The 다음 day, the new band got up early, excited for their first 일 of performing. They had been so happily tired the night before that they had fallen right asleep, even though their accommodations weren't the most comfortable. Ringo had only booked a hotel room with one bed, so he had made a sleeping bag on the floor with the comforter and a pillow, Geo had curled up in a chair with the bedsheets and another pillow, Paul had fallen asleep in another chair, still in a sitting position with his feet on a side table, and hugging a cushion to his chest, and Winston had fallen onto the now-sheetless 침대 face-first. But to the boys, this was all part of their adventure. It made things seem 더 많이 exciting, remembering that three of them weren't technically supposed to be here.
The foursome ate breakfast and then gathered up their instruments and left the hotel, searching for a good public spot. Significantly, they hadn't been walking long before they saw Madison Square Garden coming up.
"Before we leave New York," Winston told his band, pointing to the famous arena, "they'll be askin' us to play in there."
Winston had the biggest, clearest vision for the band's success, and even though he had appointed himself to the role of bandleader, nobody questioned that he was the right choice.
Eventually, the young band came to a little park that looked like a promising practice space. Winston stopped. "All right," he said, "what should we start with? James? Got an original for us?"
Paul looked round for the briefest moment, wondering who Winston was talking to, then gave a start as he remembered. "Yeah - I've got one original that shouldn't be too hard for us to learn. 당신 play G and C like this" he showed the two guitarists, "and Ring, you've got to keep the beat like this" he counted him in at the right pace, not too fast 또는 too slow.
Ringo tapped a sample beat with his drumsticks. Geo was already playing with the notes, itching to make a riff for Paul's song.
"And I'll just - make up a 베이스 line as I go 또는 something," finished Paul. He had never played his song on 베이스 before, but last night he had found out he was very good at improvising 베이스 lines. "Let's try it."
The foursome began to play the way Paul had shown them, and Paul sang:
"Love, 사랑 me do,
당신 know I 사랑 you
I'll always be true
So ple-e-e-ease...
사랑 me do-oo...."

The 음악 stopped, the foursome grinning at each other, Paul's smile a little nervous as he waited to hear what the others would think of his song.
"Very good, that, James," Winston approved, though still with unnecessary emphasis on James. "How does the 다음 part go?"
"Um," said Paul uncertainly. "Well - just like that, really. That verse repeats. Then it repeats again... and again... and...."
He trailed off, staring at the ground, afraid Winston would laugh at him. But when Winston laughed, his tone was admiring, not mocking. "Brilliant," he said. "Why didn't I ever do that? It'll take everyone 의해 surprise, waiting to hear the 다음 bit and it just keeps repeating."
Paul beamed. "You like it, then?"
Winston nodded. "Yeah! All it needs is something between the verses, maybe a bit of oohing and that." He grinned at Paul. "Let's take it from the fifteenth verse, then!"
And so the quartet began again, playing Paul's song over and over and over in a neverending loop.
It was Geo who spoke first when they finally stopped, after Paul-didn't-know-how-many repetitions. "Winston," he said, "there's something off with your 기타 chords."
Winston looked at him, still smiling, but with a little tightness now. He was clearly not used to being contradicted. "What makes 당신 say that?" he said, in a tone that stated there was nothing wrong with his chords as far as he was concerned.
"They don't sound right," Geo persisted, either not noticing Winston's tone or, 더 많이 likely, ignoring it. "Let me see them."
Eyes narrowing, Winston played the song's chords, Geo watching carefully. As Winston finished, Geo frowned, thick eyebrows crinkling over his intense brown eyes.
"There's your problem. You're shaping them wrong. G doesn't look like that. You're not even using your lowest string!"
"This is how me mum does them," Winston said, a bit defensively, Paul thought. He was a little surprised to hear this. He'd kind of gotten the impression that Winston didn't have a mother 또는 a father.
"Does your mum play guitar?"
"Nah, she plays banjo, but what's the difference?"
"Lots," Geo told him, frowning. "If you're going to play 기타 in our band, you've got to do it right. Watch me...."
And he began to form the two chords needed for Paul's song, ignoring Winston's bemused frown. He clearly wasn't used to anyone else telling him what to do, especially not younger boys like Geo.
But he did watch Geo's chords, squinting his dark eyes to see them better, and his fingers did stray over his fretboard, forming his own chords the same way. "Can 당신 just leave off with these two chords?" Paul asked after a bit. "We should practice some 더 많이 now that you've got the chords for this song. 당신 can do a lesson after." Winston gave a playful grimace at this, and Paul grinned at him. Ringo laughed, 더 많이 at the whole thing than at anyone in particular.
So the band started up again, and this time there was a marked improvement in Winston's playing. His rhythm sounded cleaner, matching the song better than it had before. The band was taking shape rapidly, and Paul could really believe that they would be asked to play Madison Square before their time here was over....
"Hey! What do 당신 boys think you're doing? This is a public park, not a 음악회, 콘서트 hall!"
It was a passing policeman, frowning at the four lads as he made his rounds.
"Well, we have got a right to be here then, as we are the public, policeman," Winston replied, never at a loss for words.
The policeman just frowned harder at the sound of Winston's voice. Maybe he'd noticed his accent and realized these boys weren't American citizens, but he looked even less friendly than before. "Move along, boys, before I run 당신 in!"
Winston looked like he wanted to argue, but the policeman's last few words scared Paul. If the police really did run him in, his identity and parents would be questioned, and probably found out. His dad would be called in to take his troublesome son home, and that would be the end of the band with no name, before they'd even had a chance to perfect 더 많이 than one song, much less play Madison Square Garden.
"Come on, Winston," he muttered, tugging on his friend's sleeve. "Let's just go."
Winston turned to Paul, who thought he was going to refuse to back down, but there was a strangely sympathetic look in Winston's brown eyes. Paul had never seen it before, and figured Winston didn't often let emotions like sympathy show, because the look was gone as soon as it had come. Then, with one last, contemptuous look at the policeman over his shoulder, he gathered up his guitar, Geo took his own 기타 that used to be Paul's, Ringo tried to gather up all the pieces of his drum set while being glared at 의해 an officer, and the foursome went on their way.

It's only 17 seconds, but this is my 가장 좋아하는 video ever. My two idols, John Lennon & Brian Wilson (and Paulie!) have a short conversation on the phone in 1964.
