AFTER 15 years of sashaying down the 통로, 활주로 perfecting her blue-steel stare, it's all over for Megan Gale.
At age 32, Gale has given up the competitive catwalk business to focus on her budding film career.
"It has been at the back of my mind for a couple of years," said Gale, who has spent the past seven years treading the boards for David Jones.
"Even though I still enjoy it and I 사랑 it, I kind of decided that it is inevitable -- I just have to step off at some point.
"Rather step off while 당신 are on a high and everything is good, where I am in a good place with it, rather than flogging a dead horse, still up there, close to 40 and people asking why I am still doing it."
Gale has finally confirmed she has been cast as Wonder Woman in George Miller's upcoming blockbuster, Justice League Of America.
"I still can't believe it," she said. "I have been infatuated with Wonder Woman since I was a teenager."
She will continue in her role as brand ambassador for David Jones, but her final catwalk will take place in Melbourne on February 27, after she launches the retailer's Winter 2008 Collection at a 통로, 활주로 show in Sydney on February 12.
"It is very emotional for me," she said.
"Catwalk is the first thing I ever did and probably the aspect I enjoy the most, but I think there is a time when 당신 have to bite the bullet and step away from it and in my gut it feels like now is the right time. There will be tears, though."
Most 모델 work the 통로, 활주로 from about the age of 16 through to the mid-20s, so Gale has lasted longer than most.
But she is quick to point out that some of the world's best-known 통로, 활주로 and fashion 모델 are aged well into their 30s and 40s. Naomi Campbell is 37 years old, Heidi Klum is aged 34 and Linda Evangelista is 42.
"It just depends on the model and what level 당신 get to," she explained.
"It's really an individual decision. Now, there's always a new girl of the season."
