I saw them on TV being compared, and my whole family and I were like 'that's ridiculous'. One Direction doesn't have band members that can all play real instruments, and all use their real voices without autotune. The Beatles have better lyrics, and they played REAL instruments and didn't use autotune! Comparing the two is basically an insult.

It depends how they're being compared. Musically? Or as in popularity? I doubt their musical styles are being compared. It's more likely they're comparing the level of their popularity. The Beatles practically created the 'teen craze' that we now associate with bands like One Direction. However, it certainly remains to be seen whether or not One Direction will continue to be popular decades from now the way the Beatles are.

Why does everyone on this site tend to hate on mainstream things? One direction is actually an awesome band but I must say comparing them is like comparing Naruto to GBZ they're two different shows two different bands they sang different songs. They'e very different. I don't think they'e comparing them in the way they sang and what they do. It's more of how much success they've made compared to the Beatles.
One direction is a wonderful band lets not judge them because they're so popular, get to know them first.

^It's a matter of opinions, really. I, myself, think that One Direction is a horrible and ludicrous band, but I'm not going to say anything to those who like them.

I do think that they aren't compared because of their music styles, which are obviously different, 100%, but because of their success and particular fan bases, but I still don't think 1D deserves to be mentioned, along with the Beatles. :\

I don't care for either band even though my Mom was in The Beatles generation she never got the hype for them. There are some aspects about both of them that are the same and more that aren't but I kinda get why they compare them.

if they were being compared musically, then no! but i guess they had a similar fanbase and they do act like the modern beatles, but other than that, they aren't similar... also some members of one direction do play instruments, i'm not sure if they play them on their tracks though?

When a Beatles song gets stuck in my head, I don't freak out like I do with One Direction.

Not that 1D are untalented, if you objectively look at videos of them singing live you can see they have talent (don't tell me they can't sing, The Beatles singing is not much better than the 1D singing let's be honest), but 1D are a pop band and The Beatles are a rock band. 1D do not write their songs while The Beatles did. The only thing they have in common is that they're from the same country.

lol first the ones being compared to the Beatles were Jonas Brothers and now One Direction??? even Jonas Brothers had more "excuse" to be compared because they played guitar etc... but if people make it about popularity I think it's even more ridiculous to compare because then every band and musician with lots of success like Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus could be compared to Beatles, nothing alike.

Any boy band being compared to one of the most legendary rock bands in history is completely refrickidiculous. Face it, there are a lot of dumbasses in the media who say the newest boy bands are quote "Bigger than the Beatles/Jesus/etc." and they'll keep saying that to help them sell their perfumes that smell like a dead ameboid's backside to girls who do nothing but sit on benches in their favorite mall all quack-o-blitzing day on their phones who think they're freaking goddesses, draining the souls out of anyone smart enough to tell she's a freaking b*tch! Damn, that's a load off my chest. :3
