CW renewed TV shows for 2015: \'Jane the Virgin,\' \'The Flash,\' \'Arrow,\' \'Supernatural,\' \'The Originals,\' \'Vampire Diaries,\' and \'Reign\'
The CW made sure that all its fans will be happy in the coming days, as the network decided to renew almost all of their scripted shows for the next season.
During the network\'s scheduled press platform during the winter press tour of the Television Critics Association, it announced that eight of its shows will be renewed next season. The list includes: the recent recipient of a Golden Globe award, "Jane the Virgin," which is up for its second season; "The Flash" for its second season; "Arrow" for its fourth season; "Supernatural" for its eleventh season; "Reign" for its third season; "The Originals" for its third season; as well as "The Vampire Diaries" for its seventh season.
The CW president Mark Pedowitz explained the network\'s decision to renew most of its series as early as now.
"Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience. By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season\'s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups," Pedowitz said.
The network also showed the trailer for its two new series titled "iZombie" and "The Messengers" during the event.
"iZombie" is a loose adaptation of DC Comics\' original series, starring Rose McIver as Olivia "Liv" Moore. The show will be aired on March 17. Meanwhile, "The Messengers" is a sci-fi action mystery drama starring Shantel VanSanten, Jon Fletcher, Sofia Black-D\'Elia, and JD Pardo. The series is scheduled to premiere on April 10.
On the other hand, the fate of two other shows from the network is still in limbo. "Hart of Dixie" may or may not be cancelled, but according to the network president, "We\'re going to look at the ratings. We\'ll get an opportunity to see how it plays with Jane the Virgin. If it ends, [this season is] a great series finale; if it doesn\'t end, it\'s a great season finale. But we\'re not committed one way or another."
"Beauty and the Beast," in the meantime, is still on hiatus but it will allegedly return by late May or early June.
