Sorry for not sharing your opinions, but I have to vent this. Before I start, though, I'm not saying the pairing isn't cute. It's 'meh' in my opinion. But as a person who has been through both relationship and rejection, I feel the need to speak my mind and explain why I HATE everything about it aside for the pairing itself.
I'm going to start 의해 talking about the nature of their relationship first, and then the circumstances of their 이전 break-ups followed 의해 how they got together.
This couple lacks any sort of depth and chemistry. I just finished watching the entire series, and I found precisely 3 things that the two have in common: Genre taste, fashion sense, and hatred of Courtney. (For the record, I and my girlfriend stopped counting at 72.) Have 당신 ever wondered why they've only acted like a couple in 2 shots and don't interact in a couple-like manner otherwise? It's because the writers have no idea what to do with them.
Differences, on the other hand... Gwen loves the environment, while Duncan would rather carve graffiti into trees. Gwen is friendly, and gentle to those she likes, while Duncan is tough and mean to everyone, except apparently Gwen (more on this later). Gwen is 더 많이 of a softie with a dark side, while Duncan is a tough guy with a very hidden soft side. Gwen likes artistic guys (which Duncan is anything but), while Duncan likes violent girls (which Gwen can only be when seriously riled). Gwen keeps all her promises, while Duncan wouldn't hesitate to break them. Along with a few others. (My girlfriend and I gave up trying to find ours at 3.)
Trent and Gwen had their differences, but they complemented each other beautifully. I think THEY were the cutest couple.
Now, I'm not saying Gwen and Duncan should hate each other. No, what I'm saying is that they should be friends. They have all the requirements needed to hang out every so often. But they simply have too many conflicting aspects to build an actual, lasting relationship. 당신 may defend it 의해 saying that Gwen could change Duncan, but 당신 don't really believe that, do you? Not after what happened with Courtney.
Which brings me to my 다음 point: Break-ups. Duncan and Courtney had countless fights throughout TDI and TDA, which they not only got over quickly, but even grew closer through. Even as late as the BONUS episode of TDA, the last meaningful thing Duncan and Courtney even did was make out.
In the end, the two didn't even rightly break up! Duncan didn't talk to her about breaking up, Courtney didn't even consider the possibility of them breaking up! Both up until Gwen and Duncan were caught smooching in the confessionals.
Trent and Gwen were the most magnetic couple of any in TDI, and tied for my personal 가장 좋아하는 with Bridgette and Geoff. They had differences, but they complemented each other so perfectly. At first I thought it seemed a bit forced and shallow, myself, but as the season progressed, I grew to 사랑 them. They were both artistic and kind, and Trent's feelings were so strong!
But then, through a combination of first-relationship-syndrome and bad-writing in TDA, Trent began a downward spiral. Fearing that Gwen had a thing for Duncan was 100% out of character for Trent, and his subsequent overreactions as well. Trent was an annoying idiot in that season, but I don't blame him. I blame the writers. Gwen, on the other hand, acted rather rationally, but ended the relationship way too easily. If their personalities hadn't been drastically and badly altered, none of it would have happened.
Now for the hook-up.
Duncan showed absolutely NO interest in Gwen beyond friendship until the very 초 he kissed her. He showed no interest in breaking up with Courtney until that second, too. Yes, he was gone for the whole season up to that point, but even after he came back, there was plenty of time!
Gwen, on the other hand, showed a sudden interest in Duncan starting with the TDA Bonus episode. It had no build-up to it, despite the multitude of chances the writers had for it. While Gwen and Trent fell for each other at first sight, Gwen and Duncan knew each other for a full year. Plenty of time to at least show signs of liking one another! But then all of a sudden, Gwen gets tons of 팬 mail, and the only excuse she can come up with is "Duncan's taken"? Ladies and gentlement, poor 글쓰기 at its finest! For both a writer and romantic like myself, both Duncan and Gwen's sides of the story showed clear and distinct signs (and I mean the flashy neon signs, the kind that decorate casinos) of bad, bad writing. It was like 읽기 a fanfic written 의해 an 11 year-old (that's when I started fanfic-writing, so I once again speak from experience).
Back to Courtney for a moment. She and Duncan fought dozens of times. Why, all of a sudden, did Duncan decide to end things? Their relationship was BASED ENTIRELY on fighting! And they hadn't even had any fights up to that point!
Unfortunately, relationships like this one DO actually happen in the world today. The reality of it, though, is that they last 3 months. Tops. With so little to go on, any relationship would crumble, and there's a number of ways it could happen. Gwen being protective of trees that Duncan is carving, for example. 또는 Gwen worrying about Duncan's ways and trying to change him, only to have Duncan dump her because she's 'becoming like Courtney' 또는 something.
There's only two ways this impossible relationship could end: heartbreak, 또는 mutual friendship.
If 당신 think they're cute together, who am I to argue? Their looks certainly complement each other. My issue with it, however, is that for them to get together required the total, drastic warping of 3 of my 상단, 맨 위로 5 가장 좋아하는 characters' personalities, the shallowness of their relationship, and the bad 글쓰기 that went into both aspects.
All this having been said, I don't think it's a stretch to say that this is my least 가장 좋아하는 couple in all seasons of Total Drama.
I honestly fear that keeping them in a relationship will force Gwen's (my #1 가장 좋아하는 character) personality to change so drastically that she won't resemble at all the girl we've come to love. If that happens, I'm going to stop watching the series as a whole. The characters are what I 사랑 most about the series, and if the writers are going to change them over the shallow preference of the fanbase, then it's not worth watching.
