It sounds like he might be a bit confused on what he feels 또는 wants. My first thought was maybe he was shy. But, shy people don't normally come out and express the feeling verbally. Maybe he was trying to get a response from you, to see how 당신 feel? I think the only way to find out for certain would be to ask him.
