Basically stories that have really no action, you're just supposed to sit back and enjoy the journey. The vivid scenery. The kind of stuff that evokes emotion. But there isn't any fighting or real plot. For example there was this kid in my fiction writing class sometime ago who literally just wrote about a group of people traveling through a canyon at night. Nothing particularly crazy happened, he opted to talk about how the narrator viewed the stars overhead and the desert sand and such.

Do you think that this kind of story works?

@Zanhar Sounds like it could totally work! I would love to read a story about some people just having an awesome road trip, seeing amazing sights and having amazing, or maybe even sad, things happen to them. And it would be better if the point of view of the story helped you imagine yourself being on that trip with those people.

Unless the beautiful imagery serves some profound, deep purpose, then no ;)

One of my absolute favourite books- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern- is a bit like this. There's a plot to it, but it's slow paced and not all too interesting. The vivid imagery and beautiful atmosphere were wonderful to read, though. It was as if the author wasn't aiming to write a story, but instead create a series of beautiful scenes to enjoy. I could easily read it over and over again and not get too sick of it.

I suppose this sort of thing is a bit niche, however, and if someone doesn't like long descriptions of everything in the room, I could see why they wouldn't like this sort of thing much.
But I myself am of the opinion that not all stories need strong plots/characters like many reviewers and critics seem to unanimously agree. Not every story serves the same purpose, and imagery has its own way of telling a story. It has its own stories to tell, even. It would be a shame not to showcase that every once in a while.

I could definitely see this working since I have quite the Wanderlust too. Something like that could inspire in many ways. Nature has its own stories to tell and I find them pretty fascinating !!!!

Karoii-chan picked They're alright:
Descriptive writing, on its own, is a very magical genre of writing. Highlighting simple details of what makes an otherwise ordinary scene look beautiful is something that attracts me.

However, I would definitely prefer stories that have action, good characters and a nice plot ALONG with beautiful imagery.

I love the concept of them more often than the actual execution sometimes. Visually stunning movies for example are always appealing to me, but occasionally they can be too boring that not even the visuals can make me like it.
