Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
You Wanna Bet Your Freedom, Walter? Scorpion Season 1 Episode 4 – Shorthanded
We open this week with the team watching footage of a man. Toby thinks he’s guilty (of something), and Happy bets a hundred. Gallo orders other officers to pick the guy up, and Happy says Toby didn’t win. Toby tries to argue the point, but Sly takes Happy’s side. Walter asks Gallo if they can finally get some publicity, and Gallo denies them. Walter lets him know they took a private case, and Gallo pulls him aside.
Gallo is upset Walter and Scorpion are taking side jobs. Gallo says they’re not ready, but Walter says they work with, not for, the government, and they can take outside jobs. Walter tells Toby he can’t go (he’s a gambling addict), and Toby is very upset about it. Sly says he’ll stay, and Walter says no. Paige convinces Walter they’re all anxious about the trip and tells him they are all going.
In Vegas, Toby can’t wait to begin gambling. Walter bets Toby he won’t make a wager. If Toby makes a bet, Walter gets all of Walter’s paycheck from the gig, but if Toby wins, Toby gets Walter’s paycheck. They meet Renee Connelly, the manager of the casino they are working for. She gives them numbers Toby and Sylvester are impressed with, and asks them to figure out why they are losing money at tables.
Renee sets the team up with a suite, and while they wait they have a private cabana. The guys are drinking, and Walter asks Paige to help them. Paige turns around and has a large drink in her own hand, saying she’s single and will never be back. In the suite, everyone is excited except for Walter. He’s here to work.
Down of the casino floor, Happy is ripping up the carpet to place pressure pads under the carpet. It’s supposed to help them find out if someone is moving normally or not. In the security manager’s office, Walter, Toby and Sly watch several tables. Walter suggests one of the dealers is the reason why they are losing money. The dealer is called in, and Walter says they’re losing money because the dealer has small hands. Walter suggests the casino fire him, and they do, despite the dealer’s protests.
Paige points out that Walter’s been extremely insensitive lately, but he just says they were hired to solve the problem (which they did) and fix the security system. He is insistent the team act like professionals. The security manager is impressed, and Happy wants to gamble a bit. Walter tells her she needs to remove the pressure pads, and Paige tells Walter to let his team have fun, which he reluctantly agrees to.
Act Cool, Guys – The Place Is Just Getting Robbed
Walter notices two men in baseball hats acting differently. He analyzes their movements and realizes they’re about to rob the casino. He tells his team to be cool. The men rob the casino, and just as they are about to shoot Paige, Happy pushes her out of the way. A detective talks to Walter and tells them the gun men have not been spotted on the security footage leaving. Detective Rake tells Walter it’s very suspicious that the place was robbed just after Walter and his team replaced the security system.
Walter suggests they track the heat pads, and the trail leads to a storage room. A security guard tells Ronny, the security manager, they were able to isolate something on the security microphones. He plays it back and we hear Walter telling his team to be cool, a robbery’s about to go down. Things are looking worse and worse for Walter. The detective accuses Walter of being involved in the robbery.
Detective Rake says he’s going to get a warrant, and Walter tells him they don’t need a warrant and invites them into their suite. Paige asks Walter if they should call Gallo, and he says they are not to call him under any circumstances. They find money in Walter’s bag, and of course the serial numbers match up to the missing money. Walter again denies his involvement, and Detective Rake arrests Walter.
At Walter’s hearing, Paige again asks to call Gallo, and Walter again stubbornly says no. He has a plan. He tells the judge the constitution says he has a right to a trial of his peers, and since he has an IQ of 197, they would have to find 12 people in Clark County with an IQ of 197 or above. Walter knows there are not 12 people in Clark County with that high of an IQ, and the judge sets Walter’s bail at $500,000. She considers his IQ a flight risk, and Walter is whisked away to jail. Walter yells at Toby that the bet is off and to win his bail money.
The team checks into a seedy hotel, and Happy takes over. They need a plan, and Toby winning the bail money won’t do. Sly says they only have a couple of hours until the courthouse closes, and then Walter will have to spend the entire weekend in jail. The longer they wait, the harder it will be to find the evidence to clear his name.
Paige asks Toby if he can win the money to bail Walter out. Toby and Sly prepare to gamble as much as they can as quickly as they can. Happy and Paige are going to try to look at the footage.
In booking, Walter tells the officer he’s innocent, and then explains why one guy is not innocent. The officer decides he’s going to have to put Walter in the drunk tank.
Happy and Paige manage to watch the footage of the suite. Detective Rake decides they’re all in on it, and if they turn on Walter, he’ll get the DA to go easy on them. Otherwise, he’ll have to go after them all. Happy notices the angle of the window is wrong, and shows Rake a photo she took of Paige in their suite. She points out that the camera was on another floor, and Rake says he’s going to have to look into it.
As Happy and Paige leave the station, Paige notices there are records of the Crimson’s (the hotel they were working at) expansion. She thinks Renee’s dad was probably spread thin financially, and thinks it could be a motive. Happy asks for copies of all the paperwork. Toby and Sylvester are working hard to earn Walter’s bail money. They are on a roll.
Walter gets put in the drunk tank, and inside is the dealer he got fired. He tries to ask for a different cell, but the guard’s not buying it.
Sylvester and Toby have $250,000 to bail Walter out. Toby’s kryptonite in the poker room and no one will go near him. Sly can make a bet, but it will be too late to get Walter out. Toby decides he can double at the roulette wheel. Paige and Happy find Sly just as Toby leaves, and they show him info that it’s possible the robbery was an insurance scam.
Paige asks where Toby is, and they find him at the Roulette wheel. He’s reading the dealer, and Paige convinces him to leave. At the last second he places all their money on the table.
In the jail cell, the dealer wakes up and sees Walter. Just as he’s about to punch Walter, the guard comes in and tells him his lawyer is there to see him. Toby is sitting at the table waiting for Walter. Walter states they’re not able to get him out. Toby tells him they lost all the money at the Roulette wheel, and Walter is disgusted with Toby. The two are disappointed in each other, and Walter leaves the room.
In the hotel room, Paige steps up because the “brainiacs” can’t work together to fix the problem. Paige wants to prove Bob Connelly was in the red and that he had Walter framed. She wants the team to hack into Walter’s security software, but Walter is the only one who can do it. Sylvester thinks there’s another way, but he’ll have to get into the casino for it to work.
In the jail, the dealer is about to choke Walter when Walter begins snapping around his head. This causes Ronny to be very dizzy. Walter offers to evaluate Ronny’s skills and set him on a better career path.
On a roof opposite of the Crimson Casino, Happy and the team set up. She’s setting up a zip line that goes through the casino’s blind spot, and she zip lines over to the Crimson. Toby nervously zips down, and Happy reminds him not to swing his legs too much. He and Happy break into the casino to get Sly what he needs.
Inside the jail, Walter has come up with a solution and marketing plan for Ronny. Ronny asks why Walter’s in jail, and Walter explains his predicament. Ronny tells Walter he used to want to be a magician, and tells him about a magician that used to work at the Crimson, disappear, and end up on the strip. Walter figures that how the thieves got away, and Ronny tells him the stage was in the storage room.
Walter needs to get the info to his team and rigs up a small chlorine bomb-like thing to unlock the jail (it’s an old 80s version of a jail cell). The chlorine fumes work the pins in the tumbler, and Walter breaks out of jail.
Happy and Toby are crawling through the vents. Toby falls through the roof, and Sylvester tells them through the ear pieces security is on to them. Toby valiantly tells Happy to go and he’ll distract the security guards. Happy puts in the jump drive they need, and Sly initiates hacking in. A guard makes Sly move his van, but he doesn’t drive. Happy notices the signal has broken, and Sly tells her he’s moving the van.
Walter runs by the truck but backs up when he sees Sly driving. He makes Sylvester move over and he takes over the driving. Happy tells Sly the signal’s back, and she hears Walter thank her. Happy is trapped in the security office and she hears voices. Just as she thinks she going to be caught, the ceiling opens and a rope drops. Paige pokes her head out and tells Happy that since she almost took a bullet for her, Paige could do the zip line for Happy. Toby gets caught in the casino.
Sly tells Happy to call Toby and she almost reaches for her phone. She says no, because his phone could give him away. Renee decides to let him go so there won’t be more bad PR for the casino. Walter, Happy, Sylvester, and Paige are looking at the floor plans and key card swipes. They find Renee was the one who swiped into the incriminating area. Toby is in the back of the car with Renee, and he tells her that when the real robbers are caught he’ll feel bad. She smiles and tells Toby it’s not going to happen, then rolls down the window to the driver seat and a thug turns around and points a gun at him.
Toby tells her he doesn’t understand why she would rob her own casino, and she tells him he doesn’t know anything about her. He gives her the facts about herself, and he hits a nerve when he said she grew up there. Her plan is to take the money they’ve stolen and build their own casino. She tells him to send a text to Paige with some coordinates.
The crew shows up to pick Toby up. The thug makes everyone get out of the car and makes Toby start digging a hole. When Walter gets out of the car, Renee realizes there’s something wrong. Just then, a helicopter flies over their heads and they are surrounded by law enforcement.
Gallo shows up and bails everyone out. Walter figured it out from Toby’s text. Detective Rake admits Renee’s been laundering money for years. Gallo offers to take Happy, Paige, and Sly home, but makes Walter and Toby walk to a bus stop four miles away. Toby tells Walter all he wanted to do was show Walter he was worth the effort, and Walter admits Toby was right from their argument before. The two make up, and Toby decides to win their airfare.
