I just thought I would point out some of the differences between the movie and the book, not to criticize the movie, but to give a clearer picture of the story to those who haven't read the book.
1st. The Thenardiers:
The Thenardiers are quite different in the book. In the movie they are greedy and a bit goofy. In the book they are greedy but very serious and quite cruel. They also have five children, not the assumed one, and Gavroche is one of them. Marius is also constantly trying to repay Thenardier for saving his father at the battle of Waterloo, although Marius ends up causing Thenardiers' imprisonment
2nd. Marius:
As already said, Marius had ties to the Thenardiers. In the book, he was introduced the the 프렌즈 of the ABC (Enjolras ect.) but ends up leaving them because of a difference in opinion. He remains on friendly terms but never intends to 가입하기 a revolution. He falls in 사랑 with Cosette over the course of several months and Eponine does show him where she lives after her father is arrested for trying to rob and kill Jean Valjean. When Cosette moves, however, Eponine convinces Marius to 가입하기 the revolution (which had already started) hoping that they both would die and he would belong to no one but her. Marius does not actually 가입하기 the revolt until the part where he threatens to blow up the barricade.
3rd, Wedding:
Jean Valjean does not tell Marius he is a felon until the 일 AFTER the wedding. They aren't married until 6 months after the whole incident with the barricades. Jean Valjean is then slowly rejected 의해 Marius as he suspects that he killed Javert and 스톨, 훔친 money from M. Madeleine.
4th. Death
It isn't until several months after the wedding that Marius finds out from Thenardier that Valjean didn't kill Javert, didn't rob the Mayor (because he was the Mayor) and saved his own life. He then gives Thenardier enough money to go to America, and takes Cosette to Valjeans 집 (not the Convent) right before he dies. He then gives them the candlesticks and dies.
I hope this didn't sound critical, I 사랑 the movie but I just thought it would be helpful for people not familiar with the book to have a slightly clearer picture.
Thanks :)
