I was in the generation before My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. In fact I still remember a bit about the older versions that I have the “pleasure” of seeing due to five sisters; one specific called the Princess Pramanod (spelling error), where the character Spike, was a proper advisor to a Princess, who was revealed to be Twilight Sparkle, and the past RainbowDash being a very proper English adult who said “Darling” all the time.
To say the least, the show was extremely cringe-worth in my opinion. And not being able to forget it leads to quite a few groans each time I do recall it.
So later on I heard that there was a new My Little 조랑말 show, though I hadn’t given it any thought. I had seen commercials for a new Care Bears as well, so I simply thought it was the same deal. Because of my lack of knowledge, I did not take precautions about when I involved their content.
I put a derpy-looking RainbowDash picture on a 투표 I was helping my sister make, and I watched a “Funniest Pinkie Pie Moments” video on Youtube. I would also count the StarScream Vs. RainbowDash Death Battle, but I watched that because it was Death Battle, not My Little Pony.
The show was extremely entertaining. I found the 애니메이션 to be very well done, and the humor was making me laugh. I showed my sisters it, and they started watching the show. I however simply left it at that, glancing over at it for maybe five 초 here and there.
So with all of this you’d think I’m a brony right? … No I’m not. And I can see why being a brony would be a bad call.
First, bronies say that the show is not just for girls, and is like every other cartoon.
~Most of the main characters are girls.
~The main protagonist is female.
~The show expresses feminine pop culture 더 많이 than male pop culture.
~It’s color scheme goes with that of purple, pink, and other versions of 색깔 that would seem female.
(This is not the same as Kim Possible people)
~Separately, I have been told that while the first season was girly, they changed it after that to make it for boys and adults. Saying that 당신 did it does not mean it happened. If it still has teenage talking cartoon ponies, who are mostly girls, and make all of the above happen, to say nothing of the 제목 being “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic”, it is not for an older audience.
This goes all the way back to the original. The original show was for girls, and so were its future versions leading up to the most recent one. If MLP:FIM was a completely different franchise from the start, changing after season one 또는 not, it might be up for debate, but the fact that it IS a My Little 조랑말 reboot, it will not EVER change the fact that it is based at its core on a show for young girls.
Second, I’ve also been told that the show teaches lessons that all ages should know.
That’s true… but I could say the same for shows ranging from Barney to Avatar: The Last Airbender to Gilmore Girls. All shows at some point 또는 another are going to express a moral lesson of some sort, even if not based around that idea. Just because this show does the same doesn’t make it special.
Strike that, it does make it special, in the sense that it’s trying to teach a forty year-old about peace with lessons that are meant for ten year-olds. Age groups need different moral lessons. 당신 can’t talk about sexual purity, 또는 terrorism, in My Little 조랑말 for two reasons.
1. It IS for children, not adults, so they will either be scarred or…
2. If it’s for all ages, children won’t understand the 더 많이 complex lessons, while adults will roll their eyes at the kid-friendly ones.
If 당신 need to learn about morality, 당신 need to read a good book, and Atheist 또는 not, Bibles can even help (what a shock *sarcasm*). 당신 can watch something that won’t try to sound so simple that someone half your age will understand and 당신 won’t.
Third, Bronies have told me that it’s better because its 더 많이 successful than 바비 인형 fanbases across genders.
Let me explain that more. People who watch those 바비 인형 영화 are usually girls. People who watch Polly Pocket shows 또는 영화 are usually girls. But the unusual is what led to bronies.
This is something that we all have, temptation and curiosity. We all feel it, I’ve felt it. If you’re a guy, an adult, 또는 even a grown woman, and 당신 see the show, 당신 will possibly (most likely if male), think at first “This is dumb”, but somehow feel a sort of attraction. Stimulus; it’s something interesting, it’s there so 당신 have the tempting feeling to watch it.
There are many boys who do this, but the difference between them and bronies is that the creator of FIM supported it. When the bronies began, instead of going “Um no, boys shouldn’t watch this.” She made a 음악 video going “GO BRONIES!” This was the first brony defense; saying that “Hey the creators agree so it must be fine to watch”, and soon 더 많이 bronies came out of their closets. But wait, why were they in closets to begin with?
Because they felt ashamed, and they should (I do not mean that in offense.). If 당신 feel ashamed of watching something that is clearly not for your gender, that’s your conscious, and 당신 should listen. But that’s based on your moral view, and since the creator condones it, suddenly your morals change and it’s “Yippie!” time. I understand there’s a lot of cases where it’s pressure and fear of other people, and that isn’t good, but even those contribute in cases.
Forth, the bronies are better because they’re not like other banbases, and they are morally sound.
Is that so? Well then I guess I’ll just be on my w- CUPCAKES. THAT, HORRID, PUTRED, DEMONIC, FANFICTION. (And then five hundred people just looked it up… I beg 당신 not to. Seriously, I am begging 당신 not to.)
Wanna know how I specifically found out about that… “gem”? My brony friend came up, said “Hey I know you’re not big on My Little Pony, but I’d appreciate it if you’d read this fanfiction.” I will not name who this was, but this was someone who I considered level-headed, non-violent, and a nice guy.
So why did he send me that fanfiction? That… 컵케익 fanfiction? Because NO, BRONIES ARE NOT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FANS.
Rule 34 states that if it exists there will be porn of it, and that’s the excuse, that yeah there’s bad stuff about it but it’s minor compared to the oth- no it isn’t. I see 조랑말 porn whether I don’t want to 또는 REALLY don’t want to (Youtube and 구글 I thought we were friends. 의해 the way, I used to like the word pie, what have 당신 done?!) I see My Little 조랑말 EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE, and a lot of it is NOT morally sound like the show “wants” the 팬 to be.
It’s about peace, so why do I keep seeing bronies in the army? It’s about friendship, so why do people who claim to be bronies make flashes about everyone dying and that… shed… (Remember what I said about curiosity? The cat didn’t die. My eyes however…)
I know a brony (some probably know who but I won’t say), who while saying that he keeps to the moral code of My Little 조랑말 etc., not only says that if someone is a jerk to his friends, he’ll be a jerk back, which not only is going against “Do not repay evil with evil”, but has very little respect for people’s personal 우주 또는 respect for anyone’s anything really, and if he does, he’ll still act like he’s always in the right.
This is one of many I’ve met. I’m not trying to say that bronies are worse than the average fanbase (though that’s possible), when it comes to morals, but they are not better. They are the same. All fanbases do this, and My Little 조랑말 does to, even 더 많이 possibly since I CAN’T GET AWAY FROM ALL THIS SPAM 베이컨 AND CUPCA-
Every single time someone tells me “Just look at this” “or that” “or that” “and you’ll change your mind” my mind is not changed. It is the same.
“My name is Pinkie Pie, and I am here to say.” Recent (or was recent when I heard that on a Skyrim video I was fooled into watching) 음악 video. The name Pinkie Pie should be enough to tell 당신 “Okay I’m done, g’bye.”
I don’t blame the show itself (unless it’s actually shown support in the actual episodes of these bronies). It’s fun, it’s funny, the 애니메이션 is great, the characters are great, and it has my 가장 좋아하는 voice actress Tara Strong in it, as well as Q from 별, 스타 trek: 다음 Generation, one of my 가장 좋아하는 shows ever.
BUT it is still not for anyone about twelve (MAX) and anyone who is not female.
Here’s my little chart.
~There are shows for kids: Barney, TellaTubbies
~There are shows for kids that are either Timeless, 또는 Nostalgic: Sesame St., Clifford
~There are shows that are cute and fun to watch with younger siblings: Word Girl, Peep In the Big Wide World (but still aren’t something 당신 should watch as your own personal show.)
~There are ageless (while still for kids and teens) shows that are balanced and make references for all ages: Kim Possible, Spectacular Spider-man
~there are shows that ARE ageless completely: Animaniacs (Mainly pinkie and the brain), Adventures in Odyssey, The Pond (last two are both TV and Audio. Referring to audio, yes it counts, their still shows.)
~There are adult shows: Just… CW… all of it
My little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a Cute show that is for kids. And grown men should not watch it.
Still remember the beginning of all this, where I talked about my experience with My Little Pony? Let me add on a bit.
My sisters have most of the 바비 인형 Movies, and I’ve seen at least ten of them. I’ve seen most of the TinkerBell movies, and I was aware of Lisa Frank in my childhood. But here’s the thing.
I was very young when watching the 바비 인형 movies, and didn’t really catch on to what was going on. (Though I will say that I do think the first five 또는 so were actually good movies, and Tim 카레 playing a 쥐 king makes me chuckle. And oh how the mighty have fallen.)
The TinkerBell 영화 are 피터 팬 Spin-offs, and family 영화 to an extent, that I watched with family, though I did feel they were not my gender area anymore and stopped after a while.
Lisa Frank is the same with Barbie.
I say all this because YES, I DO UNDERSTAND HOW BRONIES FEEL AND THINK. I HAVE FIVE SISTERS, ONE BROTHER, I’VE BEEN EXPOSED TO AN UNHEALTHY AMOUNT OF FEMININITY FROM YOUNG AGE TO NOW, AND I WON’T EVEN GO INTO HOW I ACTED AT A YOUNGER AGE.
My FIFTH POINT, That we just don’t understand. Yes, I do. I really do. And even if what I express as understand is wrong for SOME bronies, if 당신 say another reason chances are I might understand that one as well.
I get it, it’s like an addiction, 당신 like it, 당신 don’t want to stop it, it’s something 당신 in a way grew up with, but it needs to end. It won’t make your life better.
I can’t control anyone’s actions, and bronies that read this will most-likely react negatively, but no matter how many retorts are flown about, at some point, this will all die down, and we’ll see which policy was correct.
Thanks for reading, and if 당신 disagree lay off the insults please. No cussing either.
Eat Pie and Prosper.
