We know Jacob as a soul of this island. And in the last episode of season 5, we saw him and knew a lot of things about him. It was really long-awaited information. But I want to talk not about him, but about the man who was his enemy. We can see him talking to Jacob in the beginning of the last episode. From their conversation we can understand that this man (everyone calls him Anti-Locke) wants Jacob to die. And in the end of ‘The Incident’ he gets what he always wanted. He used Locke and Ben to do it. And I think that he IS a black smoke, a monster, and all phantoms presented in this show were black smoke’s transformations.
1) Alex told Ben that he has to obey Locke. It was very favorable to Anti-Locke, because he was in “Locke’s skin”, and he wanted Ben to kill Jacob. And besides when Ben was talking to Alex, Locke disappeared. He said that he is going to find some rope to pull Ben out.
2) Before dying Shannon saw Walt. Actually Walt was a reason of her death. And if I am right, Walt was just another transformation of the monster. Anti-Locke wanted Shannon to die, because she wanted to kill Locke, cause she thought that Locke was the reason of her brother’s death. And the black smoke knew that Locke will be useful for him, that’s why he preserved Locke in every possible way.
3) In the 3rd season in the “The Man Behind the Curtain” episode little Ben saw his mother. He wanted to run to her but she stopped him, because there was a barrier. He could die. We can say that she saved his life. And of course Anti-Locke had to save Ben’s life, cause he will use him to kill Jacob.
