down cabin outside of the camp.
Percy was trying not to ask a whole bunch of questions about everything- Why did nymphs look like humans but were woodsy colors? What happened if you didn’t climb fast in the climbing wall? Would you die? Could a chariot race make you fall out of the chariot and get crushed? What’s a demigod? Why do you have a scar? Who’s my parent?
Questions bubbled in Percy’s mind while Luke showed him around camp.

“There,” he said pointing to a small arena like place. “Is the sword arena where we train campers to fight.”
Percy found none of this unusual, except for the nagging feeling in his head that this wasn’t right.
“You’ll probably be claimed at the campfire,” Luke said. “over there.”
Percy turned around, and saw a small location where they could probably have roasted marshmallows at some point, but it looked almost unused.
Luke’s smile faded. “Things have been stirring.” he said. “Evil things. Camp is no longer as safe as it used to be.”

He tucked a sword into his belt. “But, I’m not gonna hold a grudge. Only reason is because Thalia is here....” he trailed off. “Bad things could have happened if we didn’t make it to camp on time. We should be lucky Grover found us when he did.”
Percy didn’t think this was the case. A memory erupted again- Luke, older, harsher. From Percy’s memory, he got the feeling he didn’t like Luke from this vision. He was offering something to Thalia, who looked confused like she didn’t know what to do.Then it vanished as quickly as it came.

“Anyways,” Luke continued. “We’ll have to see who claims you. Most times campers don’t take very long. But your kinda young, but you’ll get claimed. Eventually.”
Percy kept feeling a strange mixture of deja vu, like he already had done this. “But, my parents aren’t gods.” Percy said. “My dad left when I was young, and I ran away from my mother. You make it sound like one of those uh, gods, are our parents.”
“That’s ‘cuz they are.” Luke replied. “My dad is Hermes.”
Percy stared at him, thinking ‘Yeah, I’m a unicorn.’

Just then, Thalia ran up. “Uh guys, problem.”
Luke turned to her, and in a flash he whipped out a sword. “What?”
“I...I don’t know....”
Luke dashed after Thalia, leaving him alone by the woods.
“Uh...hello?” Percy called.
He tried following them, but got lost. Soon he found himself by the beach, which comforted him.
He sat onshore, listening to the waves crash and recede.

He heard footsteps, and saw the blonde girl- Annabeth- come over to him. “You are gonna miss dinner.” she said.
Percy got up. “I’m not that hungry.”
She shrugged. “Suit yourself. Just don’t miss the campfire. That’s when you get claimed. Usually.”
Percy frowned. “What if I was already claimed?”
Annabeth turned to face him. “You what?”
“What if I am already claimed.” Percy asked.
He was shaking with excitement- he had that strange feeling of deja vu, he knew he was claimed.
But to who?
“Well,” Annabeth said carefully. “I find that very unlikely.”
Percy frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Well...who do you think is your parent?”
Percy thought a moment. “I don’t remember.”
Annabeth rolled her eyes. “How is that something easy to forget!?”
“Once again, I don’t remember.”
She just stared at him a moment, and then ran, kicking up sand from her feet.
Well, Percy thought dryly. That went well. He stood up slowly, and walked to where the campfire was.

He heard chattering and laughter from somewhere- probably everyone eating- and he sat down on an empty bench.
He thought back to what he could remember- his name was Percy. He had just run away.
For some reason, Percy was beginning to think this whole place was just some fantasy. He accepted what they told him so easily. Who was to say this was just his imagination?
“PERCY! PERCCEEEEE!” Luke called. “DUDE! Why you just sitting there?”
“Not hungry.” Percy grumbled.
Luke excused himself from his stable and trotted over to him. “Come on Percy, I know it’s a lot to take in, but you can’t skip dinner! The food here is to DIE for.”
From Luke’s happy-go-lucky smile, Percy shivered. Something wasn’t right here.
“No, I’m good.” Percy insisted. “Really.”
Luke shrugged. “Suit yourself then.”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

“So,” Percy said jogging to keep up with Luke after the campfire. “Where do I go?”
Luke smiled. “You can stay in my cabin, little dude.”
Luke ruffled his hair, and Percy grinned back, but he was thinking- Do that again and I’ll bite you.
Percy hadn’t been claimed, and Luke was trying to be nice and tell him he would probably get claimed when he was older. Nothing to worry about.
That wasn’t what bothered Percy, however.
What bothered him was his dreams that night.

And they only reinforced the idea that this was all fake. And that everything he had witnessed in his life had been a lie.

Chapter 4
The First Warning
Percy

PERCYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Percy’s eyes flew open, just as they had closed.
“Who said that?” he asked in the dark cabin.
Someone next to him went “SHHH!!”
Percy leaned back down and tucked himself in again.
He closed his eyes, about to drift into sleep.
PERCY! PERCY!!!!
His eyes flew open again. Someone next to him in the Hermes cabin snored.
Percy, disgruntled, sighed and fluffed up his pillow. Only his first day at his new home and he was already going crazy.
Percy! Percy, can you hear me!?
This time Percy kept his eyes closed, and let the clutches of sleep hold him captive.
The edges of his dreams focused, and he saw a kid about thirteen peering into a small scope.
“Percy! Oh my gods! You’re alive!” he said.
“What?” Percy asked, not recognizing the stranger. The boy frowned, his long silky black hair falling in front of his dark black eyes. He brushed it aside. “Percy, something wrong?”
Percy stared at him blankly.
Then he felt a memory come rushing back- “Nico, what are you doing here?” he snapped. “You are supposed to be SAFE so if you get caught in the prison, I swear I will have to burn the place down and wring your little neck.”
Nico gave him a wry smile. “You aren’t in the prison though.”
Percy stared at him, and he didn’t feel like ten years old anymore. Older...maybe sixteen. “Nico...what are you talking about?”
“I have my resources- according to the prison records, you were executed three days ago.”
Percy frowned. “Last I checked, I’m alive.”
Nico scowled. “If only you had listened to Piper- you would still be with us.”
“Hestia is our only ally right now Nico,” Percy reminded him. “If she is caught like all the others, we’ll be all alone.”
Nico scowl deepened, because he knew Percy was right. “How are the others?”
“Haven’t gotten back yet. Place is crawling with bots. Be a few more days before I make it back to the safe house. You just hang in there, once I get back I’ll inform the others, and we’ll launch a counter attack-”
“Nico,” Percy commanded sternly at the kid. “You are to do no such thing.”
“Come on!” Nico whined. “It will be quick and simpleeeeeee!”
“I don’t think so Nico,” Percy said quietly.
Nico frowned, and the connection became fuzzier. Nico swore. “Leo’s device can’t get through all the airwaves dude, you either tell me where you are or I’ll find you the hard way.”
“Nico, you will not. I forbid it.”
Nico smiled at him. “And who’s gonna be able to stop me?”
*****************************************************************
Then the connection cut off, and Percy woke up in a cold sweat. He also couldn’t remember any of the conversation he had just had in his dream.
He looked around. What am I trying to remember...? Something important. This place can’t be real.
He looked down at his ten year old body, feeling he should be older.
“Maybe I’m eleven now.” he grumbled to himself, and sitting back into his pillow.
One last message from someone he couldn’t remember who they were:
I am coming to find you.
***************************************************
“No, you duck under the attack, parry, and roll.” Luke instructed.
Percy tried the move again, and tripped over his large sword, and fell flat on his face. The sword impaled the blade into the ground a few inches from his face.
“Come on, Percy. You gotta learn how to fight if you want to live!” Luke snapped. Then he looked down. “Sorry, it’s just...you are so stubborn.”
Percy frowned. “I know.”
“One more time, then you can get some water.” Luke said, and raised his sword. “FIGHT!”
Percy raised the far-too-heavy sword above his head, and charged a Luke.
He made about five steps, and swiped at him. Luke easily parried it, and twisted the handle away from Percy’s hands.
Percy stumbled back, and landed on his tushie. “Ow.” he muttered.
Luke looked like he was trying not to face palm. “It’s okay little dude, let’s get some water and try again tomorrow.”
Percy walked over to the cooler, and poured a small glass. “I stink at everything.” he grumbled into his cup. Luke, unfortunately, heard him. “That’s not true, little dude. We’ll find something for you.”
Yeah, Percy thought sourly. And maybe you will start teaching a dance class.
He leaned back, and picked up the large sword and dropped it in the shed on the way to the pavilion for dinner. Maybe skipping dinner tonight wouldn’t be as fun as last night. Not that it was any fun in the first place.
On the way there, he passed the cabins.
Annabeth was walking from the other direction, and she soured her face at him. Percy kept walking, and then he turned around.
The cabins were lined up, but something felt wrong. Something was not right here either.
“Hey, Annabeth!” Percy called. He had never gotten the full tour yesterday because of the ‘problem’ Luke had to deal with. “What cabins are these?”
Annabeth turned around and pointed. “Athena. Demeter. Artemis...” she listed off a whole bunch of other cabins. “Zeus, and Hera.”
“What about the Poseidon cabin?” Percy asked her. She had been leading him around to the other cabins, so she was right next to him. “What?”
“The Poseidon cabin.” Percy repeated, feeling stupid at her blank stare. “The Greek god of the sea?”
Annabeth shook her head. “You feeling alright?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Percy, I hate to break it to you, but Poseidon doesn’t exist.”
Blank. Shock.
“Percy, you sure you’re okay?” Annabeth asked, concerned. “You look kinda pale.”
“Yeah.” Percy said, but his head was spinning.
He moaned and grabbed his hair and leaned against the Hermes cabin. “This is all wrong. This is so wrong.”
Annabeth frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“This is all wrong. So very wrong.” he groaned, sinking down onto the ground.
“Why?” she asked, her pale grey eyes staring him down.
“You don’t understand- Poseidon was my father...this is all wrong. I know he’s my father. And your telling me he doesn’t exist.”
Annabeth backed away. “O-k-kay. Maybe you're overreacting. Maybe you ate some magical mushrooms or something-”
“No, it’s not like that.” Percy groaned. “This is all fake. Everything. You’re not real. I’m not real. None of this is real. This is all just my imagination.”
Annabeth uncomfortably put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. “Hey, it’s okay. I know this all seems really messed up, and it’s not reality, but it is. And it sucks. So stop crying like a kid and become a big boy before I get Luke and tell him to strap you to a tree!” she snapped the last part.
Percy stopped. “But...My father is Poseidon...I have green eyes...black hair...” he rambled off some other things.
Annabeth gripped her dagger. “Percy....none of that is accurate.”
“Yes it is!” Percy yelled at her, leaping to his feet. She backed up, nervous.
“Here,” she said trembling. “You may not believe the truth. But you will when it looks you right in the eye.”
She passed over a small shiny object into his shaking hands, and he turned it over.
It was a small, simple mirror.
Instead of Percy Jackson staring back at Percy, and unfamiliar face frowned back at him.
To be honest, Percy had never really looked at himself in a mirror. What he saw shocked him.
Instead of a boy with black hair and green eyes, a boy with dark hazel brown eyes stared back at him, with matching light bronze hair.
That was the least straw- Percy’s eyes rolled to the back of his head, and he slipped into a dark unconsciousness.
He heard one thing before he forgot it all:
You should not be here.

Chapter 5
The Rest of Eternity
Percy

Percy felt like he was in a hole.
Without a ladder, a cell phone, or any way of getting out. He was trapped between a rock and a hard place. That was his first nightmare.
In his dreams, he got another vision.
He felt older, and stronger.
He saw a boy with dark black hair, looking pale and weak in a prison cell. With a shock, he realized it was himself. The real him.
“Tartarus,” he groaned. “You..will...never...break..me..”
He was tied to a stone table. There were chains wrapped around his ankles, wrists, and his waist. He was trembling, and everything felt like it was covered in ice.
“Maybe not,” a deep voice said from the shadows. Percy had the feeling it was bad- no, worse. It wasn’t bad..it felt almost evil.
“But, I can do my best.”
Then he gave an evil chuckle- like a rolling, barked, laugh. Percy cowered, and winced. Then it faded.
He was back at Camp- he was in a white cotton bed.
“Hey,” Luke was standing over him. “You alright? Annabeth said you passed out-”
“I’m fine.” Percy said bitterly. He took a quick glance over a mirror next to his bed.
Brown eyes. Brown hair. This was all wrong. Percy didn’t say anything, though. The dream he just had? Didn’t remember a drop of it. Nada.
It has always been like this, as far as Percy remembers.
Each night, his friends visit him, or he connects to his real body. Each day, he awakens, and forgets the whole thing.
The only time he is safe is when he is sleeping.
It has always been like this. But Percy doesn’t remember by the time he awakes.
************************************************************
Four years passed.
Percy celebrated his fourteenth birthday with his friends, Luke and Annabeth. Thalia had passed on two years ago in a Titan’s assault. Annabeth almost took the hit, and Thalia bravely stepped in her way.
She died in her friend’s arms.
It was a hard topic for all of them- especially Annabeth.
Luke had attempted to make Percy a surprise birthday cake- the result, a small explosion in the Hermes cabin.
Annabeth made a backup cake, so it was fine.
Percy leaned over, taking another bite of his cake. Luke was joking around, the small scar pretty much faded by now. Percy had never been claimed, which he could tell annoyed his friends. At the Gods. Apparently, they had hoped he would be claimed by now.
Percy didn’t mind. If they did claim him, he would be mad at them in the first place for handing him over to a orphanage. So maybe it was better off this way.
Percy’s brown hair was longer now, and it pretty much covered his eyes. He didn’t excel at any sport. He stunk at archery. He couldn’t spar for ten seconds. He couldn’t swim. Life sucked.
Luke and Annabeth had given up trying to guess his immortal parent- he couldn’t blame them. The only thing he saw himself as was a regular Hermes kid, except he couldn’t prank, and couldn’t pick-pocket people like the kids could normally do.
He felt like a nobody.
“So,” Annabeth said while they were sitting on the beach, happily eating their cake. “Percy, who are you gonna ask to the Fireworks Show?”
Percy gulped, and choked on his cake. Luke laughed at him, and swallowed his whole. “Come on, Percy. You forgot again, didn’t you.”
Percy was bright red. “Shut up.”
“What?” Annabeth asked, confused. Luke wiggled his eyebrows at Percy, while Percy thought about stuffing Luke’s head in a bowl of soup, and biting him.
“Percy was gonna ask-” Luke said, when Percy tackled him.
They rolled around, and Annabeth giggled onshore.
“Ow.” Luke complained. “Dude, warning next time.”
“That’s the point of a SURPRISE attack.” Percy pointed out.
Then, Percy got a tingling sensation in his spine. He looked around. Luke and Annabeth were walking towards the cabins, and noticed his hesitation. “What?” Annabeth said.
Percy responded by taking out his spear- he could aim pretty well, so he used it. Luke spun around, and had his sword out. Annabeth stood back to back with him, her dagger in her hand.
“Where?” Luke hissed.
“Woods.” Percy said, not knowing how he knew. “Get ready.”
A conch horn call- yells from the camp.
Chiron’s bellow- “WE ARE UNDER ATTACK! Archers, advance!”
Monsters came through the woods- Luke stabbed one through the head, and then rolled away.
Almost immediately, they were overwhelmed. A monster caught Luke by surprise, and held his sword to his throat. Luke started backing up, until he hit a tree.
Percy stabbed one in the stomach with his spear, and ducked as an arrow flew at his head.
He heard a scream, and saw Annabeth dangling upside down, her foot in a monster’s grasp.
Luke was already preoccupied with being disarmed, which left Percy.
Percy’s vision turned red, and he threw his spear.
First mistake: lost his only weapon.
It stabbed the monster, and it blew away like sand. Annabeth dropped to the ground, and moaned from there.
Another monster took its place, and charged at Percy, a long spear in his hand.
It came straight at Annabeth, as she shakily got up.
Percy made a split second decision, and raced towards her, and shoved her out of the way.
Second mistake: Forgot about the charging monster.
The spear went through him, and he fell to the ground. Spots danced in his eyes, as Annabeth got up and screamed a curse at the monster, and turned it to dust.
Reinforcements arrived. Percy gasped, as he felt something warm and slippery on his side.
Annabeth and Luke stood over him, and Percy knew this was it.
“Luke..” he said softly. “Thanks for...never giving up on me....”
It sounded like a raspy whisper.
Luke nodded, and his eyes looked misty. “You were always like my little bro.”
“What!?” Annabeth said. “No, we're gonna get a healer, you’ll-”
“Save it.” Percy coughed. “It’s too late. I’m sorry Annabeth....”
Annabeth looked dazed. “But...you and Thalia! No! I won’t let you-!”
“Shhh.” Percy said. “And you were wondering who I was going to take to the fireworks?”
Annabeth nodded, tears in her eyes.
“I was gonna ask you...” he said, closing his eyes.
Luke leaned his head up against a tree, and Annabeth took his hand. “I would have gladly gone with you, Brownie.”
Annabeth had an annoying nickname for him- brownie. Not because he had brown hair, but because he was in love with the dessert.
Percy nodded softly. “I’ll miss you guys...I’m sorry we didn’t have...more..time...”
“No!” Annabeth cried. “You won’t die on me!”
“I’m sorry..Annabeth...” Percy murmured. “Someday...build..something..remember..me...”
He didn’t speak again.
Percy felt his world go cold, and time seemed to speed up.
He woke up, chained to a rock.
He was covered in sweat, and his heart was racing. He looked down, and saw his bare stomach.
So that had been a dream-?
“No,” the voice of Tartarus boomed. “That was your reality. Altered, slightly.”
Percy ground his teeth. “This is my torture? Relive my life, over and over again?”
That seemed to amuse him. “Yes,” he said. “Each time it will get worse and worse. Mark my words.”
Percy gulped.
“Get ready for the next one,” Tartarus said. “It’s gonna be even more painful than the last.”
A large finger came out of the shadows, and connected with Percy’s forehead, as he slipped into another life.
