Me before you is the only one I saw and even though it was touching and emotional, I think there's a stance in the movie that's a bit problematic.
I think I'd love the Shallows, but I still have to watch it. And perhaps the 5th wave too.

Enjoyed the love story but I don't like the message the movie promotes :)

I assume I know what you're talking about -avoiding being too descriptive for those who haven't yet seen it- but I didn't perceive it as them really advocating so much as saying, "sometimes you come to a point where you feel like you have no other options, and if you reach that point - and you've tried, you've tried your hardest - shouldn't you have the right to determine your path?

I think the fact that his parents fought against it so hard, Lou fought against it... none of his loved ones just accepted anything, even in the end it was extremely difficult for Lou to be there!

I respect if you guys feel differently, but personally I think *in certain circumstances* everyone should have that right to choose.

^Though I understand the critics the movie got about what you're saying, it's more the fact the movie didn't explore the male character enough imo that was problematic, because in the end, he seems to serve as a device for the female character. I haven't read the book so idk if it's a 1rst person narrator, but in the movie, the female character was just more important than the rest, which then - with an issue such as the one in the movie - what he stands for/represents seems to be brushed off for the sake of the love story. I'm not saying it's done on purpose or that the movie is bad per-se, it's just disturbing in terms of characterization when it comes to him. Like you said "it was hard for Lou", sure it's normal since she's a big part of the movie etc, but it felt like everything is measured by how Lou's feeling you know what I mean? (And if I understand correctly, even one horrible thing she goes through the book is erased in the movie, so what's the point of minimize her role in the story as well?)

See, this is why I'm glad I don't just completely say I know what people are thinking!

I hadn't thought of it that way - and I didn't read the book either, so idk the differences in the book vs movie! I think the book is solely her pov but I'm not 100% sure!
