Why are humans so quick to judge sad poems, when most of the time they cheer on happy 또는 romantic poems?

Honestly, in my literature class, everyone is so quick to judge a poet's depression and his/her work to express it. It's poetry, it's there to be written, and to express the wide variety of emotions that lay deep within one's insides. I just don't understand?
