Note: Hi, everybody. Hope 당신 enjoy this short piece.
My 프렌즈 and I were at a pet store, trying to find a 초 cat for my stepsister, Mary Anne Spier’s birthday. My 프렌즈 and I run a baby-sitting sitting club called the Baby – sitters Club. I am the alternate officer of the BSC. That means I take over for whoever can’t make it. Today was Friday. During school that afternoon while Mary Anne was eating with her boyfriend, Logan Bruno, Kristy Thomas, our club president, came up with the idea we go shopping after school.
My name is Dawn Schafer. I’m thirteen years old and in the eighth grade at Stoneybrook Middle School. I am mostly from California where I was a native there. Mom, Jeff, my younger brother, and I moved here to Stoneybrook, Connecticut after she and Dad divorced. Jeff was unhappy here, so he moved back 집 to California where he’d be happier.
“Would Mary Anne like this one?” Claudia Kishi, our vice – president asked.
“Which one is that?” Mallory Pike, one of our junior officers asked.
Mallory and her best friend, Jessica Ramsey (Jessi for short) have daytime jobs. That means they are too young to baby – sit at night. Our vice – president, Claudia, has her own private telephone number so we use her number for clients to call us.
Even if we’re not on a meeting 일 또는 whatever, she takes the calls. Claudia is into art and is good at it. Her family is Japanese – American. Claudia’s long black hair is beautiful. She’ll do anything to her hair and clothes. Claudia’s outfits are always nice – looking and somewhat fancy. Claudia has this older sister Janine. Janine is a bit on the smart side (she’s a genius!) and Janine is only sixteen and a sophomore at Stoneybrook High School and does college work instead.
While Janine gets straight As, Claudia is the average type of student – As, Bs, and Cs. Her spelling is terrible. She’d find snacks for every meeting. She is a 정크 음식 addict that her parents disapprove. They also disapprove of 읽기 Nancy Drew mysteries and would like it if she’d read 책 that are 더 많이 adult. Today Claudia’s long black hair had a few barrettes on it, a 담홍색, 핑크 one, purple one, green, and all the other 색깔 당신 could think of.
When Claudia is a 정크 음식 addict, her parents also would be happier if she ate healthier foods. What Claudia does since her parents disapprove of 정크 음식 and Nancy Drew, she goes ahead and secretly hides them in her bedroom and come up with hiding places so they would never know she disobeyed them. Her 셔츠 for today looked like it was brand – new: some 담홍색, 핑크 that matched her barrette, yellow sun in the background. The sun looked like it was warming the rainy 일 spots. It also held a rainbow. Her shoes matched the shirt.
Mallory and Jessica are alike and opposite in several ways: Mallory wears glasses and braces, had curly red hair. She dreams of being a published writer one 일 so she writes as often as she could. She and Jessi 사랑 말 and 읽기 about them. They hope to have one someday. While the rest of us, Jessi is African – American. She wants to be a famous dancer one of these days.
Mallory comes from a huge family: eight children. She’s the oldest of eight. Her family usually hires two baby – sitters. She has brothers that are triplets: Byron, Adam and Jordan, another brother, Nicky, along with younger siblings: Claire (5), Margo (7) who gets carsick, Vanessa, who hopes to be a poet one 일 since all she does is speak in rhyme and that’s it. Some of the siblings can be energetic. The 단창, 파이크 family has to share bedrooms since there aren’t any rooms for each child to have her 또는 his own privacy. They also have a hamster.
Jessi comes from a smaller family: one of each sibling. Jessi has a younger sister, Becca, which is short for Rebecca. Her baby brother is Squirt. Squirt is the youngest of the three. She and Mallory wish to wear flashy clothes like Claudia and Stacey’s, but their parents want them to wait until they’re older. Like Mallory, Jessi’s family also owns a hamster.
Stacey McGill is our club treasurer. She collects our dues every Monday. 당신 should see how fast she calculates our dues. She never uses a calculator. She does it all in her head in less than one minute. She’s originally from New York City. She and her mom moved here after her parents divorced. When they first moved here to Stoneybrook a 년 이전 when we were in the seventh grade, her father got transferred here. Recently he was transferred back to New York City.
He had always been a workaholic. Stacey visits him every weekend and during the summer. Unlike Claudia, Stacey can’t 가입하기 us in the 정크 음식 Claudia and us so Claudia buys chips and other health foods for me and Stacey. Stacey is diabetic so her body can’t control sugar. I eat the health 음식 with Stacey. I had never been a big 팬 of 정크 food. I mainly prefer health 음식 than 정크 food. I never eat red meat. My mom, Sharon is the same way as I am. Stacey and Claudia have the same taste of fashion and they are forever buying new clothes and would go shopping for clothes together occasionally.
Kristy, who’s our club president is 더 많이 outgoing and bossy. Her best friend, Mary Anne, who’s our secretary, is also like Mallory and Jessi in a way. Kristy is bossy and outgoing while Mary Anne is on the shy and sensitive side. Mary Anne is an only child and motherless. Her mother died at childbirth and her father took it hard while Mary Anne stayed with her grandmother in Iowa until Mr. Spier recovered from the death.
Mr. Spier can be strict. Last year, Mary Anne was wearing pigtails and dresses. One 일 she talked him into letting her wear clothes that are 더 많이 adult. Somehow he gave in and let her what she wanted. He was strict about boys and telephone calls. She only had to use the telephone for homework emergencies. He had this one rule that she stay off the telephone at nine PM on school nights.
Kristy, like Mallory, also came from a large family: three brothers. When her mom remarried last 년 to a wealthy billionaire, Kristy had some new additions to the family: her grandmother, Nannie, who was in her seventies moved in as a live – in grandmother. Nannie did a big part in the family. She also had a stepsister named Karen. Karen Brewer and her younger brother, Andrew came from Kristy’s stepfather, Watson Brewer’s 이전 marriage.
Karen, like Mallory also wears glasses. Karen is on the blonde side while blue – eyed. Karen, like Mallory and Kristy, is also the oldest sibling. Karen is seven while Andrew is in preschool. Karen and Andrew live with their mother during the school days and on Fridays, they ride across town to get to Watson’s mansion.
Kristy has three brothers that are from their life with their mother. Kristy’s dad up and left the family when Kristy was young so she doesn’t remember much of him. Kristy used to live in the same neighborhood as Claudia until Kristy’s mother remarried and now they live across town. Therefore, Kristy has to catch a ride from her older brother, Charlie. He and Sam go to Stoneybrook High with Claudia’s sister, Janine.
Charlie drives Kristy in hid old car named the Clunk Bucket. Therefore, he drives Kristy back and forth the meetings every Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. That’s how many times a week our club meets, running from 5:30 – 6:00 PM. Kristy’s 초 oldest brother, Sam moved in the bunch at Watson’s mansion along with their younger brother, David Michael. David Michael is one 년 older than Karen – eight. They also have a dog and an adopted girl, whose Chinese, Emily Michelle. She’s only two and adorable.
Mary Anne is the first of us to have a boyfriend. Logan Bruno, and a neighbor of Kristy’s, are our associate members. Logan moved here from Louisville, Kentucky while Jessi and her family moved from New Jersey. Logan is the only boy in our club. He looks a lot like Mary Anne’s 가장 좋아하는 movie star, Cam Geary. No wonder my stepsister has a crush on Logan. It’s true he’s good – looking. Like Jessi, Logan came from a family of three.
Logan is the oldest in his family. One younger brother, Hunter, who is allergic to everything, and a younger sister Kerry. This family has a Southern accent. Logan and Kristy’s neighbor, Shannon Kilbourne take over our places when we’re busy. Like the seven of us, Logan and Shannon are also in the eighth grade. Logan joins us at Stoneybrook Middle School in eighth grade.
Shannon is a bit different: she goes to a private school. Logan is on the football team. When Kristy first moved into Watson’s mansion, Kristy and Shannon met for the first time and Kristy used to think Shannon was a bit on the snobby type of person and when they got along better, Kristy invited her to 가입하기 the club and Shannon accepted.
Mary Anne and Kristy both have brown hair – Kristy’s is long and she sometimes adds a ponytail occasionally. Mary Anne’s brown hair is on the short side. Both girls are good students and both lived in the same neighborhood until Mary Anne’s father remarried again and now Claudia’s the only one left. The neat thing about Mom and Mr. Spier is that they dated in high school!
Now they’re both married to each other. Even Mary Anne’s gray tabby cat Tigger, joined the family when Mary Anne and Mr. Spier moved into our one – hundred – 년 – old 외양간, 헛간 house. I think it’s neat. It came along with secret passages and squeaky floors and bedrooms. Mary Anne and I tried sharing a room, but it never did work out as we’d hoped.
We ended up having separate rooms because I like to enjoy listening to 음악 while Mary Anne likes studying in peace. She finds studying without any distractions easier than me. My stepsister is the secretary. She schedules all of our jobs. Her handwriting is very readable. That’s the BSC for you. Now back to the pet store.
Stacey was glancing in the same glass window Mallory was.
“That one is adorable. Think she’ll like this one?”
We all walked to the small glass window where Stacey and Mallory were. We all wanted to glance in the window as our 프렌즈 did. It wasn’t easy since there wasn’t much room for all six of us. Mallory and Stacey gave us some room so we all could see the cat.
We thought the cat was precious. He looked a lot like Tigger. We thought buying my stepsister a 초 cat so Tigger wouldn’t be so lonely like he used to. The glass window looked like it needed to be clean but we all were able to see the cat.
We looked at the price on the cat. It was the right amount for us to pay with our dues. At the last lunch get together, Stacey told us we had a hundred and ten dollars and ninety cents. We were happy to see the price was affordable, thanks to our math genius. The cat was about forty dollars. We didn’t want to buy an expensive cat that was ninety dollars 또는 more. The kitten looked like he was almost two months old.
The cat looked like he was sleeping. We all walked up to the cash register. The cash register stood not too far from the entrance of the store. Customers were browsing at the cats, birds and dogs. We thought buying a kitten would be easy. We did the talking to the college student behind the register. We looked in Claudia and Stacey’s direction. Another thing they had in common was boys.
The cashier looked like he was either in his early 또는 late twenties so it told us girls he was starting college 또는 was on his 초 year. We could see Claudia and Stacey’s eyes pop out but we offered not to say a word to either girl. He was normal weight, average height, hazel eyes and purple hair. My guess he was into dying hair as if some girls were.
“May I help you?” he asked professionally.
His nametag told us his name was Josh.
“Yes. We’d like to buy a cat for our friend’s birthday that is nearing,” Kristy said in her businesslike voice.
“What kind of cat were 당신 thinking for your friend?” Josh asked us.
We led him to the kitten’s cage. Tigger was a kitten when Mary Anne got him, but now he’s a bit older.
We were going to have our part this coming Friday since Mary Anne’s birthday was this Saturday. We planned on inviting Logan to the party as long as he wasn’t busy with his sports activities. Josh opened the window with a key. The kitten began to purr. Josh put the kitten into my arms. He seemed to like me, all right.
“He likes you, Dawn,” Jessi told me.
“I can tell,” I said.
“We’ll take him,” Kristy told Josh.
Right.”
We went to the cash register one 더 많이 time. Josh handed us a royal blue blanket for the cat and once again, the cat was in my arms. We thought this would be the best gift Mary Anne had this year. While waiting for the bus to pick us up, we thought the best idea was to keep the cat at Stacey’s house until our meeting party. If the cat was at my 외양간, 헛간 house, the surprise party gift was making noises.
“Meow, meow,” the kitten meowed loudly.
“You’re a cute little thing, aren’t you? 당신 will be making 프렌즈 with our other cat. He’s pretty friendly,” I told the purring animal.
We watched as Kristy went to the nearest pay phone. We’d actually changed our mind about having the party today. Kristy came back t us shortly. She’d called Logan to inform him the party would be scheduled today.
She told us Logan would be a few 분 late for the party. Kristy told him a cat would be the gift from all of us. We didn’t bother asking Shannon to 가입하기 us. We figured she would’ve been busy anyways. We decided to hide this precious thing in Claud’s closet. After leaving from the pet store, we went directly to Claudia’s. Just yesterday, Claudia decorated her room with birthday decorations for Mary Anne.
We’ve held many birthday parties in Claudia’s room so this was why she became aware of decorating ahead of time.
“Your room looks great, Claudia,” Jessi complimented.
“Thanks, Jessi. Some I have done on my own.”
The happy birthday, Mary Anne! Banner looked like Claudia’s work, all right. The banner was in pink, blue and purple. All the letters on the banner alternated from purple to 담홍색, 핑크 to blue. Claudia even added balloons that matched the banner – a couple cat faces.
“This banner is cute, Claud. She’ll 사랑 it.”
“Thanks, Stace.”
We all heard Mary Anne’s footsteps coming. She was ten 분 early.
We’d hid in Claudia’s closet. We lit the candles on the double 초콜릿 cake. The cake was another thing we bought with the dues. We were silent in the closet and the 다음 minute, Mary Anne walked in. Kristy told us earlier today there actually was no meeting because of my stepsister’s birthday. Mary Anne walked in Claudia’s now neatly bedroom.
She turned the switch on. She found only the balloons, banner, and not us. We peeked through the peephole of the closet. We watched as my stepsister admire the decorations. We opened the closet door quietly. Mallory and Claudia brought out the cake while I came out with the kitten.
“SURPRISE!” we all exclaimed.
Mary Anne’s eyes popped widely in surprise as tears came down her cheeks.
“You did all this for me? 당신 guys are the greatest.”
We didn’t want my stepsister to know Logan was coming. We all gave each other a look in the other direction so Mary Anne couldn’t see what our eyes were saying.
After our silent conversation, we began to sing.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Mary Anne, happy birthday to you,” we sang.
We heard someone’s footsteps coming closer. We watched as the door opened. Logan arrived. Mary Anne was even 더 많이 surprised her boyfriend made time to come and 가입하기 us.
“Did I miss anything?” he asked.
“We’re just starting, Logan. The only thing 당신 missed was the song,” Mallory told him.
We watched as Mary Anne made a wish. After blowing five candles, Mary Anne did notice my hands were bundled up with a blanket.
“Dawn had our gift that’s from all of us,” Jessi told her.
“Thanks, guys. It sure is to have celebrated our meeting on my birthday!” she exclaimed.
“Dawn, give Mary Anne the blanket,” Stacey told me.
I handed the cat over to Mary Anne. Her eyes grew even wider than they did earlier.
“Is he for me?” she asked.
“Of course. We bought him almost an 시간 ago,” Kristy told her.
“He’s adorable! He even looks just like Tigger!” she replied in excitement.
“What are 당신 going to call him?” Claudia asked.
We watched as Mary Anne was thinking.
“I think I’ll call him Tabby.”
“Good choice,” I said as my stepsister continued looking at the kitten.
“How old is Tabby?” Mary Anne asked, holding the purring animal.
“Almost two months,” Stacey answered.
“Thanks, guys. This is one birthday I’ll ever forget.”

“How old is Tabby?” Mary Anne asked, holding the purring animal.
“Almost two months,” Stacey answered.
“Thanks, guys. This is one birthday I’ll ever forget.”
