Neal was a decent enough dad once he knew Henry existed, but he didn't really make time for him. David is great with Henry, but being his grandfather I think makes him more protective and less 'cool', so although he has his moments, I don't think he totally connects with Henry always. Hook however cares so much for Henry, and always makes time for him if he can. He teaches Henry to navigate, hangs out with him on his ship, offers to help with Henry getting Violet to like him, and you can see on his face how much he utterly adores him. In Heroes and Villains he risks his life for Emma and Henry, and the fact that the first thing he does when he comes back, after having just DIED, is to check on Henry shows just how much Henry means to him. I think his times with Henry always feel like father/ son moments.

Neal would have been a great father but sadly he didn't know about Henry until it was too late.

Well, Neal died as a hero. He had a tough life with Rumpel as a father. He grew up alone. They both experienced Neverland... I can see similarities... (But Hook? Really Hook?)

Neal did die a hero, and I really liked him, but that doesn't automatically make him a good father figure. And why not Hook? Hook loves Henry like his own son.

Neal isn't a father figure. He is his father. And a really good one..anyone but Hook.

^ Sorry but I beg to differ with your reasoning here @Fieryrubes!

Don't get me wrong but in my book being someone's birth parent doesn't automatically or necessarily make them a good parental figure and in this case doesn't make Neal a good father figure just because he is Henry's biological father.
That is something that has to be earned through actions & time and unfortunately with Neal we will never know. (Although I honestly believe that he would make a good one if he had more time with Henry.)
For me if anyone from the names listed here deserves such a title that is by far David.
Even Rumplestiltskin & (my belovedNOT) Robin Hood could in some degree claim that role for Henry BUT absolutely not Hook! (Here we seem to agree @Fieryrubes)

Hook is a bad influence who has repeatedly & recklessly put Henry's life in danger in the pursuit of his own impulses. He doesn't hesitate to corrupt & manipulate Henry, a peson who let's not forget is still a child. If it wasn't for Emma I highly doubt Hook would even notice Henry's existence whatsoever! To quote Will Scarlet "Befriending the son to get in with the mum? Yep, no one will ever see through that."

I don't believe that Hook is just using Henry, you see the care he has for him, it's obvious in his eyes. Yes, he started getting to know Henry because of Emma, but is that implictly wrong? He wanted to be involved with her family because he loved her, that's not a bad thing, it shows he knows what's important. And I'm sorry, but Neal didn't put Henry's life in danger? His fiance kidnapped Henry and took him to Neverland!! I'm not saying Neal was a bad father, but he never got the opportunity to prove himself. Just because he's Henry's biological father, doesn't mean he's been the best father figure to him.

I think Neal is the best father figure for Henry because he is his father which means he is most likely to understand him than any of the other men on this list. He didn't get to have his father there for him growing up and he really seemed intent on doing everything he could to be there for Henry once he found out about him. (Even though that meant most likely ruining the new romantic relationship that he had at the time yet he was willing to sacrifice that for a chance to be a father.) Not only did Neal do everything he can to try to spend time establishing a connection with his son but once he was taken from him, he did everything he could to find and save him. He crossed realms, made deals with thieves and faced many old threats just to find his son. His courage and persistency to get to his own son the way his father never did for him just cant be overlooked by me. The best thing a parent can do is to be a better parent than their own were/give your child a better childhood and life than you had and Neal made sure he did everything he could to try and make that happen.

Unfortunately Neal wasn't in Henry's life for long enough to really be a big father figure, due to his not knowing then being separated again in Going Home then Neal's death.
